I am not one to write a review unless the product is excellent. I received these boots yesterday and immediately tried them on. They fit perfect. Not only are they incredibly true to size but I feel like I have a warm embrace on my feet! I like them so much I am going to buy another pair.

Comfy, warm, light but....

I love this boot but the black sidewalls lost their color and the white underneath is showing through. This does not look good and it looks like I walked through cement or something. This is my only critique of this boot, other than it might run .5 size short.

Excellent niche shoes for cold weather.

Adidas’s Terrex Free Hiker C.RDY excel for hiking in damp and cold climates, however for more normal hiking I would recommend another pair of hiking shoes. The strong points that this shoe offers when hiking in rain or snow can become pain points when hiking in hot summer days. Small disclaimer though, this is my first pair of cold weather hiking shoes, so features that might be standard among cold weather hiking shoes will be novel to me.The most novel aspect of this shoe is its internal sock and shoelace-less zip closure system. After hiking for 30 minutes, I realized that I didn’t need to break these shoes in as I would normal hiking shoes. The combination of the soft insole, lack of hot spots caused by traditional lace closure system, as well as its internal sock let me put it on and immediately start hiking.A novel problem caused by the zip closure system also introduced itself to me 30 minutes into my hike. Normal hiking shoes offer a degree of protection for the ankle by securing it against side-to-side movement, while allowing front-and-back freedom. The zip closure system on this shoe provides a great seal against the elements, however it also restricts your ankle’s mobility. On level ground this isn’t an issue, but when going up or downhill this becomes a noticeable pain point. Bending my ankle forward or backward is met with a slight resistance from the shoe itself. Imperceptible at first, it gradually became an annoyance a few miles in. This trade-off is why I mentioned that these shoes are very niche, yes they keep your socks dry and feet warm, but the mechanism that does so also slightly restricts ankle movement. In terms of weight and grip they are excellent, my friends also commented on these shoes for its style as well. All in all, a very solid pair of winter hiking shoes, especially in the PNW. Great for walking around town or hiking in the wet cold.

Great boot

My second pair. 1 for hiking 1 for working. Very comfortable. Love the zipper. You’ll get used to putting them on fast with the internal sock. No big deal. Hiked in 15° Weather no issue. Standing around maybe 35° is about max

Great for messy winter bicycle commuting!
19 January 2023

I purchased these boots specifically for the bicycle commuting that I would be doing going to and from work this winter season. It's been cold here in Iowa, but not arctic blast cold yet, so as of late, I was not fully convinced that the boots were really making a difference. That changed today on the ride home as a nasty, winter rain and sleet mix was coming down. I made it home (6.6 miles) without a wipeout and my feet stayed warm and dry. The outside of the boots were soaked, but no water got past the zipper closures. The Continental rubber outersole was also a benefit on the ice pellet coverd ground as I did not slip and fall during several dismounts when crossing intersections on the sidewalk. Buying these boots was money well spent. Thank you Adidas and REI!

Great insulated, waterproof boot!
24 September 2021

I am pretty impressed by these boots. The first thing you will notice is how easy these are to put on. For an insulated boot, this is an unusual feature. Simply slide your foot into the inner bootie and zip it right up. The zipper gave me no issues unlike many waterproof zippers. The next thing you will notice is the grip. These shoes have wonderful Continental Winter Grip soles, which really do grip quite nicely (although a bit squeaky right out of the box). I tried them out in the slipperiest place I could think of, a wet basement. The final (and maybe the most important) thing you will notice is that these boots are warm and waterproof. The finish is Gore-Tex, so it sheds water like a rain jacket, while still being able to breathe. I'd definitely recommend these ... MoreI am pretty impressed by these boots. Happy feet!
12 October 2021

I was skeptical about these boots without laces, but after using them for several weeks on varying terrain, I like them. These boots are comfortable right out of the box. No hot spots, no rubbing, just comfortable. Even without being able to tighten the laces, I feel my foot is secure and never had an issue, even with a 40 lbs pack and. I've used these on multiple hikes, and just walking the dogs around the neighborhood. No issues. It did take me a bit to get used to putting them on with the inner liner. Just something to get used to. The boots tested well in wet conditions, even standing in a lake, my feet were dry. I found that despite being waterproof, these boots were fairly breathable. I wore these on some 85+ degree days in NC and my socks were barely damp ... MoreI was skeptical about these boots without laces, but after using them for several weeks on varying terrain, I like them. Lightweight Shoes, great in cold weather and snow
2 January 2023

These shoes are awesome. When I read a lot of the other reviews, people said to go a half size up because it was tight. I was the opposite. I'm a size 10 1/2 in all ADIDAS shoes, but I ordered an 11 and it was a full size too big. I ended up in a size 10 and they are perfect! So it just depends but go with your whatever your size is and hey if you have to return them, do it. This shoe is worth it! REI had a great sale on them and I was fortunate they had a size 10 in stock. Great customer service, no hassle or questions with my return, and being a member has its perks!

Nice Boot
22 February 2024

I bought this boot awhile back and now have a few miles on them. They fit true to size, keep my feet warm and dry so far. They have good traction in snow and are easy to clean in muddy conditions.

You won't regret buying these boots
14 January 2024

The zipper combined with the inner mesh "sock" sleeve thing keep the heat in. They are great in the snow and grip better than any winter boots I've tried. They seem to be holding up well after 2 hard winters used as snow boots primarily.
