A nice-to-have no frills desktop

The RAM and SSD hard drive are drop dead simple to locate, access, and replace should you want to bump up the performance of the device as all of the stock parts in this thing are very low performance components. Low performance is not a bad thing, just know going into this purchase that it does best as a very basic word processor and web browser. Overall, it's nice to have a simple no frills desktop that doesn't raise my electricity bill, just do yourself a favor and recycle the included mouse and spend a few more bucks on a better mouse.

The graphics are good for viewing videos and such.I recommend this desktop for people looking for simple, easy every day use. Great for students to get their work done and for anyone that just wants to have a computer and not pay an arm and a leg. I have had Acer computers in the past and have not had any problems with them. I particularly recommend this desktop computer because of the dependability of the brand and the price is definitely a big plus.

Excellent Value

I got my Acer Aspire XC-830 a couple of weeks ago and I have found it to be limited, but excellent for many things. This is not a gaming PC or something to use for anything that requires intense processing power. However, in the right circumstance, it can be a high value purchase. If you want a computer to do any basic tasks, or maybe a spare or guest PC then I think this is a great option. Or maybe just something to stream or watch videos, again this is a great choice. I was able to play some lower level games that are not memory or processor intensive just fine. Out of the Park Baseball played, but it was a bit slow. Office works and this PC allowed me to be my usually crazy self of gradually opening more and more tabs and browser windows as I was surfing the web ... MoreI got my Acer Aspire XC-830 a couple of weeks ago and I have found it to be limited, but excellent for many things. Out of the Park Baseball played, but it was a bit slow. Office works and this PC allowed me to be my usually crazy self of gradually opening more and more tabs and browser windows as I was surfing the web and responding to emails without performance issues. This is a desktop that would fit the needs for either of my parents’ just fine.By modern standards the 8GB of RAM and 256GB drive is definitely on the smaller side. The mouse and keyboard are subpar. The keyboard is really cheaply made. If it was an average keyboard I would of given it 5*s instead of 4. However they do work and of course you can always upgrade if you dislike the keyboard as much as I did. At least the keyboard has a numeric keypad so I do like that part of it. I don’t want to sound like I’m being too hard on this machine; I just don’t want to give any false impressions on its power. For the price I think this PC is a great buy. I do like the small size and it also has a built in DVD player which is nice. The Wi-Fi works well. You will also find all the usual ports and jacks. It only has 1 HDMI port, but 4 USB 2.0, 2 USB 3.0, microphone, headphones, and an Ethernet port.At the end of the day if you need a computer and you aren’t a serious gamer and prefer a desktop to a laptop I would seriously consider this machine. Excellent value for what you get. If I knew someone looking for a desktop in this price range that can do all the basic PC tasks, I would absolutely recommend this a friend.

Good Basic Computer
16 August 2022

This is a very basic desktop, great for basic, everyday use and a good starter computer for someone, such as a student or an someone who doesn't need bells and whistles but does now need to have email and get on-line to do their banking and don't use a smartphone for that, like me. It comes with a basic keyboard and mouse which are both wired, a DVD driver (a surprise as you don't see these that often anymore), and enough USB ports. As I tend to use flash drives and external hard drives a lot when I take work home, I added a USB extender but it isn't needed.I was disappointed that there wasn't a start-up guide to go with this unless it was left out of my box (all I received was a USA FCC Compliance Statement). I had nothing to tell me what was available or even where the power button was located. For someone experienced it isn't hard to figure out but for someone just getting their first computer, it needs more. The mailing box did have a sticker with the specifications on it but due to handling, half of it is unreadable. There is nothing about where to get a manual for operation. While I realize this is low-end, this takes budget to a different level. It is the reason for the lost star. Now, it was billed to be a low-end gaming computer and for the games I play, this works with no problems. I have actually seen play go smoother with less lag using this. My games are graphics heavy and it is loading the graphics which cause the slow down but I haven't experience it with the Acer yet.Overall, it is meets the expectations one would have for a basic computer.

I had a decent desktop computer, but I went ahead and bought this one because I wanted to go to Windows 11 sooner than later and the computer I had was not Windows 11 compatible. So far so good with this full featured little wonder. While it has the form factor of a desktop it is really a laptop trapped in the body of desktop. That is why the price is so low yet it contains so many features. Even the power supply is external and looks like a laptop power supply. A few downsides though the mouse they included was like a tiny travel mouse, the keyboard seemed a little cheap, and the slot on the front that looks like an SD card reader is plugged with rubber and does not appear to be functional. I really like the fact that it comes with a DVD though as most budget desktops will not. The only USB 3.0 ports are on the front but the back has (4) USB 2.0 ports. I have had good reliability with Acer desktops in the past, hopefully this one will continue that tradition.

