I love this mic; it has great level (I don't have to turn the preamp up too high) and has an open, airy sound yet with depth. The one thing I wish was different (and why I took off one star) is that it has a sharp peak at 10 kHz which makes the audio, eg my vocal, VERY bright. And it's not a "crisp" bright - it's more of a "very focused" or sharp bright, if that makes sense. I could tame it with EQ but that would be annoying every time, so I accomplish it using a foam wind sock (foam pop filter that slips over the mic). I'm a bit disappointed in the sound quality. I have a cheaper mic with a fuller bass nicer midrange and crispier high with this MXL 990 .This AKG P220 I don't know if this is new, used and been dropped several times. I watch a few reviews on youtube and they look and sounded pretty nice but again youtube is full of scum bags who promotes mic products but actually using like a Neumann U87 mic instead of what they are reviewing and get kick backs for doing fake reviews..

Given the current conditions in education, I have found it necessary to purchase equipment that is better than the district supplied webcam microphone so I can be better heard by my choral students. I chose this mic because of decent reviews I read online and the price. I what I have found is that is sounds way better than the cost suggests.As a condenser microphone, it is pretty sensitive. I do frequently turn my head from the mic (n00b move, I know) but I still am able to be heard and understood.I only use this as a vocal mic and am quite pleased with it's performance. My voice sounds natural and crisp. I don't use a pop filter and the T's and P's and S's seem to be under control.My only complaint is the weight of the mic and the shock mount. I occasionally ... I think the only thing was a loss of clarity in the 5 kHz range comparatively. Turns out that works very well for baritone ranged singers. Iíll keep the AT 2035 on my tenor and alto singers. At this price range it is tough to find something with a perfectly flat response without some coloring, but itís really about finding the cheap mics with the right color (frequency response curves) that fit your application. This microphone is great. It's uber sensitive but also has a lot of options (low pass, increased/decreased db etc...) to tweak to your recording spec. I use it primarily as a vocal mic but could absolutely dial in acoustic or electric guitar [amp]. Looks killer too! The stand/dock can be a bit fiddly but totally fine once you get the knack of it.Can't speak so informed on its 'frequency replication,' but sounds good to my ears!!!

Additionally, I got this microphone with the included Aluminum Carry Case, the included Spider Shock Mount, but, also included was the Auray SSM-UM22 Suspension Shock Mount (also using the same basket mounting).I use the Spider Shock Mount for my Live recording gigs with the AKG P220, but the additional included Auray SSM-UM22 Suspension Shock Mount would be perfect for use on a desktop hosts adjustable boom arm assembly. The complete package here for the AKG Project Microphone just screams professionalism, from its looks, all the way down to what it comes with.Case in point, most Large microphones either come with nothing to carry or protect the microphone in storage or transit, or a pouch. Whereas, the AKG P220 comes with a very nice aluminum carry case, well sized to carry and protect the heavy microphone, but also the Spider Shock mount. Some of these little details are why, I feel, the AKG just goes over and beyond when it comes to a feeling of professionalism in their product. I could name a lot more of these details, but will only give you a taste. The Spider shock mount rubber bands are easily removed, replaced, and are stocked items for ordering. The mounting for the AKG P220 microphone uses a quick tightening ring at the bottom of the Suspension Shock Mount, or the included Spider Shock Mount basket to allow quick and easy set ups and tear downs.And lets face it, you set ANYONE in front of this microphone, they can't help but feel you've placed them in front of the best you can offer.
