With the display controls if you have connection (wifi) problems you can use the app - get the temp/time info and key that info in. If you are the 1% like me you have to do network troubleshooting. I had to do the following: 1. Make router 2.4 ghz radio visible (not hidden). 2. Temporarily turn off 5 ghz radio. 3. Re-install smartphone app to clear out prior settings (clean the slate) 4. Set smartphone to 2.4 ghz not 5.0 ghz. (Anova works only with 2.4 ghz.) 5. Move anova and smartphone to the room where the router is. 6. Also if you fail at a connection attempt - uninstall app and reinstall before trying a second (or third) time. Nice product- app is fabulous.

I purchased an Anova and used it 3 times for eggs, another for carrots and last a steak. Worked perfectly. Great end result. Attempted to use again and it would not come on. No lights, no sound, nothing. No damage. It just wouldn't come on out of the blue. Contacted Anova and they sent a replacement. Used that one TWICE. SAME ISSUE. Worked fine, attempt to use again and nothing. Had that less than 60 days. Anova said they can't replace a replacement. I'm not giving a poor review for that, the poor review is its too expensive to give 2 or 3 cooks amd then break down without cause. I dont recommend. Maybe im unlucky, but same issue tells me defect in software/quality. It wont last!!!

In the world of cooking trends one of the most popular today is immersion, or Sous Vide cooking. Immersion cooking works by circulating hot water around food sealed in bags with as much air as possible forced out of the bags. This allows for food to be cooked at a lower temperature for a longer period, trapping juices and other flavoring in the food and allowing for every even cooking. Instead of overcooking the outside of the meat to the get the middle done, immersion cooking gently warms the entire piece to one uniform temperature. Meats cooked this way are often then finished by quickly searing on a hot skillet or grill to get the look, flavor, and texture that most people find appealing.Anova has emerged as one of the leaders in the area of Sous Vide cooking ... MoreIn the world of cooking trends one of the most popular today is immersion, or Sous Vide cooking. Meats cooked this way are often then finished by quickly searing on a hot skillet or grill to get the look, flavor, and texture that most people find appealing.Anova has emerged as one of the leaders in the area of Sous Vide cooking with an excellent set of first generation products that appealed to different levels of users. The new Anova Precision Cooker is the next generation of cookers from Anova and sits in the middle of their product offerings between the nano and the pro. This device has more power than the previous generation – up 100 watts to 1000 and moves 8 liters of water per minute. It is also noticeably smaller. Not quite as compact as the nano, but offers more power, more water flow, a stainless steel skirt, and WiFi connectivity. It is also waterproof against splashes, which is important when dealing with pots of water.Anova cookers, unlike some others, have manual touch controls with a display or app control. The display shows things such as the current temp, remaining cook time, and other details. Personally, I like this over requiring an app and a smart phone to work. As a WiFi attached device, it does have app control that can be run from anywhere, even if you are away from the house or out of range of Bluetooth. The app offers control over the cooker as well as a large selection of crowd-sourced recipes. For testing, I tried the basic bone-in skin on chicken breast with the middle option for doneness (150.1 degrees for 1 hour). When selected, the app will automatically send the target temp and time to the cooker and away it goes! The chicken was seasoned with salt and pepper and placed into ziplock bags. I used the water displacement method to get the air out – just leave one corner of the bag open and submerge the rest, working the air out of the bag before sealing it just above the water line. Be sure to do this in a different pot or before preheating the water! It heats up water pretty quickly and then holds it to that .1 or so degree of variation. One thing to note – this model does make more noise than the nano or some other brands. Many cookers sound like an aquarium pump, but this unit makes a bit of a higher pitched motor noise. With the higher water volume motor and smaller size, the motor has to move faster, and this changes the pitch and noise level a bit. It’s not terrible and blends into the background in a busy kitchen, but if you hear a bit more motor buzz that is expected for this model. I clipped the bags to the sides of the pot and it’s time to cook! After an hour in the hot water bath the chicken was done and the sear finish was done using a cast iron skillet and canola oil. The chicken was extremely juicy, the texture was good (not mushy or overly chewy) and the finish on the skin was crispy. The seasoning could have been heavier and it will take some trial and error to dial in the cooking/finishing method and the seasonings to taste.Overall, this is a great product and has the power and features to please anyone who is looking for a next level up immersion cooker or to get started with cooking this way.

