Great mic! Wonderful crisp, warm and natural vocals from this thing. I think I'll be using this mic on pretty much every project I do. 4 patterns, led overload, low noise... Buy It! You'll be happy you did.
I use the AKG for a bluegrass band. The three vocalist stand around the C314 and the fiddle player has a separate mic. The sound is outstanding! The guitar sounds awesome and the upright bass and banjo have never sounded better. The band interacts better with the shared microphone. Monitors are not used. I use the cardioid pickup setting with bass roll off.
This is the mic you buy when you you want great quality without going bankrupt to buy it. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of its C414 big brother, but it's way better than it's C214 little brother and gets the job done. I have a deep bass voice and need a mic that could pick up low frequencies without loosing the harmonic overtones. I did a bit of research first and tested a few mics before settling on this one.
I've worked with Neumann TLM 103s and 102s, AKG C414, Rode NTG 3 and Neumann U87 (all amazing mics) But I needed something on the side to bring home and make a stereo pair and decided to purchase 2 AKG C314s. To no surprise the microphone delivers exactly as advertised! The self noise produced is extremely low. It is not overly bright sounding if you are not a fan of very bright sounding mics. The build quality of the mic in this price range is amazing. As for Cons on the microphone I have none.In my opinion it does an outstanding job with vocals and foley. For instrumentals I recommend using 2 for a stereo sound. 10/10 Microphone
I think its got a nice transparent sound and works well with my Focusrite audio interface.
The AKG C314 is a great microphone, producing a true and detailed reproduction of the sound source. I have used it to record acoustic guitar and double bass, with great results. It is well constructed and appears to be durable. The included anti-vibration mount and foam windshield complete the package.
