This product - now manufactured in Bangladesh - is disappointing in too many ways to list here. The issues all really boil down to one thing: cost savings measures for which 5.11 charges more for the privilege to own. This is my 3rd pair of the ATAC Storm, the previous being the original version (no longer available). What you get now is less leather, more plastic, less protection, less support, more difficult to put on, and a poorer fit. And yes, this is after giving them a few weeks of break-in time.I could upload comparative photos of where 5.11 has chosen to skimp on material (including the laces - of all things - are a bit short for this-type boot). These certainly aren't expected to last as long as my previous pairs, and I can only advise others to shop well ... MoreThis product - now manufactured in Bangladesh - is disappointing in too many ways to list here. While the pull tab on the back is a welcome addition, the 2.0 version of this boot leaves a lot to be desired. They definitely run narrower than the original. I'd worn a 12w for years, but the new version's 12w is uncomfortably tight all the way up the laces. This may have to do with the liner seeming bulkier. One of the best things about the uninsulated ATAC Storm was that it was a four season waterproof boot. You had room to bulk up your socks in the winter and keep comfortable with normal socks the other three seasons. That's not the case with this generation. I doubt I could fit my winter socks inside these, and in the heat of the summer they are sweaty beasts. I hope this new liner means it's more effective, but I never had issues with the lining on the ... MoreWhile the pull tab on the back is a welcome addition, the 2.0 version of this boot leaves a lot to be desired. These boots are the best I’ve ever worn. They are comfortable from the first wearing. This is my 3rd pair in 7 years. I retire my old boots for working around the house. My new ones will be the everyday wear. You can get a great shine on the toe, so the only thing I don’t wear them with is a suit. Highly recommend!! You won’t be disappointed.

Purchased these a while back, to replace my old ones, in case they wore out. But the old ones held up longer than I thought. Finally now wearing the new ones for the last 2 weeks. As awesome, if not better than the old ones. No break in time, just wear them and go. Not a fan of the slightly shorter laces and zipper “flap”, but you won’t find better boots than these for the job. Will definitely buy again.
This is now my 4th pair of 5.11 ATACs. I won't review my first pair (hard/composite toe that I don't wear often) or my second pair that I keep shined up and only wear for court. The third pair I bought I wore nearly every day for 3 years for duty use as a city police officer.Overall, I was pretty happy with the third pair of boots. They were comfortable (though I did change out the insoles), not the heaviest boot I've worn, slipped on/off easily, could be shined to keep them looking good, and generally did what I needed them to do. They claimed to be waterproof, but I have doubt about that claim. I never noticed any water issues with regular rainfall or a standard puddle, but after wading into just over ankle-deep water (though well under the top of the boot) my ... MoreThis is now my 4th pair of 5.11 ATACs. They were comfortable (though I did change out the insoles), not the heaviest boot I've worn, slipped on/off easily, could be shined to keep them looking good, and generally did what I needed them to do. They claimed to be waterproof, but I have doubt about that claim. I never noticed any water issues with regular rainfall or a standard puddle, but after wading into just over ankle-deep water (though well under the top of the boot) my feet and socks were completely soaked. The durability on pair #3 wasn't awful. The suede-like collar tore after probably a year of full-time use. I was able to continue using the boots for another 2 years or so since my pants usually cover the collar, but the tear progressively became worse and the foam insides around the collar became easily visible. By the time I retired the boots the collar around about half the circumference of the right boot was torn open to the point it was a loose flap. I finally had to retire pair #3 when the rubber on the right toe began to separate from the boot. After using them for 3 years I wasn't too displeased with having to get a new pair given the price I had paid for these; they had just run their course. Had I just had pair #3 as a data point, I would have given them probably 4 stars (docking a star for the lack of durability on the collar). But then I bought pair #4...I have absolutely no idea what went wrong, but there is something completely off about these boots now. On the FIFTH DAY of light to moderate use the stitching connecting the suede-like collar to the lining on the inside of one boot broke and completely separated on one side. I can't stress enough that I haven't done anything to these boots except put them on and off 5 times by pulling on the collar a not-extreme amount (1. because I know the collar likes to split to begin with, and 2. because there ISN'T A PULL LOOP on this style of boot for whatever reason). That brings me to my next issue. I CANNOT get these boots on my feet. I have never struggled so hard to get a boot on in my life. I haven't had this issue with any of the other 3 pairs of the same style of boot, so I'm not sure what happened with this pair. I normally put the boots on, zip the zipper, and then tie them not-tightly so I can slip them on/off using only the zipper. Like I said, it worked fine for the other 3 pairs. No matter how loosely I tie the laces on this pair it's like I can't get them loose enough to get them on using the unzipped zipper. I have literally untied them, unzipped the zipper, and pulled the top of the collar open to loosen the laces and I STILL have to STOMP my foot to get it inside the boot. The back calf of the boot just completely collapses when I try to put it on as if there's no support in there whatsoever. I don't think there's any chance I will ever be able to put these boots on using only the zipper as they were intended.Of course, LAPG won't accept a return because I've already thrown away the original box and 5.11 won't accept a warranty return because I didn't purchase the boots from them. So now I'm stuck with a pair of boots that are falling apart and are a pain to get on my feet. This was probably the last pair of 5.11 boots I buy; it's apparently time to try brands that are of better quality.
