A century before A GAME OF THRONES, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros... A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS compiles the first three official prequel novellas to George R.R. Before Tyrion Lannister and Podrick Payne there was Dunk and Egg. A young, naïve but courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals - in stature if not experience. Tagging along with him is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg - whose true identity must be hidden from all he and Dunk encounter: for in reality he is Aegon Targaryen, and one day he will be king. Improbable heroes though they be, great destinies lie ahead for Dunk and Egg; as do powerful foes, royal intrigue, and outrageous exploits. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, and featuring more than 160 illustrations by Gary Gianni, one of the finest fantasy artists of our time, this beautiful volume will transport readers to the world of the Seven Kingdoms in an age of bygone chivalry.

A book I have wanted for some time. Received in great quality, will likely be using world of books for most future book purchases. Great value.

I limited my experience with Martin's epic to the TV show because I was reluctant to deal with the detail and complexity of his Fire And Ice novels. But this volume seemed approachable, so I jumped in.What a delight! Despite the many characters and exquisite detail of the narrative, it was not the least bit confusing or overwhelming. This was partly due to surprisingly talented writing, but equally to the surprisingly talented narration. The narrator delivered a story worthy of a raconteur. There was never any confusing which of Martin's many characters was speaking, such was the quality of LLoyd's many voices, and his delivery was equal to the talents of a stage actor.I did not want this book to end. Now, sad to say, I suppose I will have to have the entire ... MoreI limited my experience with Martin's epic to the TV show because I was reluctant to deal with the detail and complexity of his Fire And Ice novels. This series of three short stories set in the world of Game of Thrones, but earlier than most of the song of Ice and Fire events. I never really got into Game of Thrones, either in book form, or in the HBO series, but I found this small collection of stories very approachable and enjoyable however it relates to the G O T events. It contains three stories The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight and revolves around a simple hedge-knight, Duncan the Tall, and his squire Egg, who is really a member of the ruling clan.

I very much enjoyed reading about Duncan the talls adventures. I just wish the beautiful illustrations were bigger and the words were a bit bigger too to make for easier reading. Any big print editions available with colour illustrations??
Fantastic read prior or after watching 'The Game of Thrones' DVD or book (George Martin) series. In the TV series my fascination was with the 'Targaryens Kingdom' when it still held the 'Iron Throne', so this this novel brought that out. It was just fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
The sort of captivating intrigue, action, politics we loved in the asoiaf series paired with a handful of humour and despair, compacted into this little beauty.Never thought I'd see the day I would become attached to characters from novellas, given how small these books usually are.. However, I couldn't help but adore Dunk and Egg! More so, these 3 novellas are rich with heritage, history and lineage- something I am a sucker for. I'm actually baffled as to how GRRM managed to portray and convey everything that he has done in such a small book! Sheer brilliance and pure talent.Another point, as an avid fan of asoiaf and the world Grrm has painstakingly created, I 'fangirled' many a time with seeing particular characters -those of the legends and tales we've heard ... MoreThe sort of captivating intrigue, action, politics we loved in the asoiaf series paired with a handful of humour and despair, compacted into this little beauty.Never thought I'd see the day I would become attached to characters from novellas, given how small these books usually are.. It was a little thinner( less pages) than I thought. But is in great shape . Just as described. Love it.
If you're waiting anxiously for Winds of Winter to release why not fill your time with these lovely short stories. I found myself more attached to Dunk and Egg than perhaps more of the main characters in ASOIF. It keeps your toes in the same world and gives hommage to the series while still being new material. Well worth the used price and a great way to waste away some winter days.
Very strong story with memorable characters. Absolutely top drawer illustrations add significantly to the experience. I first read a friend's copy, then went out and bought a hard bound copy of my own. Like 'Treasure Island' this is a standout book you want to share.
Devasted that Game of Thrones HBO show is finished?Emotional that the Winds of Winter is not yet finished?Wondering what to do with your life in the meantime? Then I would highly recommend getting A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms. Before Tyrion Lannister and Podrick Payne there was Dunk and Egg. Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals – in stature if not experience. Tagging along with him is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg. Egg's true identity must be kept hidden from all because he isn't who he seems to be.This is a brilliantly written, combing the prequel novellas to George R.R. Martin's ongoing masterwork. Get ready to be transported back to the world of the Seven Kingdoms in an age of bygone chivalry.
