I also find the chin strap to be awkwardly close to my neck making it somewhat uncomfortable after a while of riding. Another thing I would like to point out: There is no DOT sticker on the helmet even though the description states that it is DOT certified

I ordered this helmet for a Christmas gift for my husband, he loved it. He did mention it's a little snugger than other brands he has had in the past. He also mentioned the mouth guard was a little slime ,but he was excited to try it out

I’ve had this for a few months now — wearing it 5-6 days a week on average. I’m extremely satisfied with this helmet. It’s super lightweight and the simple yet bold design makes me look and feel like one of the pro’s.

Great helmet minus the visor design. I lost Visor on first ride during an enduro event within the first 3 miles. Livelaps RFID is placed on visor for scoring and it messed my times up. It was new out of box. Fellow racers told me the Alpinestars helmets are notorious for this and to stay away from them. This was my first and will be last one ever purchase. Also can’t find a replacement visor for it to purchase.
Light weight, great visibility. The cheek pads were tight the first few rides but after the helmet fits awesome and feels great. Fits great with 100% googles.

Great design, just small for my head, measure your checks too around you ears and below you nose.Had to go with the O?Neal Compact, 2xl, not like street helmets at all.
so, I love the fit, the look, the weight. not very sure about all day use yet.the one thing that was driving me crazy is there is no DOT sticker, even knowing the description states that its both DOT and ECE approved. I was about to return it because I will be riding to the trails and I want a street legal helmet. Decided to contact alpinestars to clarify. turns out there is 2 versions of this helmet. an american version and a european version. as Canada now accepts ECE, we are only getting the ECE version and that does not have the sticker on the back. (the ece certification is on the chin strap )In short, I like everything about this helmet, but I wish it was clear in the description that it is not DOT.
Love the look and features of the helmet, but it is super tight! I ordered an XL at first and returned it for an XXL, but it is still tight. Almost impossible to get off my head. The liner breaks in over time, otherwise it looks like ride day headaches till I get a different helmet.RM was super helpful on the return.
I have worn nothing but fox v1, buy the weight of the v1 was just to much. This alpinestar sm5 is super light. At just under 3lbs. Great ventilation, fits large goggles no problem. Also looks awesome. 10/10 would definitely buy one tomorrow if something happened to mine today.