Excellent fit, super comfy. Same fit as the regular not water proof ATAC 2 boots I've been wearing for the last year. My only complain is there isn't enough material where the zipper is. I can wear this as tight as my other pair. If I tighten em like I normally would I can't get my foot out of in of the boot.
I got this boot to replace my broken Air Force-issued garbage flying boots about a year ago. I fly C-17s and am constantly running around the jet and/or cockpit, as well as the flightline, and I can say without a doubt that these are the best boots I've ever owned. They stand up well to punishment and are lighter than some tennis shoes I've owned. The zipper is a great feature so I don't have to tie/untie every time, and if I need a snugger fit I can cinch down the laces as needed. Really appreciate that they come in coyote brown. My only concern is the durability of the zipper in the long run-- it seems like something that could fail eventually and render the boot nearly useless. I've had no issues with it so far but am still cognizant of the potential future ... MoreI got this boot to replace my broken Air Force-issued garbage flying boots about a year ago. I have purchased four pairs of these boots. I noticed this last time the style number changed but still basically the same boot. I am a fire investigator and wear one pair to work in. I wear another pair for when I do office work and other uniformed work and am not scuffing the boot up. My third pair is just my everyday winter boot that I wear everywhere on my time off. The boot polishes up nicely and looks great with street clothes. When the field boot gets overly worn, I demote the boots down and buy a new pair for my everyday wear. This doesn’t happen often, as they are a very good quality and don’t wear out easily. Most importantly, they are comfortable and are waterproof. I've owned a number of these boots. Overall the quality is good, they are durable and comfortable. There are, however, a few minor annoyances. The latest model has this silly loop poking out the back that looks like it will get caught in underbrush the first time I take them into the backcountry. I'm thinking of ways to tie them down. I haven't worn them long enough to say much more than that, but I notice they have the same printed info label on the tongue the last ones had. That label wore down to illegibility within a couple years, so by the time I had to replace them I wasn't sure which model of boot I needed to replace or what my size is.The last pair the velcro zipper cover didn't fasten properly and always came undone within a couple dozen steps. All of the boots I've owned have had an issue with the insole coming unglued and falling out when the inside of the boot gets wet, such as fording a stream. Usually the first time I take them off after getting them wet, the insole comes right out with my foot and never quite settles back again into the same spot, often bunching up at the toe.
These boots are comfortable for like 2-4 months of straight walking/on your feet all day. Then the padding kind of goes flat. Tried to put a shoe pad in them, but they slip because these boots are not made to have them put in. They say waterproof, but honestly maybe the first couple of weeks. That means if you spill water on them you fill be fine. If you step in a couple inches of water if you're a CO, then make sure you bring extra socks because the insides will be soaked. The soles are soft so they don't last long. My average time with these boots are 5-8 months. Then I have to get a new pair. This year alone these boots have gone up $30-$40 in price so far. Not worth the price anymore in my opinion. I've gotten 4 pairs of these in the past 2-2.5yrs and I'm ... MoreThese boots are comfortable for like 2-4 months of straight walking/on your feet all day.
