My first Altra shoes were Paradigm 6. These Provisions do not have as much cushion as the Paradigm, but are still REALLY close! The shape is wonderful for the toes. I did add some arch support, but not full orthotic inserts as the toe box was not as roomy as the Paradigm. They are wear-all-day comfortable, and I love the blush color for spring and summer! They also have plenty of flexibility in the front of the shoe for rising onto your toes! The fit in length and width was consistent with my previous Altras. I do wish they had a deeper heel lock position in the lacing.

I purchased these shoes and immediately on trying them on I felt pressure on the sides of my toes. I had bunion surgery 10 years ago and it's important to me to have enough room to spread my toes. I've been wearing only altras to run for 5 years and these are the narrowest shoes I've tried. The bottom of the shoe is foot shaped but the upper is slim and the same width from the mid foot to the toe box. No room for my toes to splay! They hurt right away. Such a bummer, I was shocked that these aren't even the Slim fit. I wish Altra had more wider toe box options, I will try some other altras but am considering looking for a different brand going forward.

I have been looking for shoes like these ever since I started to get bunions (ugh) about 10 years ago. The ball/toe area of my foot is wider than normal but the rest of my foot is average width, so shoes were always too loose (lots of rubbing) or they squashed my toes together. With these, my toes have enough room at last! I love that there is also more padding under the ball of my foot, because I would also get pain here when running or walking in other shoes. I even lost five pounds since getting them a few weeks ago because I am moving around more again. They are very slightly on the bigger side size-wise - I got an 8 1/2 and am usually 8 1/2 or 9 depending on the brand. But they are comfortable!

