Best EMS pants.

These are the best EMS pants money can buy. Thayer feel great even on the ride home after 24 hours in them. The fit is true to size and consistent with other 5.11 products. 5.11’s are the only pants that I can buy without having to try on. They have been consistent since day one. I was buying 5.11 pants back when they were made by Royal Robbins and you could only find them at the climbing and camping stores. The waistband has just enough give to stay comfortable after a big fire station meal.

Broken snap, quick to fade but very comfortable

Overall I like the pants. They fit comfortably and the pockets are perfect for Fire EMS work. Downside is one of the pairs main snap has already broke, I had to rig that pair to keep them up. The navy color also fades pretty quickly from the real dark navy they start out as. Other than fading quickly and the broken waist snap closure, I’d give these a 5 star.

Decent pants but over priced.

The Men’s Taclite EMS Pants are durable pants. They’re great for colder weather with thermals these make the frigid winter in Montana somewhat bearable. They do fairly well in wind when it’s -20F. Not that that’s a selling point but I work on a rural service that has a call volume second only to the largest city in the state. That means my pants see a lot of different environments. These are not well suited for warm weather but will get the job done. I run hot so that’s subjective. They are quiet compared to similar pants from 5.11 and the weight-to-durability is excellent. The durability and color fastness is exactly what you expect from 5.11. Stitching, material, and colorfastness is second to none. The elastic in the waist is a nice touch that I now consider a necessity when I try new pants as is the rubber shirt keeper. If you use the XSHEARS they DO NOT FIT the sheath pocket. They will fit if you try hard enough though. The strap that holds the shears in the pocket isn’t long enough so it’s a fight to snap the strap every time. I consider this a design fail because they could easily use a high quality elastic strap or a similar fabric that has a little give but they choose not to.The circumference of the pant legs is WIDE. I do not like looking like I’m wearing clown pants when I don these. The cargo pockets on the sides are awkward and don’t expand on all sides. Rather, they expand on one side. I like to keep things in the side pockets that I need quick access to and there just isn’t enough room to carry my stuff comfortably. Hip/front pocket are too small and they have that funky stitch at the back-bottom. The pen slots should be deeper and the Velcro could be stronger.Overall, these are a decent pair of pants but not at this price point.

Easily the best EMS pants
8 July 2023

Easily the best pants to wear in EMS. I highly recommend them. They fit well and the waistband is slightly different elastic to allow for a very comfortable fit. I normally wear a 33-34, so I opt for a 34 and they are beyond amazing. Had to get a 2nd and even a 3rd pair for work. The first pair I have had for nearly a year and they have held up fantastic. If you wash the Taclight pairs, flip them inside out and wash on cold to retain the water proof barrier.

Excellent utility and comfort!
30 September 2016

I purchased my first pair of 5.11 Taclite EMS pants a year ago along with another pair of tactical 5.11 trousers, and have purchased more since and will continue to do so. Whilst I do quite like both pair, I simply must illustrate and expressly articulate how exquisitely brilliant and dependable all of the utility of the EMS trousers has proven to be for me. As an ER nurse, working in an ER that is laid out pretty spaciously I have found the pockets to be particularly useful and essentially fundamental. I'm never darting across the hall or to the supply room or to a drawer when I need a bandage suddenly for an unexpectedly pulled I.V. or a trauma/lac that presents to triage/nurse 1st. I've got everything I could load my exam room drawers with in my many trouser ... MoreI purchased my first pair of 5.11 Taclite EMS pants a year ago along with another pair of tactical 5.11 trousers, and have purchased more since and will continue to do so. I'm never darting across the hall or to the supply room or to a drawer when I need a bandage suddenly for an unexpectedly pulled I.V. or a trauma/lac that presents to triage/nurse 1st. I've got everything I could load my exam room drawers with in my many trouser pockets in addition to a nifty ropey type strap (excuse my ignorance and inability to properly name this particular strap!) for my radio which keeps it easily accessible, but out of my way without it becoming a bit of excess pocket debris! I saw a lot of reviews for the womens EMS pants which illustrated that they are sized too small and that they're a bit merciless for women with a bit of curve in the hips and thighs region, so I just went with the men's EMS trousers. Other than the trousers fitting a bit baggily (which I suppose is how men are comfortable in them?) I unequivocally adore these trousers and have come to depend on them quite happily. In addition to the pockets, the fabric breathes well for long, active shifts which keeps me comfortable so I can concentrate on my patients' comfort without even thinking about my own! The fabric also stretches well so I never feel my movement restricted by my trousers and my skin is protected from exposure to hazardous and biological fluids and substances that might otherwise have soaked through my clothes and made contact with my skin. The knees have a bit of extra fabric to make kneeling down, when necessary, a position I am able to maintain comfortably for whatever duration required to complete the tasks I've had to in said position! I am thoroughly pleased with my 5.11 EMS trousers and my first pair are just as aesthetically appealing as they were when they first arrived and have lost none of their practical utility and effectiveness so far!

