Convenient, efficient, “smart” control!!

The grandparent and grandkids owe much of their relationships the past year to devices I’m such as the Echo.Again, it’s easy to set up, especially if you already have the Alexa app, as we do. Light and cameras go into different zones or rooms, grouped so they are easily and quickly controlled. Too, it integrates perfectly with my non Amazon smart devices (such as my doorbell camera), so I don’t have to juggle multiple apps. My doorbell cam displays perfectly on my Echo 10, for example.I decided to place the Echo Show 10 in the kitchen, thinking mostly that the video and hands free operation would be most useful where the food is being prepped, and it’s perfect for us there. No more do we have to touch our phone to see a recipes, touch food, forget a step, was our hands and reawaken our phone (over and over). Now the recipe is constantly available visually on the Echo Show, and Alexa and help answer any question like “Alexa how much salt did you say I need,” with the convenience I have when my mother in-law is actually with me in the kitchen. To the Smart Display with motion will actually follow you around as you move about (a function that you can turn off with the flip of a switch, if you’re concerned about privacy.) This feature is particularly useful during online virtual meetings as you aren’t tethered in one spot, but can instead multitask while meeting with work or friends. The speaker is obviously much larger than what was in the Echo Show 5, and while I was happy with the previous versions sound quality, the Echo Show 10 is vastly better, offering deeper, filler sound, and louder too. It’s fun to follow along with the lyrics of sounds on the screen, and adjusting the volume is as easy as telling Alexa, “sound up,” or “volume 4,” or whatever. She’s a very clever girl, this Alexa.Other things I love and use constantly are weather reports, alarms, and photos reels. And really I’m just scratching the surface, as the Amazon Echo Show 10 seems to be endlessly functionable. I obviously recommend, and am excited to see what Amazon comes up with next to improve and simplify my life!

But although it has a bigger screen and bigger speaker, it doesn’t live up to its design and potential. The motion is choppy and the screen following is poor. You can ask “Alexa, motion off”; and it would reply “motion is now off” but the screen would still move. Repeat this about 4-5 times and motion MAY really be off. Screen following is the same way. Wake word sensitivity is poor. Sometimes you have to shout at it to wake it. This is opposite of the 8, which you can whisper to it and it would whisper back Often I would say “Alexa” in the kitchen and the ones in the bedrooms would answer instead. prompting me to have to change the wake word for the ... MoreThe echo show 8 got my 5-star rating and I have one in each bedroom at home. Drifting off to sleep and saying “Alexa, lights off” only to remember: you are in the bedroom. Comical but annoying at the same time.Speaker is great. Better than the 8 for obvious reason. That and the bigger screen are still not enough to justify its price in term of value when compared to the 8, which is at a fraction of the price. The first one I brought home has the seal broken so I thought may be it was defective, so exchanged it for another one. Same problems. So looking like a design or software problem. Still debating if the better sound and bigger screen are worth the annoyances. May be the next generation would be better.

Nice Unit but There Are A Few Issues
15 October 2023

Where to I start... The screen rotation, to me it is more of a novelty than anything else. The screen does rotate towards your voice, problem is, it will eventually auto rotate back to its set point, but rarely does it actually stop at the screen's setpoint. I turned rotation off, don't miss it. One problem is that when the screen is at its set point it is not fixed meaning when you tap the screen anywhere outside of the middle point meaning the edges, it flips and flops back and forth by maybe a quarter inch.I also have an issue with the device understanding me. I upgraded from an original 2019 Show device, at that time, I don't think there even was a Gen 1, 2... but I will refer to the old device as Gen 1. I upgraded from an original 2019 Show device, at that time, I don't think there even was a Gen 1, 2... but I will refer to the old device as Gen 1. The Gen 1, with the TV on at normal volume it had no problems hearing me and executing my voice commands. With the Show 10, I have to repeat my commands multiple times and even have to yell at it to get it to do what I asked. I have WeMo lights that can be controlled by the Show 10, command to turn on a living room light is Livingroom on, when I give the command Alexa responds, which device, I say living room again, it still asks which device, so I yell at it living room and it turns on the light. Interestingly enough when I say Livingroom off from the bedroom (same device in living room), it works first time. With the TV on, and it's not that loud, I have to repeat 4 out of 5 voice commands. I talked to Show 10 support and asked why you don't have noise canceling incorporated into the device, they said that's a good question, maybe we'll put that in a future update.Enough complaining: larger screen is nice and colorful. The unit has some weight so where you sit it is where it stays. It has a lot of new features not in the Gen 1. Sound is good, camera is also decent quality and for those that are paranoid, it can be disabled with a slider that covers the camera. That's it, one final note, it would be nice if they dropped the price by $50 or so. Saying this because if you are upgrading from an older device, you are paying a premium, especially if your old device works as does mine.

