A couple of flaws - Gotta buy new laces

I have really mixed feelings about these shoes. They are great in most ways, but have a couple of flaws that nearly lead me to return them.First is a minor flaw that actually can be problematic for certain situations: The black-colored shoes show dirt like nobody’s business. If you wear these anywhere other than on pavement, they make you look like you just stepped out of the fields. It is bad enough that I feel self-conscious going into restaurants after going on a hike. Duh, that is exactly when I am feeling ready for some nourishment. The other combination problem is a near fatal flaw for me: The shoe laces are the worst I have ever had. They will not stay tied, even when I double-knot them! This is coupled with a bizarre top pair of too-small eyelets that set up a lace pattern that is quite difficult to get properly tensioned. Plus, the infernal slippery laces are too long, so if I only use one pair of the eyelets, then the laces drag on the ground. If I use both sets of eyelets, then the lacing and tensioning is a pain.Getting and keeping these properly tied is such a chore that I bought new laces off Amazon as a last ditch effort before returning them to REI. Thankfully that seems to have worked, but it seems Adidas botched this very fundamental part of the design.

Bought these as a replacement for my Terex Swift R3s.Initial thoughts are positive. Have worn them on three walks, great fit, nice solid sole, great grip.Although they are true-ish to size, I'd probably order a half size bigger than you normally wear, as with the Gore-tex liner, they can feel quite snug, especially with thicker socks.I'm normally a 10.5 in Adidas, gone for an 11 with these, and they're perfect.Very happy with the purchase so far, and would recommend.

Excellent buy

Really comfortable for all day wear, breathable and waterproof with the Gortex lining. Super grippy on the wet trails or scrambling in the hills with the Continental grip sole! The adidas website recommends buying a half size bigger which I did and they were spot on as they fit perfect usually a size 9 but bought a 9.5! And in fairness they look pretty awesome too!

Feel like wearing clown shoes
19 January 2024

I bought the size that fits me with all brands I wear, Asolo, Merrell, Vasque, Garmont, and more. The Terrex are oddly shaped, unlike those brands. In my size the length seemed ok, but the shoes were exaggeratedly large and floated around my feet. Even with laces as tight as possible, I could not get them snug, tight lacing would only result in weird uneven pressure points. My feet would hurt from all the movement around my feet and I could not wear them.

Perfect in every way
19 October 2022

I’ve worn a variety of Adidas in size 13 for 25+ years but with all the sizing comments about this model, I wasn’t sure what to order. I went with my usual 13 and they’re fine - slightly snug but very comfortable and extremely supportive. Arch is exactly where it should be and toe room is adequate. For reference, I wear size 12D in J&M Melton oxfords, Bass Weejuns, Bates tactical boots and Red Wing work boots. I wear 11.5E in Justin Ropers and 11.5D in Alden 403 boots. After a couple weeks of wear, I’d highly recommend the AX4’s for overall quality construction and comfort with support. This was my first purchase from this site and I won’t hesitate to order from them again in the future.

These shoes deserve a good workout in difficult terrain!
19 July 2024

My previous pair of these AX4 Goretex hiking shoes (bought only recently) were given a good workout in often difficult terrain in Scotland, and I was so pleased with them that I bought this second pair. The shoes gave me great reassurance when balancing on slippery boulders across water (for example), and come at an excellent price. And compared to similar shoes from another supplier (which soon looked very tired), these cleaned up so easily and still look fab. I bought size 9.5 when I usually wear a 9, and there is plenty of room. Very pleased.

Versatile walkin' shoes with a wide forefoot
26 October 2023

These are very comfortable and durable. Great for hiking, but also nice for casual use. The black ones in particular are a good low-key look for city walking, without crazy colors that clash and draw too much attention. My feet have a wide last (the widest part of the foot) that makes a lot of hiking shoes uncomfortable, but these are plenty wide in the forefoot, unusually wide even. Overall, a great walkin' shoe.

Waste of money,
19 September 2024

Bought these in June and what an absolute disappointment they are worn most days 4 out of 7 I do lots of walking in all weather's and everytime I wear these trainers they leak like a seive, and wet feet are not pleasant especially when your walking up and down your local walking trails, the interior of the shoe has gone through exposing the inner carcass of the trainer the sole has almost gone through no tread to maintain traction, and the sole is so thin you feel every stone. These may be great for the urban jungle but for hill and delve absolute waste of money. Seems Adidas have gone for quantity over quality, think I'll stick to unbranded trainers at least they are true to what you buy not what you receive buying a premium marque. Seriously let down by a premium ... MoreBought these in June and what an absolute disappointment they are worn most days 4 out of 7 I do lots of walking in all weather's and everytime I wear these trainers they leak like a seive, and wet feet are not pleasant especially when your walking up and down your local walking trails, the interior of the shoe has gone through exposing the inner carcass of the trainer the sole has almost gone through no tread to maintain traction, and the sole is so thin you feel every stone. adidas Terrex AX4 GORE-TEX Mens

Pretty good, the orange tabs are more like the illuminous oranges and not just orange. Very really good. Used for a walk up the fells the other day, good strong grip on dry grassy soil path. Seemed excellent grip on wet rock when crossing a small stream. Seem sturdy and are fully waterproof in shallow water. I have only given a four for style due to the otange being very bright in real life.

very comfortable , excellent in extreme conditions
6 January 2024

Bought last month. Thankfully I did. So much rain. So dry feet. Very well constructed shoe. Looks good too. For such a robust shoe, very comfortable indeed. Especially compared to other brands. Will Def buy Adidas again. And definitely use sports direct. Thankyou.
