It lasts about 4 weeks and you just unwind and attach to his neck - cutting off any extra length if it's too long. The product itself claims to provide reassurance to my dog in stressful situations. Not for major anxiety

I've now had this collar on for several weeks and while it made no difference at all for major anxiety episodes like a visit to the vets (my dog's all time most hated place) or during thunderstorms (we've had 3 now since she had the collar). She was as anxious as ever during those things and had to be placated in other ways (she won't even take a treat when she's that anxious) like very close cuddling, lots of talking and petting. However, I did notice that she was better with visitors and not nearly as anxious when a dog came to visit and ran all around her yard or when workman came to do a job at the house. Also she seemed a bit calmer when walking down the road when cars and a bicycle passed. I suspect as long as she's at home in an environment she feels ... MoreI've now had this collar on for several weeks and while it made no difference at all for major anxiety episodes like a visit to the vets (my dog's all time most hated place) or during thunderstorms (we've had 3 now since she had the collar). I suspect as long as she's at home in an environment she feels relatively safe in, the collar will add a small degree of extra comfort to her. For bigger anxiety issues medication might be called for (at least that's what my vet tells me), or maybe for thunder a thundershirt would help (I only tested the collar). It was very easy to use - no scent and no residue on the hands, and slipped right over her head, tightening up quickly and easily. She doesn't like clothes but didn't mind the collar at all and doesn't seem to notice it as it is relatively thin and innocuous and tucks neatly under her normal walking collar. I would certainly consider getting this again for a trip away, but not sure it's suitable, given the high cost, for regular wear, and for super high-anxiety situations or a highly anxious dog, it's probably not going to make an appreciable difference on its own.

I've been using the Adaptil Transport spray successfully for several years with my dogs, but I'd never thought to try a collar as their need seemed to be now and then rather than a constant.I trialled this collar on my two dogs a 5y/o, 75kg female Dane x Bull Arab and 5y/o, 35kg female Staffy x Cattle Dog.1/ Dane xThe Medium/Large (70cm) collar comfortably fits her 63cm neck, with just a tiny tab left at the end. I didn?t need to trim any excess off the end.Day to day, she shows signs of low grade anxiety and jealousy, which I attribute to abandonment/attachment issues as a pup (by the time I got her at 12 weeks old, she had already had four owners). Although she stops when told to (put into a sit/stay or drop/stay) she does have a tendency to bark when I leave her, and when I give my attention elsewhere, particularly to other people or dogs. She is terrified of thunder and uneasy about other loud noises. The differences in her behaviour wearing the collar were apparent almost immediately. Her nervous barking at any minuscule noise or movement has all but stopped. Her focus in obedience tasks is better, I think because she is calmer and more relaxed. She is still clearly afraid during storms and still barks, but far less so, presumably because she has the influence of the Adaptil from the start, rather than from when I first hear a clap of thunder.2/ Staffy xDay to day, she shows moderate signs of anxiety; she was hit by a former owner, attacked by other dogs on more than one occasion, and although she has spent far more of her life with me than anywhere else, she is still quite fearful (e.g. there are times when you move the wrong way, lift a hand too fast, and she literally screams in fear.)She is certainly less anxious wearing the collar, but it is not nearly as effective on her as on my Dane.General feelings - clearly its effects are going to differ from dog to dog, but for a non-invasive approach that has the potential to make an enormous difference, I?d definitely recommend it as worth a try.Disclaimer: I was gifted a product sample to trial and review

