A great boot for a big foot

These boots have been great so far. I ride an affrica twin and even in a size 15, the foot controls are easy to use. The break in period was short. I wore them around the house for a couple of hours and they were good to go. They are quite a step up from my old tech 3s for not much more money. I recimmend these boots for anyone looking to do moderate off road riding. I am sure they would do fine on the mx track as well but i wont be able to find out as the suspension on my bike is too soft to get on a track.

Awesome so far

I have worn Fox Comp forever; however, the new Comps are terrible. I know they are entry-level, but Comps of old were quality compared to the cheap junk they are now. I needed to try something different as a result. Hands down, these boots are awesome right out of the box. My main concern is the plastic primary buckle component. The Tech 7s and up are metal and seem to be of better quality. Pros and cons, give and take with cheaper boots I guess. In addition to some biomech-hinge properties, this is one of the difference that I noticed between the 7s and up. They still work the same and seem to be designed to be just fine down the road. The difference in the toe box is visually noticeable compared to my old boots; however, the smaller toe box allows for easy shifting/braking without squeezing my feet whatsoever. The calf size is a bit large for me, but my knee cups fit well, and it is not a problem at all with my OTB pants. I actually had to send my first pair back because they were way too big. I went down a size which is contrary to some of the other reviews. I cannot rate durability since I have only had them for a couple of weeks and have only worn them once. However, I have a bother and a couple of friends who have AS and love them for their features and durability. I have no reason so far to feel that I will not also be a believer as well.-m-2019 KTM 350 XC-F--

These boots fit perfectly without any need to break in!! Love the different colors too!! Very light and plenty of protection!! As comfortable as the Tech 3's, and just as light feeling!! I highly recommend these, and then if you wanna really step up, skip the Tech 7's and get the Tech 10's

Great Boots
21 April 2021

I have used a few pair of cheaper boots in the past, but I know the value of a good boot so I decided to step up to the Tech 5's and I love them. They're super comfortable right out of the box and have gotten better as they've broken in. I've don't ride too hard, but I've been riding in these for about a year and they're holding up great so far. No regrets.I wear a size 10, have Md/Wide feet, Md/Lg calves, and wear Leatt Knee/Shin Guards under these boots. I couldn't stuff any more into them, bet they close just enough and buckle up just fine. I would buy these again.2008 Yamaha WR250FOff-Road

Great booties! Can ya see me now?! Matches 4 colors on the '84 CR-500R
18 March 2020

Purchased as extra set (do I need 4 pairs of boots??) because of the decent price reduction. A former Fox and TCX rep, I started preferring my Tech 7's over others because they felt lighter (and looked good/ matched my gear and bike). But for me, just a bit too narrow which really caused a bad pain on the right pinky toe area. The Tech 5's are a bit wider and have eliminated the pain completely. Plus, they feel lighter (have not compared weight yet) and surely are as they are a level/price down, so more plastic, less leather (if any). For AHRMA 60+ Expert classes on my '84 CR-500R, they're all I need. Finally a great fit!! And under $200 (sale price)!

Great for woods riding

Picked these up for an upgrade in protection versus the logger work boots I used to wear while trail riding. The switch definitely takes some getting used to, and it took a few rides (and getting soaked a couple times) to break them in. Very very stiff out of the box, but now I can comfortably wear them all day. Size 9 fit well and is my typical boot size. I have average width feet, and these are snug on the width. Not uncomfortably so, but I could see people that normally need extra wide shoes may have an issue there. They shrug off minor splashes and mud OK, but if you're riding really soggy terrain your feet will slowly get damp, and these boots take ages to dry out, all the padding soaks up a lot of water. They're not vented and do get warm on hot days, but ... MorePicked these up for an upgrade in protection versus the logger work boots I used to wear while trail riding. They're not vented and do get warm on hot days, but really what boot doesn't?They're super supportive and feel like you could punt a bowling ball as easily as a pillow. You can flex your ankle a bit front to back, essentially just enough to walk more or less normally and use the shifter/brake. Side to side, nothing. Not going to be rolling an ankle in these things. Feel a lot more confident sticking my foot out around corners of if I have to dab going through the gnarly stuff. Adjusted the shifter up a click, and after about 10 minutes forgot about the initially clumsy feel of shifting.Compared to a couple bargain boots I tried as a local dealer, these are far far nicer. Much better padding inside, buckles are sturdier, overall a lot nicer product. Sharp looking also.Great all around boot for people that don't need the full pro level features of the tech 8/10. It would be nice if they were offered with a "off road" lug sole as the 3s are, but it's not a deal breaker.