Fits perfectly.
13 May 2024

Very well-made trousers. They fit my "hard-to-fit" son who is tall and slender. The waist and length are perfect. They have all of the appropriate pockets to accommodate the EMS equipment he is required to carry on his person. Durable material, washes well.

Good but not great.
19 January 2019

I bought a pair of these due to the fact that they were supposedly more breathable and stretchy than the standard EMS pants, which I have used for years. They do have some better flex to them, and I like how the pockets are angled. But that was about it for me. I dont notice any appreciable difference in material weight or breathability to the standard pant. The sizing runs large in the waist, and I miss the secondary loops on the belt loops. The biggest issue for me is the placement of the belt loops. On the standard EMS pants, the items I carry on my belt fit in comfortable locations and are out of the way. On this version, I cannot carry my normal gear without it being in a poor position. The build and overall quality of these are up to the usual bombproof 5.11 ... MoreI bought a pair of these due to the fact that they were supposedly more breathable and stretchy than the standard EMS pants, which I have used for years. Great pants but 5:11 needs realistic woman’s sizes and cuts
4 March 2022

The pants are great, the low rating is due to the lack of realistic woman’s sizes and cuts. I like the quality of these pants for my job. They are my preferred EMS pants. I like the location and number of pockets. The seams and material holds up well. I only wish that 5:11 made realistic woman’s sizes that were not low rise so that I don’t have to buy mens pants and have them hemmed. Last I tried to get the woman’s version they were low rise which is terribly uncomfortable while working and causes you to be concerned that your pants are going to fall down while caring for people. (Whoever heard of low rise work pants?…why?) Also the largest size I could find was labeled as 20 but try closer to a 14-16 in jean size. Sorry a lot of woman in EMS are larger than a 14. Sent out wrong pants twice then ghosted me
8 August 2022

Purchased these taclite ems pants in navy blue sized 32w 30L amongst some other products almost two months ago, took forever to send them out and then received the pants in black. The package said navy but the pants were tagged black and were black in color, right size. I call customer service after receiving and Jonathan Santana a customer service rep says ok no problem I’ll send you replacements just send the wrong ones back, I wait about another week or so and then receive the pants but this time instead of the wrong color they are the wrong size. I received the taclite ems navy blue in size 30w and 32L instead of the 32w 30L i originally ordered. I need these as part of a uniform dress code for school, I ordered well in advance to get them in time. I have been a loyal customer for other 5.11 gear until now. All these products say they are in stock online I am beyond disappointed and wish I could get my money back. If I were you I’d shop elsewhere seeing these guys don’t quite have it together.

Worth the Money
12 March 2014

I have been wearing cheaper EMS pants for years because, well, 5.11's are expensive. These pants are worth the extra money. These pants are clearly the result of extensive field testing, user feedback, and refinement. There are so many little details put in to the construction that make these pants much more comfortable and functional than anything I've worn before. The main cargo pockets are sectioned with different sized dividers, allowing me to easily find the multiple things I keep in them (electrodes, alcohol preps, gloves, penlight, syringes...). Each side has a well designed holster for easy access to trauma shears and tape. Two smaller lower leg cargo pockets are great for other random equipment (like my cell phone charger) and still easy to access with one ... MoreI have been wearing cheaper EMS pants for years because, well, 5.11's are expensive. Each side has a well designed holster for easy access to trauma shears and tape. Two smaller lower leg cargo pockets are great for other random equipment (like my cell phone charger) and still easy to access with one hand. The only thing I miss is a front-thigh mini cargo pocket for cell phone, keys, etc. There are small construction elements that make the pants more comfortable and flexible. The elastic waistband moves freely inside the outer waistband. The waistband has rubberized stitching on the inside that keeps my shirt tucked in and my pants in place as I move around. The back of my shirt would constantly come out when I bent over in my old pants. The waist pockets drop down and extend rearward at the bottom, which keeps everything in them when I sit or lie down. The belt loops are large, rugged, and wide, with smaller loops on the outside that are great for clipping keys and ID's to. The back of the bottom pant leg by the heel is reinforced so you don't have to worry about having tattered cuffs. The Teflon treatment causes water/blood/whatever to bead and roll off, but in my experience with other garments, that effect goes away after a few washes. They look great! I am 6' tall with an athletic build, I normally wear a 32/31. I bought the 34/32 because that was the closest size without going under. The waist is large on me but cinches up well with a belt, without bunching at all. The 32 length is a tiny bit too long but the cuff is narrow at the bottom and doesn't hang below my boot heel or look too baggy. The pants do catch on my heels when walking around the station barefoot though ;)I would definitely recommend coughing up the extra cash for these pants, it's worth it.The only thing I can't speak to is durability, as I've only had them for a week so far, but I expect them to last years. If you're buying a couple pairs of these, I recommend joining the NAEMT because then you get a 20% discount on the whole 5.11 website.
