Was looking for an external drive to store some specific files. Flash/thumb drives just seem to disappear at my house so was looking for something larger that could easily be identified as "mine". Aside from my specific desires it's a great product. Easy to use, fairly fast and everything worked as hoped/expected. Staff help was very pleasant and helpful. Took the extra effort to see if their stock room had other choices not on display and found exactly what I was looking for. A great experience.

I was in Staples looking specifically for a usb-c hard drive. First reaction was to get an old fashion hard drive that uses a spinning magnetic disk with a lot of moving parts. Then I found this drive which seems to be new technology. I've been modernizing my computer systems because of Windows 11 and now I am set for another decade.The difference between the spinning disk drives that are old when compared to many like this one is that this one has no moving parts so it will last longer. Instead of hard drive crashing this SSD drive tends to be the way to go moving forward. USB-C hard drives are quick, and since this has new technology it will be good for many years.

The ""One Touch"" version was about $25 more than my first drive, but it comes with the software needed to create a backup so the extra $25 seemed reasonable. When I tried to create a backup plan with the Toolkit software, it will only back up the C: drive. Even under advanced settings (see picture #2), it does not recognize that I have another drive connected (F:). I could still drag and drop the files from one drive to the other, but there is no way that I can keep them synchronized as a mirror image that way. I will have to buy other software to create the backup, which means that I would have been better off buying 2 of the cheaper Seagate drives instead of getting the ""One Touch"" version. My existing Seagate external drive was not performing due to connector wiring deficiencies. Staples helped me select a new equivalent drive. They even transferred the files from the old to the new. Excellent service from Staples!
Didn’t realise how small it is. So tiny. Ultra fast. Can’t notice any lag. Worked soon as plugged in.
The name ""One Touch"" means nothing. I thought there would be a physical button on the drive to start a backup ... no. They included a link to download software. All back-ups are managed on your computer. It's fine for what I wanted.
This is my second 5 TB Seagate Hard Drive. One should note that the data transfer using USB 3 is very very slow. It took over 26 hours to transfer 2.1 TB of videos!! Note too, that this device comes with a 3 year warranty. My first one died 3 weeks past the warranty expiration date! This, of course leaves no recourse, but I still needed a 5 TB drive, and this was the alternative. Figure about $30 per year for the privilege of having this storage, BUT BE READY AT THE FIRST SIGN OF TROUBLE TO SAVE YOUR DATA AND MOVE IT TO ANOTHER DRIVE.

Also being 7200 RPM I thought it would be a nice upgrade to seek speeds. Unfortunately this drive wont work for mine or everyones needs. The read speeds were an improvement to a Backup Plus as I was getting around 250-270mbps on average with the One Touch which was nice to see, but the write speeds were averaging 50-60mbps. I could not get it to write any faster than that which was some what surprising. This simply will not work for me, but might be fine for others. To be fair I am not using this product as typically used or maybe intended so I will keep to 2 starts but... The first thing I did is remove this drive from the enclosure. It is a 2.5"" for those curious. I installed the drive in a Ubiquiti Cloud Key Gen 2 since 5TB is the largest it will accept. This drive worked well for the first few weeks and then the clicking started... Its now dead. Going to try a WD next but an expensive 1 month of NVR storage.
Super fast transfer rate, small, good price relative to an equivalent volume of large flash drives. But of course more expensive per GB relative to the slower external hard disk drives.
