A ‘must have’ for anyone who makes candy, jam or marmalade. I was replacing a ten year old thermometer (same model) as the numbers had been scrubbed or boiled off the old one. Very accurate tool - my jams and marmalades are successful because of this kitchen tool!
Works great! Just make sure the clip is nice and secure because it can easily flip off if not!

Fundamental design flaw - the clamps that hold the glass thermometer against the frame are not secure - and become even looser when they get oil in them. This means the glass thermometer can slide up and down about 20mm relative to the temperature markings - which means the temperature reading can be off by about 20degC.Also, the clip is really fiddly.
I bought this candy thermometer from the Walmart at 9427 culebra ( at culebra and tezel) I was so happy that I could finally make candy caramel chews since they required a thermometer for accurate results. Well the first time I used it was great! Caramels came out perfect! ... I used it again the next day to make more to give away. All of a sudden it doesn't work properly *head scratch-confused look* I'm thinking what's going on the dial stopped moving!? And I paid $8 for this!!! I am so crushed and unhappy about it, now I have to do more research on reliable brands. I can't trust Walmart brand a second time after this