Great value
28 May 2024

Went back and forth between the tech 5s and 7s. Chose the 5s based on price at the time as both felt great on the feet. These are extremely comfortable to the point where I feel I could walk a long way if I had too with no issue. Now, I ride a ktm, so I’ll end up walking back to my truck at some point 😂.They fit to the size you are used too. I am a size a 11 and fit like a glove. The other big thing I noticed is how well they go around my knee braces and hold them in place compared to my old boots. Knee braces can move around a bit regardless of how much you adjust them, no need with these boots.I’d buy them again.-Ryan

Really good boots for east coast hare scrambles

My 15 YO faster-than-me son says that initially these boots took some getting used too since the soles felt taller than his old traditionally soled moto boots. However, after a few rides he really fell in love with them. I rode in them a couple times and enjoyed their comfort. I typically wear a mid-width 9.5-10 and these 9.0s don't feel too tight. So I would order these for myself in a 9. Really like the buckles and build quality, the soles seem durable and stay on the pegs, really good shifter feel, but a bit awkward to walk in for me. You kind of roll from heel to toe like with ski boots which makes me nervous about hyper extension of my 50 YO old knees when wearing them w/out my knee braces. So I absolutely wear my knee braces with these - which makes walking much less worrisome. These boots also interface well with my Leatt Z-braces. No issues there. Only gripe I have is that there seems to be no cushion at the achilles area above my heels and that feels a little uncomfortable there, thicker socks or taping my ankles would solve that, which I should probably do anyway. He also reports that they stay pretty dry if you aren't crossing knee high creeks and he has good grip on the bike.

Still hopeful
16 November 2021

The fit out of the box is spot on for me. I find them very comfortable to wear while riding. Regarding initial flexibility: they are stiff out of the box. Walking is similar to ski boots so far. My first ride, I found myself missing shifts and not being able to feel the rear brake petal at all. I'm really hoping it's just a matter of breaking them in and getting used to the feel. I rode like I'd never seen a motorcycle before. Went home, threw my old Sidi's on and had no further issues. Fingers crossed!

I couldn't decide between Tech 5 or Tech 7 boots, I tried both on and comfort and fit felt exactly the same to me. Because I'm not a competitive rider I decided that the 5's would be good for my needs and about 100 dollars cheaper. I didn't need the extra articulation of the double hinged ankle on the Tech 7's, and the only other feature I noticed on the 7's over the 5's is the buckles on the 5's are plastic and on the 7's they're metal. I don't think it's going to make any difference for me. I tried on Fox Comp 5 & Comp 8, O'neill, Ansr, and Thor boots before going with the Alpinestars. I'm very happy with my purchase so far. The only complaint I have is that the toe box is bigger than it needs to be for my feet. The large toe area makes them comfortable to wear having lots of toe wiggle room, however it makes it hard to get my toe under the shifter on my quad. Hopefully as they break in more this problem will go away, otherwise I'll have to adjust the shifter or get a longer one that my foot will fit under while wearing these boots. The only reason I didn't rate the durability is because I haven't had them long enough to see how long they will hold up in the long term, however I've heard they'll last a few years if taken care of. I gave 3 out of 5 for value because there are a lot of cheaper options out there, if the cheaper boots fit you then by all means save your money. For me, the Alpinestars were the only boot that fit comfortably. I also really like the buckle system and the look. My pair is all black with white Astar logo and I think they look great.-m-2007 YAMAHA RAPTOR 700--