When testing I found that with all drivers updated, including Windows, Intel, and Acer, it still has slow networking speeds, lags when you have more than 2 windows open, and in general lags when you click on any program. The unit is designed around laptop parts, processer, ram and DVD drive are all laptop parts. It is also powered by a laptop power brick, not an internal power supply. These components make this computer smaller and lighter than most others in this range. The fact that it has a DVD drive is amazing in today’s computers at this price. The back USB ports (4 of them) are limited to 2.0, the front USB ports (2 of them) are USB 3.0. It has 1 PCIx16 slot for expansion although adding a card will be difficult because there is no power available if the card needs it. It has both VGA and HDMI video outputs. The spot for the front card reader has been plugged because it does not have one. Not any big deal because card readers are cheap and easy to use. Both Norton and Firefox come preinstalled as well as a few Acer apps that help keep drivers up to date.A note about the updates. Although they are always welcome, in this case they do not fix the speed issues. I am attaching 3 pictures. The pictures show the networking speeds, both wireless and wired, and the SSD speed. The networking speeds are of some concern only because the LAN card is gigabit, yet it cannot get close to that. It was tested on a gigabit network, with gigabit internet. The internal SSD also falls short of what it should be able to do. Again, all updates and drivers were installed and current with all Windows 11 kb’s and fixes in place. I believe these short falls are coming from the slow processor simply not being able to keep up with heavy demand. If this computer will be used for simple tasks like web mail and general word processing it should work very well. It has a fast start up time. The computer does not create any real heat when running because of the laptop parts and the external power brick. With the limited space on the SSD, you may require adding an internal HDD or SSD. It has space for either full size drives or laptop drives. You will need a SATA cable and will have to disassemble the front of the computer to free up the SATA power wire, but it is there. I did add an internal drive for my testing and will confirm that both sizes and types worked as expected. I would suggest if you do add an internal drive to keep with the SSD type because of the heat created by an older HDD has no place to go, and no case fan to remove the heat. This is a low end desktop that would be great for someone who only uses it to check mail and maybe look up the occasional recipe on the web.

Great basic desktop
5 August 2022

This Acer Aspire desktop is great for basic users who want an upgrade. Available ports: 1x VGA connection, 1x HDMI, 4x USB ports, Ethernet port, and 2x USB ports in the front. There are 3.5mm jacks for audio/mic in the back and front of the desktop. Not frequently used, but good to have is a DVD drive. In this slim line desktop, there is an option to add a secondary hard drive. Very surprised that this Celeron processor takes very little time from cold boot to a fully running Windows. For the most basic users, 8Gb is more than enough. Also, 256GB of storage is more than enough, but if you have a massive amount of photos and videos, you might want to have an external hard drive or store files in the cloud. This pc is also great for grade school students, especially virtual studying.

The Acer Aspire XC-830-UB11 is a great computer for anyone that needs a simple workstation or a small computer for a home media center. If you are looking for a gaming computer or a 'pro' pc, this is not the one for you, but if you just need a computer for your work/office or if you want something small and light to use in your media center, then this is a good choice for you. I personally have been using this computer as a media computer in my living room, the fact that it has a DVD drive and the small footprint make it fit great into my media center. I have installed Plex and am using this computer as a client to watch movies off of my main computer in my living room and it works great for this use case. The keyboard and mouse that are included are not very good ... MoreThe Acer Aspire XC-830-UB11 is a great computer for anyone that needs a simple workstation or a small computer for a home media center. I have installed Plex and am using this computer as a client to watch movies off of my main computer in my living room and it works great for this use case. The keyboard and mouse that are included are not very good quality, but if you don't already have one, it is included so you don't need to provide your own if needed. The 8Gb of RAM is fine, it would be nice to have more, but I think for this type of desktop it is plenty for most tasks. My only complaint is the SSD is only 256Gb so if you are saving stuff on the computer itself it will quickly use up the available hard-drive space, I personally would recommend saving everything on either an external hard-drive or using some kind of cloud storage. The computer is easily upgradable so if you do need more hard-drive space, you can replace the current SSD or add another drive using the PCIe slot that is available on the motherboard. Be aware that if you do require more memory than the 8Gb of RAM, this processor does not support more than 8Gb so it already includes the max supported memory in this configuration, if you need more memory you would need to check if there is another configuration with a different CPU that supports more memory.Overall this is a great computer for anyone who just needs to do light work or for someone who wants to use the small size and DVD drive as a home media center. If you need more power or your work requires graphics or high compute power then this isn't a good option for you.

Solid Budget Conscious Desktop Computer

This Acer desktop computer was extremely easy to setup and get running right away. It does not come with a monitor so you'll have to supply your own but as this is considered more of a budget pc, you can still afford a decent one.Once unboxed, I plugged everything in. There is a basic mouse and keyboard included that you will most likely want to upgrade at some point. Go with a wireless set as they will be much better made than what's included. This took about an hour in total but everything worked like a charm. For the standard configuration, this comes with an Intel Celeron processor, an integrated video card, 8GB of ram and a 256GB SSD hard drive. It is definitely on the smaller size when you look at the desktop market these days but knowing that this is more of a basic budget pc, it will do the trick for your day to day tasks such as movie or entertainment streaming and less memory intensive games. Windows boots quickly and applications load fast as well. You won't be doing intense video editing with this machine but it would be great for going through email, running Microsoft Office products and keeping your photographs organized.I like this computer for someone needing a basic machine to put in a spare room or a student needing to write papers and work on smaller projects. Definitely recommend if you need the basics.
