Loveee my kindle. It took a while to arrive with multiple delays, but was worth the wait. It’s my first e-reader after being firmly a physical book person, but it’s perfect for travel and lightweight enough to comfortably read for hours. It doesn’t strain my eyes when I keep it in dark mode, and I am totally done w/ my reading slump and flying thru hundreds of pages thanks to this little guy. I paid the $20 fee on my amazon account to get rid of the ads. i also love that I can find new books and keep a list of them there, as well as access library ebooks on Libby. Would recommend this product 100%

Convenient Reading

This kindle is smaller than the one that I had years ago but the size is more convenient and just right to stick in a back pack side pocket or purse. Its smaller than the iPad mini. However, this could be an issue if you have bigger hands or farsighted but the font can be adjusted to accommodate the size of words. Love the night light for reading in the dark. The actual color is more of a mauve or dusty pink than plum. So far the battery life is decent, I have never really let the battery get below 75% before recharging. Not good at all for searching the internet, the response time is really slow and froze several times. Every thing is in black and white, unlike the previous version that I had which featured the book cover and other items in color so that is a ... MoreThis kindle is smaller than the one that I had years ago but the size is more convenient and just right to stick in a back pack side pocket or purse. I really do not understand how this has 4-5 starts from anyone. I was excited to give this a try going from reading paperback books. Anytime I try to use it, it's EXTREMELY slow and glitching. I am trying to purchase my first ever book and it won't even let me checkout because it keeps glitching and going to a white screen. Extremely dissappointed, waste of money. Can't even use it. I have had it for 2 months and this is 1st time trying to read a book and I can't because it won't work. Avoid at all costs.

Great reading experience
8 February 2022

I read 131 books last year using the Kindle app on my smartphone. It worked well, I always had a book or 3 on hand, and the bulky, poor battery e-reader experience I had a decade ago convinced me that my smartphone was an ideal reading device. I was wrong. I love, love, love the new Kindle Paperwhite for it's immersive, enjoyable reading experience. It is lightweight, feels well balanced in hand, and is easier to hold than my smartphone despite the sometimes awkward bottom power button placement. The screen is a joy to read with - clear, crisp text with infinitely adjustable brightness and tint. The softer light from the Paperwhite has actually helped my insomnia. If I wake up and read, it is much easier to drift back to sleep. I had my smartphone set to dark mode ... MoreI read 131 books last year using the Kindle app on my smartphone. If I wake up and read, it is much easier to drift back to sleep. I had my smartphone set to dark mode and didn't realize how much blue light it was still emitting, keeping me awake at night. The battery charge lasts for weeks and stands up to the challenge of a rigorous reading schedule. I love that I can queue up dozens of books to read and still have plenty of storage space for more. The ad-supported version isn't much of a bother, although the ads are tailored to your reading interests. I quickly figured out how to turn ad filtering on to keep the romance novels off the lock screen and keep it family friendly. I also set up the Household and Family Library to select books specifically for my kids to read. I can create a child account, manage their digital content, and hand the Paperwhite to them to read without worrying that they'll stumble into less age appropriate reading. I tried an Audible book with the Paperwhite, and it was simple to connect my headphones via bluetooth to stream the book. I felt like using the bluetooth consumed a bit more battery life and didn't see much advantage over using my smartphone, but it is nice to have the option. Overall, I am glad that I made the switch from smartphone reading to the new Paperwhite, it really, truly is a vast improvement in the reading experience beyond what I could have imagined.

Have mixed feelings about it
18 February 2024

I purchased this based on a NY Times review, and wished that they had mentioned my biggest pain point. The big selling points to me were the lack of ads without paying additional, the free cover, and, most of all the readability. I love the size, and readability, and the magnetic cover. However, I resent that Amazon requires you to review every book when you finish it. For a kids version, the reviews are unrealistic. It tells me why there are so many reviews for ebooks - if the reviews are required. I cannot find any way that I can skip the review (I won't review unless it's a book that I actually want to review) other than to restart the Kindle at the end of the book. While I like the cover, I do miss the cover that I had on my Fire tablet, which folded to become a ... MoreI purchased this based on a NY Times review, and wished that they had mentioned my biggest pain point. I'm Very Happy With My 10th Gen/8GB Paperwhite!
30 June 2022

It's small but I'm getting used to it and it's easy to hold. (I still lick my finger when I go to turn the page). I had to buy a cover for it separately. Also the charging on my computer takes forever so I used the power adapter for my cell phone so I could charge directly from the wall outlet instead of the computer and I get a faster charge. I'm happy with it. I am book junkie and this works for me. With kindle unlimited I'll never run out of something to read. The longer you read each day the more you will have to recharge, but for stop and go readers it lasts a long time. Get a cover so you don't bang it up or scratch up the screen like a cellphone. If I ever get another, I might like a little larger screen so I wouldn't have to turn the page so often. (Lot's of ... MoreIt's small but I'm getting used to it and it's easy to hold. All in all this is a basic paperwhite, easy to hold, exactly as pictured. I'm very happy with it!

Outstanding e-reader
26 January 2023

The new Kindle is a brilliant e-reader. It's fantastic for those who like to change the orientation and be able to select dark mode as well. It's lightweight, a perfect size for a handbag, has a thinner border and adjustable warm light, and because it's purpose-built for reading, it reads like real paper, even in sunlight. Great, therefore, for taking outside into the sun for a relaxing afternoon. I love the faster page turns as I'm a fast reader. Most impressive is the 10 weeks of battery life. Apparently, this version is now waterproof (for accidental immersion), but I haven't tested that theory as yet. Truly a fabulous purchase. I would recommend this to everyone who loves to read but enjoys the options of multiple books/magazines on the one device.

Review of AMAZON Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition 6.8" eReader - 32 GB, Black
1 May 2023

Good Points: I have had a Kindle since they were first launched a long time ago. I love everything about it being able to tale it on holiday and sit in bright sunshine for me is the best thing ever. I am an avid reader and this little machine is fantastic. At the last count I had over 100 books in my library.Improvement Points: I personally have no dislikes with Kindle. I was very nervous of it at first but soon got into the swing of using it. Perfect for me. I am 87 and not generally good with electronics but this gets full marks from me.

Slow but Decent
28 October 2023

For just being a tablet that allows reading and nothing else we're surprised at how slow the processor is, but it does work fine (noticeable when searching for books, scrolling up and down home page, loading book covers, lagging when changing pages etc). We don't love that the screen flickers when changing pages and especially on nighttime mode when it flickers white. We traded a Kindle Fire for the Paperwhite because we didn't want all the extra streaming/browsing options, but for doing only one thing the Paperwhite doesn't seem to have it down when compared to today's modern electronics.