I began my experience with Altra in March with the Provision 5 after running my first half marathon. Shin splints were reoccurring despite regular training and recovery. I have wide feet, so a sales rep recommended Altra shoes for their wide toe box. My only qualm with the Provision 5 was the tongue moved around way too much, and I had to stop during my runs to adjust it, but my shin splints went away! The Provision 6 has been my shoe of choice to train for my first marathon. It has all the stability and comfort of the 5 with the added bonus of a stable tongue. I've been incredibly pleased with their performance. They grip the ground really well and after a few uses, the high heel covering gets softer. Can't wait to see how they do on race day!
I have been a devout provision shoe wearing for the last 3 years! I go through 6+ pairs a year just in my base miles. I love that I can get a new pair, put them on and run a 16+ mi long run, no brake in required because they fit my feet perfectly, guve the perfect amount of support and are all around amazing! The lacing system on the inside of the arch means you can adjust exactly how much supper you want/need there. The tow box has support but never runs or cramps your feet and the heels are a dream! I can't recommend them enough! Also they are super light weight! Once they are too beat up to run in they become my walking shoes, then my dirty chore shoes. I hate to let them. Walk to run to Altra's website and buy a pair or 3 to stock up!!!!
Altra has been my go to shoe because of their wide toe box. A shoe design that actually follows the shape of your foot is awesome. I decided to try the Altra Provision running shoe and not totally happy. This shoe runs small in both length and toe width as compared to other Altra shoes, which makes this shoe uncomfortable for me. It fits well in the heel area and the heel strike cushioning is good. Also the tread seems to be wearing well, but too early to tell since they are only a few weeks old. I would not buy this model again due to the toe box issue, but I love Altra shoes because of their shoe design.
Ugh! I love everything about this shoe EXCEPT the guide rails. They hurt my arches so badly! Usually I have trouble finding shoes that have enough room for my toes (bunions and morton's neuroma) These have so much toe room! Plenty of cushion and I love the 0mm drop. I have never felt a shoe like this before. So utterly disappointed that the guide rails ruin it all for me. I took a chance since they were at an awesome discounted price, but now I am back to the drawing board. I don't have exceptionally wide feet so I'm not sure why they hurt so much. Hoping other styles without guide rails go on sale so I can hopefully find the shoe I have been searching for.
After being pleasantly surprised by the fit and feel of this shoe, I felt compelled to write a review - especially where it's both an incredible value at the time of my purchase (just after Black Friday 2022), and given my experience in trying to find shoes that fit well, and look good (sometimes, you can have one, but not the other).Which is to say: this was my "backup" choice, and I did not have high expectations. I originally purchased (full-price) the Via and Provision 7 from a popular site that sells shoes, as I view quality footwear as an investment in my health, and I really like a gray colorway (even though a running store specialist cautioned me years ago to focus on function over aesthetic, but...I still like pretty things). I'd also ordered the Torin and the Lone Peak hiker with this order, yet knew I'd only want to keep one.I had reservations about this particular model given that it seemed (by Altra standards) narrower than other picks, and while I've got a slim heel, I have a wide toe splay, plus mild bunions (not severe enough to warrant surgery; wearing foot-shaped shoes has been fine enough to not exacerbate the issue). I also intend to start running again between now and the spring, and wanted something that could help support the transition. For context: I'm coming off a well-worn pair of Escalantes (I believe the model is 2.5?) - my first pair of Altras; I weight train in Merrell Gloves, classic Vibrams and Luna sandals - which recently started to cause shin pain as I'd worn through the cushioning over the past 15 months. Not bad, given that I go between 2 and 3 miles, sometimes up to 5, plus occasional errands, daily. I'm also fairly dense - petite, but muscular, and weigh approx. 140 pounds at 5'4" and 40 years old - which I think can contribute to how quick a person goes through a shoe. All of which is to say: I'm impressed. My feet feel supported, but not overly so (maybe some prefer the ultra-cushioning and associated height of the Via, but...definitely not for me); there's spring and bounce, but naturally so, and not forced. I also feel balanced in both posture and gait. It was fabulous, too, that I was able to stick with my normal size 8 - once I find a brand/style I like, I tend to stick with it and simply reorder when the time to do so comes. It can be frustrating when a company "improves" its form...and takes away the things that made it great to begin with. These just arrived today, and so I'll be taking them to the street tomorrow for my first jaunt; my review is based on the gleeful dance I've taken through my living room. But, again: I'm so thankful I was able to score a pair of well-priced sneakers - even though I was willing to spend twice as much - that will tide me through the start of 2023, and possibly just beyond. (And, really: I have no affiliation with Altra; I'm just a person who is thankful to have discovered the brand after years of trying/searching for something like this (zero drop, but cushioned).)P.S. - Why four stars instead of five? Well, make it more like 4.5: I wish there were more neutral colorways. If you look at the men's version of this style, there are some softer shades that I would have opted for first - particularly the sand and/or pale gray. Pure white is not for me, but the navy I opted for will do just fine. Thanks for reading! Hope it helps.
I am always looking for a good stability shoe and usually rotate between Brooks Adrenaline GTS and Hoka Arahi's but I could never use one of those regularly without alternating. Then I tried these and although there is less padding than those other two, the shape of the toe box and the build of the sole makes it easier feel how im landing while running. I've used these exclusively and haven't needed to rotate shoes so far !I did get another pair of this model in another color ( so I could have an indoor and outdoor pair ) and took them out for a long run and something is wrong with the left. It feels like the arch is in the wrong spot or the build is wrong. I didn't notice at first but about 3-4 miles in , the outside of my left foot felt bruised and the next day I ... MoreI am always looking for a good stability shoe and usually rotate between Brooks Adrenaline GTS and Hoka Arahi's but I could never use one of those regularly without alternating. Since I have this exact model in another color, I know it isn't how the shoes are made, something is defective in this left one.
I LOVE Altras - I have Lone Peaks, Torin Plush, and Timps. I needed a replacement for my Torin Plush since they are getting run down after 250+ miles. I ran a half marathon in them and got blisters so felt that I need more of a stability shoe. I went with these after a lot of research (and buying and hating the Brooks Adrenalines). I immediately loved the feel of these when I put them on! They felt fantastic! I could tell that the guardrails were also going to be good for me. In the first day, I ran a 7 mile run (probably too much, but it was a gamble). I LOVED them...up until 5 miles. They felt faster, more nimble and stable than my Torin Plush's but I started getting HUGE blisters around mile 5 on a strange area of my foot that I don't normally get blisters in. ... MoreI LOVE Altras - I have Lone Peaks, Torin Plush, and Timps. They felt faster, more nimble and stable than my Torin Plush's but I started getting HUGE blisters around mile 5 on a strange area of my foot that I don't normally get blisters in. The blisters were on both sides inside my foot between the arch and my toes. I inspected the shoe and found a couple potential issues: 1) the removeable sole is too wide for the shoe bed (I may end up cutting it) and 2) the fabric mesh on top of the shoe creases right there pinching anything nearby smashed between the mesh and the sole of the shoe. These appear to be design flaws and I'll just have to find a way to deal with them weather it be with using KT tap, cutting the sole, or some other solution. Such a shame, but it's a great shoe. I bought them to train for my next half marathon but it looks like it'll be a long road ahead of managing these issues.
