All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.' Drunken Mr Jones of Manor Farm has neglected his livestock for too long. In a burst of insurgent fervour they rise up and he is deposed, with the pigs taking charge of the newly named Animal Farm. Everything runs smoothly, productivity soars, and all animals are well-fed and happy. But the further away the memory of the revolution, the more distant seem its ideals-and when Boxer the workhorse is betrayed, the horrifying extent of the pigs' corruption is revealed. Orwell's 'fairy story', a scathing satire of Soviet communism, is as potent now as it was in 1945. Animal Farm is one of literature's most electrifying examinations of power and corruption.

A timeless story well worth a read despite being written in the 40's. Another very good quality book from WOB.

I had this book at High School and never forgot it. A satirical way of showing the difference between what is promised by Socialism and what is ultimately delivered. A must read for young people.

The problem is that I received the book with a different cover. I only bought the book because I wanted all the George Orwell Penguins with black covers (I already have Animal Farm in a blue-green cover)
This book is one of the best books I have ever read. its lack of pages don't hinder the messages and the story at all, loveable character that draw a lot of emotion from the reader, an easy to follow story which portrays very serious themes and problems in an easily comprehendible way for everyone and an overall good read for fans of literture
This writer uses fairly simple prose to tell a story with far-reaching implications for the nature of authority and how it functions in society. If you prefer a more advanced read, you may recognise the drawbacks of the writer's use of simple language. If you can get past that, then this is a quick read, a fun and clever story.
Brilliant story! Very up to date and gives political insight, not only from the point of view of the Russian system but all capitalist systems throughout the world. A very good read!
Steadman's images are perfect for this u have diatribe against communism. They also make the story accessible to much younger children although i think the youngest child i would give it to is 10.
I was hesitate to read this book at first - as it is a book I have heard conflicting reviews about especially growing up.However, after reading it myself - I can say with absolute certainty that it was worth the read. Admittedly I don't think I would have valued this book as much if it was asked of the younger me. However, as an adult I am was able to appreciate and understand the satire and the metaphors at a greater depth. For those who just want a light read to pass time, would recommend.
This and 1984 should be apart of school curriculum. Simple.