Not for me.
3 January 2023

I ordered this as a replacement for my Echo show 5 and expected to be amazed. What I got was a slightly smarter and comically large screen that felt like the Alexa team made it "just because".On the plus side, the camera worked well enough and the feature that has the screen rotate to face you is nice! The latter has the exception of needing good lighting. The downsides are big enough that I ended up returning this to stick with my Show 5. First and foremost, the screen is just comically large. The bezel and huge base just make this thing way bigger than it really needs to be. The worst part about the size is that it really doesn't offer any functionality to justify that screen size. I have no idea why this isn't basically a kindle with apps and Alexa support.

You have to speak a secret ancient language and say "open sesame", "open silk" or something like that in order for it to work. No, native Youtube integration, so you're left with a web browser for watching Youtube videos. The family integration is broken and it took us literally hours to make it working at the bare minimum configuration. Full of bugs. Alexa stops responding to you after you choose "don't send my voice recordings to Amazon". Spotify integration is unreliable and stops working at random times. The Alexa app that comes with it is also quite complex piece of software that makes it a puzzle solving task to perform any simple operation. The whole ordeal was tortuorus.

Purchased and returned immediately. After spending 30 minutes setting up, it became apparent rather quickly that the device wouldn’t work for our home. To start, the software is not intuitive and has a very serious lag when trying to swipe down, access the quick controls, or touch any button on the screen. Additionally, the Netflix command wouldn’t work, the app itself won’t open and after reading reviews regarding this specific issue it became apparent this is a common occurrence on the Echo Show 10 specifically. When it came to auto-motion, I had to disable it because it kept moving AWAY from me, rather than with me. Not worth the money for an unresponsive device. This echo show 10, 3rd generation is by far their best one yet. You can link it to your Prime Membership account. With prime you get unlimited photo storage which you can view on your unit with daily memories. With prime you also get Amazon basic or Amazon premium music which of course you can listen to on your echo show. The speaker is a pretty decent speaker and it's really convenient to just tell Alexa that you want to listen to some music or you want to watch a movie. Like if somebody comes to the door my Blink DoorBell Cam will pick up the person when he rings the bell and then I will get a notification along with a sound on my screen telling me that someone is at the door. Then I can look over at the screen and decide if I want to open the door or not. lol and all your other blink cameras can be seen on the Echo Show. So there are many different things unit will do. And it's personalized to how you want to set it up. It remembers the music you were listening to before and all that. It has a very decent quality to what's being seen on the screen. And at night it shows the date and time but if the lights are turned off in your room or wherever you have it, then that display of time is visible but not bright at all. So I have mine next to my bed and if I wake up through the night I can look over and see the time and it's so dull of a light that it does not disturb your sleep. I mean I can go on and on about this unit it's well worth the money that you'll spend. It also has a motion thing where the screen will follow you wherever you are in a room when you're doing a video call. You can also disable that if you decide you don't want to use it. And also the camera on here can be a part of your blink camera's setup. You will not regret buying this. It makes no difference to me if you do or you don't. But there's so many different things that you can do that will keep you entertained with this Echo Show that make it well worth the investment.

Very good, but needs improvement in certain areas

Great little unit with a few minor gripes .- Microphone seems less responsive than the echo dot- motion detection is a bit of a joke. The light detection requires so much light that you might as well not turn on the lights when you enter the room.- YouTube works surprisingly well considering there’s no dedicated app- zigbee built in is almost worth it alone.- a little bit on the slow side, but is passable in responsiveness- no pdf reader is such a missed opportunity. All in all, it’s still a solid product. Would recommend for certain use cases
