One little USB-C port is not going to cut it. Enjoy full-speed pass-through charging while using with a cable capable of supporting 100W. Maximum input of 100W minus 15W for the hub's operation allows the hub to give your MacBook up to an 85W pass-through charge while using other functions.

Another high-quality product by Anker. Overall an excellent product and highly recommended. Pros: Build: Well built, very sturdy- casing for this hub is no different than other Anker products-sturdy and slightly matt finish giving the feel of an expensive and trustworthy product, even being a very slim hub (only 15mm thickness). Usage: with 7 ports, it makes it a Must-Have product for the current working-from-home situation due to Covid-19. I know multiple friends and colleagues who have bought this and very happy. Power Port (PD) is great to connect to the laptop firewire, HDMI to connect the monitor, multiple USB ports for Keyboard, Mouse, Headset and camera. Not to mention USB-C to charge mobiles. It is not an issue but due to lack of DTI or VGA connection to older monitors and Lack of LAN (RJ45 connection) I had to buy another hub to go with this Anker hub. It works fine with both hubs together. Maybe Anker needs to have a third version with a different combination. Overall: Well made product, been using for 5 months and zero complaints so highly recommended. Lifesaver for working-from-home. wouldn't have done without it.

We bought this for a friend that has a Macbook Air with only a single USB-C port. this meant she could not charge and access any accessories or external drives at the same time, and with a less than brand new battery charging is needed often or constantly. Most USB hubs allow data transfers but not power. When they do have 'powered' USB-C ports, many of them actually push power out of that port and don't specifically let it come in to the computer on that path (we found this out the hard way with other purchases and returns). Anker does it right, and this now lets our friend continually power her laptop, and access an external HDD full time. Game changer and saved her from suggestions by other people to just buy a new laptop (cost prohibitive right now).

The build quality of this is overall very good although the PD connector is ever so slightly misaligned so that inserting a cable is sometimes tricky and requires holding at a slight angle. Otherwise build quality seems excellent. *[EDIT] I’ve now tried this with a 30w/18w USB-C Anker 12v car charger and it passes charge power through to the iPad as expected. The previous charger I tried was an Anker 18w USB-C 12v car charger but for whatever reason it didn’t pass power through. I’ve tested the SD card reader, the micro SD card reader, the USB A/3 ports (with an external USB-3 spinning hard drive) and the USB-C data ports, all work just fine now. I can get iPad audio out through the USB-C port whilst simultaneously charging the iPad through the PD port. I’d say the only drawback is the cable is quite short and not swappable. *[previous review] The reason for 4 stars*[now 5 stars!] is that this does not pass power through to my iPad Pro 11” as I’d hoped, so you can’t use the hub and charge the iPad at the same time. On first connecting the charging spund emits abs the battery icon goes green but then a second layer it goes off. I tried with two different power sources (one standard 2.4a USB-A car charger, and one anker PD car charger delivering up to 9v/2a) to rule that out but no luck. It’s possible it will work on a mains charger but I haven’t tried that yet.

