This DeWalt 20V MAX 8” brushless pruning chainsaw is great! I have DeWalt batteries and chargers, so bought the tool only, and am using 4A batteries with it. I’d heard complaints of bad oil leakage on the larger, more conventional-looking 10 and 12” Dewalt battery chain saws (from YouTube videos) so was a little leery about h his one. Not to worry, the oil tank on this one is completely different from those models and does not have the mold flashing problems that those saws had. I filled it with oil, used it enough to be sure the oiler was working, then set it on a paper towel for two days. No leaks, cuts well, plenty of power and the stop on the tip allows easy cuts with the top of the chain. Very happy.

Good solid DeWalt product

Love the DeWalt 20V Pruning Saw. I works beautifully and makes life much easier! It does, however, have two issues.1. It require that the oil be drained after use and before storing, which is a bit of a nuisance.2. I haven't used mine in about 4 months. I have charged the battery, but it isn't starting. It makes a click sound. The battery has a fresh charge. I removed the Sprocket cover and cleaned the sawdust that had collected inside. Am attempting to troubleshoot, but the manual doesn't address this issue. It was purchased in June 2023.Outside of that, it is worth having around.

Good value for light duty use.

OK value. Well balanced and easy to use. The safety lock button for the on-off switch is awkward to use but may be designed that way to force the user to hold the saw with both hands which I recommend! The position of the safety button also forces the user to place their left hand inside the kickback protection, also a good idea. Better instructions would help users understand how to safely use the saw. Power is adequate. Battery life is adequate with a 5 AH battery. Chain/bar lubrication system needs to be improved. It either provides too much or too little oil. The oil outlet easily plugs with sawdust and the chain runs dry. The assembly quality of DeWalt tools has declined. A little grease on each made the saw easier, and safer, to use. Also, the chain idler at the tip of the bar has no way to lubricate it. An oil or grease hole would make the bar last much longer! Great Little Saw

Bought this saw to compliment my larger gas Stihl, plus I have other Dewalt 20v tools. Use it to cut up the smaller 2" to 4" thick branches that fall from storms, these branches can be up to 10ft long. It cuts great and battery lasts a surprising long time. I just cut 3" thick branches into 14" logs, total of 3 dozen, and only 1 bar on battery was used (3ah - newer). I probably will never get a larger battery saw because when a large tree falls it is nice to cut all day and not worry about running out of power. But man, it is nice just to pull trigger and go. 2 issues with saw, it is awkward to depress safety trigger and then saw trigger. Also motor vents? on bottom of saw get clogged with oily sawdust. After pulling all the parts out, charged the battery, read the directions, and learned how the machine operates along with some online videos. This version does come with a good 3 AH battery and charger. If you have any other DeWalt cordless tools, those batteries will work as well. The run time on the furnished battery was not pushed to the limit as it just never ran dry during my experience. I did need to purchase the recommended bar and chain oil locally as my local H/D did not have any in stock at the time. Utilizing the safety switch was a bit cumbersome to master but after removing my bulky gloves I fell into an acceptable rhythm. Trying to cut the base of small trees was not an easy task and the cut was not as clean as I would have liked. Also, the positioning was uncomfortable to get the saw in a horizontal plane with the tree and be safe at the same time. The cuts are easily performed best in downward motion. I did have some concern about the functionality of the oiler. When using chain saws in the past, a layer of oily residue has been visible when the oiler was working at its best. This saw is an exception and I cannot be sure at this point if the oiler is being effective or working at all. Overall, the product seems well made with a combination of metal and plastic. It feels sturdy with some noticeable weight to your right arm, as that is the design. The overall feel is of a quality tool. The kickback plate is a must since due to the short arm of the saw could get the user into trouble rather quickly. Sawdust residue is seen as a minimum buildup.I ended up making a kit that allows the saw to rest on its side and to carry all necessary items for use. The user manual wants you to drain the oil at the end of use, IMO this could be an unnecessary step thus causing more mess than prevention. I am disappointed that if the cap shows signs of leaking, then a modification or change should be established ASAP. Other than several points of concern, I will give this saw a solid ****.

I am on my third one of these in less than a year. That being said, the saw is great, it works extremely well and is designed to reduce fatigue. I have used this thing countless hours and it runs exceptionally well. The one issue is that it is allergic to any moisture whatsoever. I find it sad that dewalt made a chainsaw and didn’t waterproof the computer board, which would cost pennies to do with a spray. The first one lasted thirty minutes because a drop of dew apparently fell off of a leaf and found the electronic board(I’m guessing here, but seems most likely as the dew hadn’t completely dried and it suddenly stopped working). Once he transferred me, the call went to an answering machine that only said they were closed and would reopen tomorrow without stating the name of the business and I had no number to contact them. I gave up and bought another because I didn’t have time to deal with dewalt’s crappy customer service anymore. I have numerous dewalt tools and have for over 20 years. This is the only tool that has ever failed me other than an air framing nailer.

There is however no chain sprocket on the end of the chain guide bar. A dual-purpose tool is included and stored in the black plastic chain guide bar cover (Scabbard). Another nice feature is the nut on the chain drive cover stays in place to prevent it from getting misplaced when the nut is loosened and the cover is removed. You need to fill the oil reservoir before use. A high-quality biodegradable Bar and Chain Oil (not included) is recommended.This new extremely portable saw will complement my corded 14” chain saw that I used for jobs around the house for many years now. We have removed most of our larger trees and palms over the years. Now I just need something portable on an occasional basis to cut branches of our 2 remaining trees and larger shrubs. This compact cordless pruning saw is so convenient to use. I don’t have to worry about the placement of the cord as I cut thru branches. I especially like that I don’t have to go thru the hassle of pulling out my extension cord and then having to wind it back up/storing after use. I can simply grab this portable saw and accomplish the task at hand quickly and easily. My corded chainsaw still works well with the occasional chain replacements. It still gets regular use by family and friends.

Light, easy to operate without pull starting. I bought the DeWalt pole saw first and was impressed at how well it worked. So I decided to try (if the pole saw worked this well) I couldn't go wrong getting the DeWalt 8" pruning chainsaw. It came with a standard 20V battery and charger. That runs for about 40 minutes on heavy uses. I also have ( that came with the pole saw ) an extended 20V battery that runs almost 1 1/2 hours, highly recommended. If you have a yard like mine, a wooded area with a lot of low lying limbs. In conclusion, all I have to say this tool does what it was intended to do. Makes cleanup a breeze after an occasional storm.

One end is screwdriver shaped to turn the adjustment screw. You will always have it with you as long as you use the scabbard. There is a tip guard to prevent hitting the end and getting a kickback. [Rewarded Review] Leaks oil anywhere you set it

We bought this late spring of last year. It works great for small limbs, and smaller trim jobs. Lightweight and easy to handle. However, it leaks oil anywhere and everywhere you set it. We’ve only used Dewalt brand oil, followed recommended fill directions; yet leaks it wherever you set it. Others have had the same issue, should have looked at reviews before purchasing. We have an unsightly oil spot on front porch, one on the 4-wheeler sideboard and garage floor. What a mess. We have two larger chainsaws different brand, they’ve never leaked. Went to get it out for a small job yesterday, oil everywhere…again.Love other functions of the small pruner just can’t deal with the oil leak.Has to be a flawed design with the oil reservoir.
