Completed a bench using this decking at the weekend and I'm happy with how it turned out, however getting it to look good was alot harder than I thought, I bought 13 1.8m lengths and 13 4.8 meter lengths, out of this I got 4 straight lengths, the rest we bowed which made it extremely difficult to install straight. I am not sure if this is a result of the product or the spaghetti Junction storage idea at my local store.

Better now its oiled

Used this product for a few jobs now and the result I get with the oiled boards is better than I used to get in the old days. It always looks better when its finished and now I do the oiling for my clients when ive finished the deck and they dont have to wait another few weeks for the painter to come back. Not every board is perfectly straight but thats just what you get with any timber I get the same with spotted gum. If your good at what you do you know how to straighten them out. You can make your own tool and use a clamp problem solved and clients are happy.

Extremely poor quality wood.

I purchased over 1,000m. At least 80% was so badly bowed that it was either incredibly difficult to work with or completely scrap. I complained to the Whakatane trade department, who said it was the very best quality Bunnings could supply and that if I returned it, they would refuse to supply me with further wood. If you have to buy it, I strongly suggest that you personally inspect every plank.

Not Good in the Rain
12 March 2023

Not a good ad for Feast Watson. Deck looked good for a week until it rained. All the stain leeched out and ran down on to a newly tiled area, staining the new grey tiles. Had to bleach the tiles with hydrogen peroxide and now have to re-oil and seal the new deck already (with a different brand product.)

Oiled Incorrectly
9 January 2022

With Merbau, the tannins should be removed from the timber prior to oiling it, otherwise the owner/purchaser of the timber has to deal with red/brown tannins all over pavers or concrete etc. there is a great step to remove the tannins using Intergrain UltraPrep tannin and oil remover, but this also removes the pre-oiling that has been completed. This would be a far better product if the customer was thought of and the tannins were removed from the timber prior to pre-oiling.Timber preparation is one of the most important steps and the supplier of this product clearly isn’t looking to gain 5 stars on their product.

Pre oiled and still cheaper than not oiled product sold elsewhere, very happy!
12 January 2023

Good quality, was cheaper than non oiled prices I got elsewhere. The top coat went on easy and the finish on these wide boards is beautiful.

Pre-oil….Good idea Bunnings, great value and no stains!
17 August 2022

Really good idea to pre-oil. The trade manager explained that it was to offer a base line coat to the under side of the deck to prevent excessive water absorption. Makes sense.. just needed a top coat and didn’t cost any more than no oiled. Looks great!

Terrible oil quality
12 February 2023

Rather unhappy with the pre-oil quality. I was told by the Bunnings staff that the pre-oil meant that all I would need to do was a deck wash and then 2 coats of feast & watson oil.I ordered 40m2 of this decking and when I opened the pack that was delivered to site, so many of them were black with excessive tannin bleed through the whole pack. I'm a licensed carpenter so I understand tannin bleed but rather disappointed once again with Bunnings for a misleading product. I am now going to have to use tannin remover before coating again.

Worst product , would not recommend this, unless you want a headache.
18 May 2023

Our carpenter just laid this product, worst thing ever. The tannin has wrecked our aggregate concrete, I have spent hours trying to clean it with various products with no success.I am angry with the carpenter as I didn’t want pre oiled merbau timber because of the reviews, and here we are.I actually rang Feast Watson to complain about the product, and all he could say was to remove the tannin off the deck, how is that going to fix my concrete. So if it causes so many issues, why don’t they remove the tannin???And give us cleaning products……Should have used ecko deck….., you pay a bit more, but get a better result. My husband and the carpenter will Never hear the end of this….