I'd just bought a Google Chromecast with Google TV, and I saw a YouTube video on the 'Tech with Brett' channel that retailer how to increase storage for the device and add peripherals. I bought the USB-C Hub, and it was exactly what I wanted. A couple of weeks later we went on vacation and wanted to take the Chromecast et al on vacation sowe could watch our own stuff. The Chromecast worked, but didn't recognise the external storage. After a few weeks of tearing my hair out, I contacted Anker support, who couldn't have been nicer. I realised, after rewatching the Tech with Brett video, that I'd plugged the hub in the wrong way 'round! (I know, I called myself that same name you're thinking too.) I had ordered one of the generic USB-C hubs and it almost lit me on fire, so I decided to go back to my trusted brand for all things electronic, Anker. This hub does exactly what the description says, and does it well. The USB 2.0 ports are a little loose (jiggly) but it doesn't impact performance. There are many reviews that bash Anker for misleading advertising because multiple monitors cannot be hooked up to this on a Mac, but it clearly says it in the photos and description. Sure it takes some deciphering, but they do a decent job of explaining it through their graphics. If you are looking for an inexpensive and dependable USB-C hub for your Macbook, this is probably the best choice out there.
My main objective when I purchased this USB hub was to replace a laptop docking station. I bought Anker because I have used the brand before and the devices are always of a good quality. Pros: - much smaller footprint - fully functional - good value for money Cons: - The Hub failed within weeks of arriving, but it was replaced without any fuss and replacement unit is working perfectly. One of the reasons to buy good brands. Bear in mind: - As the Hub takes 20W of power, the power supply that works on your laptop, may not work if plugged through the hub. The 65W original lenovo power brick is enough to power a thinkpad laptop through the hub. However, the PowerAtom III only delivers 45W on PD, so you cannot use the hub to charge. What would I improve: - The USB-C cable coming out is a bit short for my taste. I'd prefer if the hub came with a PD-out port on the hub and a lead you could plug in. This would allow you to replace it with a different length if preferred. - Who needs the card readers? All USB hubs in the market have card readers but very few people need them. It would make more sense to have an additional USB port instead. - I seem to struggle to find a power supply, 100W, with USB-C output that is reasonably compact and priced. I'd love to see something like the PowerAtom III on a 100W version. Conclusion: I can now have all the cables nicely tucked away with a single lead out of the dock into the USB-C port in the laptop and I am very happy
I recently bought a new MacBook Air with the M1 chip and didn't quite register that I was not going to have the same USB ports. I needed a quick solution to get all my devices connected, but I also read enough hub reviews to realize there could be issues with my Mac, so I just bought this relatively inexpensive one without too much research. It's a nice looking little piece, and seems to be well made, but my experience is mixed. Things it does work with: a keyboard and mouse at work, the USB cable for my Canon camera, my USB microphone for Zoom calls, and the Lumenera microscope camera I use sometimes at work. Things it does not work with: my two Seagate external backup disks, my external monitor at work, and the power cable on my Mac. Things it does not work with: my two Seagate external backup disks, my external monitor at work, and the power cable on my Mac. The last two are pretty annoying because there are only two ports on my Mac, so if the hub and power cord are plugged in then I can't use my external monitor too. It's also this short stubby thing sticking out of the left side of my computer, so the mouse wire in particular is completely on the wrong side of the laptop. All in all, this is useful for occasionally using an external device, and it saved my life when I needed to use the microscope camera, but it's not a great solution for constant everyday use.
The Anker power expand 7 in 1 is lightweight and delivers on power for all ports. Rating at 4 for now as I have only owned and used this product for a short time and there were some issues that arose in its use. The main issue is with the use of the HDMI port. I use this Anker product to with an M1 Mac mini and needed access to a second HDMI port to use with an external TV (used as a secondary monitor). The anker product connects to your computer via USB-c and it does power the HDMI port. It connected and worked just fine as advertised, picture quality good. The issue arose when I stepped away from my desk and the computer screen went to sleep. The issue arose when I stepped away from my desk and the computer screen went to sleep. When I attempted to wake the computer, all I was able to see on my main screen and the external tv as monitor, was a black screen. The mouse was visible, but no login area, nothing just a blank dark screen. The only to resolve this issue was to unplug the Anker Hub and plug it back in. Unplugging and replugging resolved the issue, but one shouldn't need to do this. The issue has happened on numerous occasions, at least three times, and appears to be the only issue I've encountered thus far. The frustrating part is the issue affects the one port I purchased this product for, the HDMI. Have had to be purposeful in not letting the computer fall asleep when using this product as the issue will happen again without fail. Just be aware this issue can happen. If things change, I will update this review or enter a new one down the road. For now, the product is reliable, withstanding the issue mentioned.
I only use this to plug in a monitor and a wired keyboard and mouse to my 2019 Macbook Pro, so far, it's been great. I find it great for those basic needs, no issue with monitor connectivity unlike the bulky Targus DisplayLink docking station which I got this Aukey USB hub to replace. I appreciate the minimalism since I also have another 2015 Macbook Pro that I have to switch between so the small build allows a simple swap between that an my Anker 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub. Not sure how other people are bricking their Macbook Pro laptops, I'd account it to using this hub for things meant for more super powered tools.
Needed a hub to extend my connections and make them "rational" on my desk. This item looked like what I was trying to accomplish! I had previous great experience with Anker products, so I ordered it. When it came, I plugged it in and added two or three of the devices I needed and the thing just WORKED out of the box, just like I hoped. GREAT. Since then I added the rest of the devices. Now have a printer and a web camera in the USBs, my phone in the USB-c, my computer in the PD, a second monitor in the HDMI and the whole thing powers just fine! I am not using the microSD and the SD - YET! But I just tried the microSD - works too. All this makes for one happy customer!