So handy for: heating up thick or thin slices of ham for Easter Dinner. Frees up the oven for other baked items. Doesn't dry out the hamIf you do a steak or filet the entire piece of meat will be the correct temp end to end. So if you like Med-Rare, you should consider cooking to Med temp.We got this for our son-in-law after I showed him ours at Thanksgiving dinner. We only had to grill the filet roast/lamb loin for 10-15 min to brown the outside.Plus I did the lamb loin & filet in the same pot, until the last 45min, then upped the temp for the filet.
The display broke off the top as soon as I took it out of the box and removed the protective film. I had steak to cook so I still tried with the display resting in place. Cooked great steak, but I don't need a broken appliance in my home for over $200.The next day, I went back in exchanged it for another new one. I opened the box to be safe, and the display broke off again with next to no pressure applied.Really disappointed, I'll be looking for a different brand.Furthor more, the app is neat, but the process for connecting is slow and unreliable. The app didn't notify me when the timer ended.
I am using this ANOVA circulator with a 26 quart insulated container with a lid. Per the manual, this is actually pushing the limits of the maximum volume of water that it is designed to handle. So far, it has done a fine job of maintaining temperature. The hottest cook I've done thus far was 190° and it worked great. I must comment that, with that volume of water, it does take quite some time to heat up to the target temperature. I've helped it along by taking some of the water from the container and bringing it up to a boil on the stove, then adding it to the water as it is preheating. That shaves quite a bit off if the preheat time. Everyone that loves perfectly cooking their meats should one one of these. It is well worth the investment.
I purchased this several years ago after attempting a fake Sous Vide setup. This is absolutely outstanding and easy to use. I'm able to setup some of the best cooked steaks I've ever in under 5 minutes of prep time and 10 minutes of finishing time. The steaks come out perfectly cooked every single time, giving restuarant quality without having to pay restaurant costs. I've talked a few other people into trying Sous Vide as a result of trying this. I've tried this with a variety of steaks, brisket, ribs, chicken, vegetables (carrots, sweet potatoes, asparagus), and even rapid cold-brew coffee using this. Instead of having to wait overnight, I'm able to make cold brew that lasts several days in under a couple of hours. I have become quite a fan of and very good at cooking sous vide! I use it for many things! This is my second Anova of this model as sometimes I cook in bulk, and one just didn't do the trick. I tried an Inkbird though it was a disaster compared to the Anova. For example, one of our favorites is lean chicken breasts. I will sometimes do 30 at a time. As they are vacuum sealed prior to cooking, I will freeze them and thaw as needed. And they do last a long time with no fear of freezer burn being vacuum sealed. Fish is great in sous vide. As are vegetables, eggs even various fruits. Perhaps you know sous vide has been used commercially in restaurants for many years! It became prominent in restaurants in the 1970's to avoid waste though it was fairly recently the home sous vide cooker became available. The best part is set-it and forget it. You cannot overcook as it maintains proper temperature, though, to be fair there is a maximum time for the best results. Preparing a whole chicken can be from 6-8 hours. After about 10 hours the meat starts to break down though is still edible. So yeah great product!
I had one of the original Anova sous vide cookers from way back. While it was a beast that I used weekly, I figured it was time to upgrade. This version is in a smaller package and much quieter, but doesn’t seem to work any better. I don’t care for WiFi connectivity - sous code is generally a “set it and forget it” way of cooking. The one thing I don’t like vs the original is that the mount does not allow me to submerge it nearly as much. This requires a much more water in a 12qt container almost to the point where it’s overflowing. Otherwise, it does the job. It doesn’t seem to heat any faster than the original, but I use hit tap water to begin anyway. The only other complaint is the box. Still a great product if you’re comfortable with the cost.

Answer: the food is to die for! The salmon was light, moist, and flavorful --- nothing like dried out, over-cooked crap I get at most all restaurants