The Adaptil calm collar claims to provide dogs reassurance, is clinically proven, veterinary used and recommended and provides up to 4 weeks of constant support. I was eager to try this on my dog to see if there would be any noticeable difference in his behaviour when being outdoors. He can be somewhat anxious when there are other big dogs around that can cause him to react. The collar and its instructions on the box were very easy to follow. Just need to pop the collar on around my dog's neck and adjust to fit then cut off the excess- simple! Now it was a waiting game. For those saying it didn't work, I was skeptical but knew it may take a few days or weeks for it to really show as he got used to it and the warm of his skin activated the collar to release that ... MoreThe Adaptil calm collar claims to provide dogs reassurance, is clinically proven, veterinary used and recommended and provides up to 4 weeks of constant support. For those saying it didn't work, I was skeptical but knew it may take a few days or weeks for it to really show as he got used to it and the warm of his skin activated the collar to release that synthetic copy of a dog's pheromone. As expected, I didn't notice any real changes in the first few days as we went about our normal routine. The only time the collar was removed was for baths. However, as time went on, and we went outdoors for our usual walks, spotting big dogs along the way, he would somewhat get anxious as he always does, but with a slight improvement and was easier to calm and manage. I think given the right circumstances, you can definitely notice an improvement. I wouldn't say it completely eliminates their fears/stress but it definitely helps manages it! Depending on your expectation of this product. I personally thought there was improvement overall and hopefully aid in changing his behaviour long term with continued use. I was gifted the product sample to trial and review.

Under the right circumstances can help a little

I've been using this collar for a week now - and I'm afraid I've really put it through its paces. After 3 days my dog went to her all-time highest anxiety place - the vets - for her annual vaccination. I didn't notice any difference at all - she was still terrified and whined and had to be muzzled for the vax. But last year I tried tranquillisers at the vet's suggestion and they also had no effect so her anxiety would likely override anything. She is also a nervous walker and always pulls over and won't budge when a car goes by (which makes for a slow walk). That has also not changed. However, I have noticed that she's somewhat more relaxed with strangers and jumps a bit less, and settles a bit faster which is an improvement. I will also say that I have a Cattle Collie and she's particularly anxious anytime she's outside the house. The impact on other dogs may well be more significant.

Unfortunately not for our dog

Our 6-year-old Pekingese dog has always been a fairly calm dog when at home, but has always struggled with being around other dogs and becoming overly excited during walks. In an effort to help our dog with these issues, we decided to try the Adaptil Collar.Adaptil claims to use a synthetic version of the comforting pheromone that a mother dog naturally emits to her puppies to help calm dogs and reduce their anxiety. We were hopeful that this collar would help our dog feel more comfortable and relaxed when around other dogs and during walks. However, after using the collar for a period of time, we did not see any significant changes in our dog's behavior. While it had some positive effects, they were not enough to completely alleviate my dog's stress and anxiety. If you are considering this product, I would recommend trying it out and seeing if it works for your furry friend. However, if you are looking for a more effective solution for your dog's stress, you may want to consider other options.** I was gifted a product sample to trial and review**

Our elderly dog Jock is a Maltese Shitzu he is 13 years old and half blind and partially deaf.He is terrified of storms strong winds and very loud noises where he cowers inside close as possible to us . usually under our feet and is a real tripping hazard.he also hides behind our couch and is constantly shaking.Since i placed the ADAPTIL Collar for small dogs we have noticed a huge change in his behaviour. He is very calm even when there is thunder our other dog no longer becomes distressed for Jock and he is a different dog. We are able to leave him alone without the worry he will panic and take off and get lost.We also noticed that he is calm all the time now instead of always looking for us as he is nearly deaf an blind so it is such a relief for us knowing ... MoreOur elderly dog Jock is a Maltese Shitzu he is 13 years old and half blind and partially deaf.He is terrified of storms strong winds and very loud noises where he cowers inside close as possible to us . usually under our feet and is a real tripping hazard.he also hides behind our couch and is constantly shaking.Since i placed the ADAPTIL Collar for small dogs we have noticed a huge change in his behaviour. He is very calm even when there is thunder our other dog no longer becomes distressed for Jock and he is a different dog. I was a bit skeptical that a little collar would work but the difference in Jock was amazing i would definitely recommend this collar for all dogs.I was gifted a product sample to trial and review.
