Start with the bad, but keep reading; this is a gamer's review while typing on the keyboard itself.Bad: The keyboard does feel weird to type on if you don't have the legs up, which can be straining on the wrists and fingers, I know there is a wrist rest, but that's the point. Some people don't use it for multiplayer reasons, but for typing, for an essay, or for school work, it is recommended to use the rest as it's easier on your wrists due to long typing times. It's better with legs up, But it does depend on the person. In terms of keyboard sounds, It's neither good nor bad. It sounds softer than the previous model of the Apex Pro TKL; still clacky, but if you have headphones on, you aren't going to notice it that much.Good: Where do I even start? The switches are amazing, especially in terms of the customization of their actuation point and their ability to bind walk, AND run to a specific key, depending on how far you push it down. The OLED Display is another plus with its ability to integrate into discord and other games, making it quite an enjoyable viewing when a specific game event occurs. And for the size and specs, it doesn't weigh a lot if that's something you are worried about. The USB-C Is in a decent spot, yes, it could be better but if you aren't going to move It around a lot, there's no point in worrying and it's braided, too so it's a tough cable. Conclusion: The pros heavily outweigh the cons; even for the price, it's a well-built keyboard that will last me years even without the tenkey.

The Apex Pro TKL 2023 Gaming Keyboard and it's an absolute game-changer! The build quality is top-notch, and the customizable actuation points make it perfect for both gaming and typing. The vibrant RGB lighting and software integration offers a seamless experience. A fantastic buy for any gaming enthusiast! Comes with a wrist support base which is very comfortable when spending hours gaming. The back-lit keyboard was amazing for nighttime gaming without being annoying or distracting to the eyes. Very responsive. All controls are put together so I don't have to pause my game to lower the volume or switch from streaming mode. If I ever wanted to personalise it, keys are easily removable. I personally love ASMR sounds, and this keyboard did not fail me.

The keys feel and look better than the original apex pro. I like the shape and size. Some say it doesn’t feel as unique or as premium, but I personally prefer this shape and size. It’s more compact.I bought this because I don’t like full size keyboards for gaming due to how much space they take up, but I also hate 60% keyboards because I need the arrow keys for some games, and I absolutely need the function keys and the delete key. It’s possible it could be related to my motherboard, but I don’t think so. No other keyboard I have does this.If you need a wireless keyboard with low latency, this is a great choice. Have the option of wired, wireless, and Bluetooth is wonderful. I can easily use it with different computers, one wired, one wireless.

I absolutely love this little gaming keyboard. It is mechanical so has that really satisfying clunk when you press the keys. It's incredibly responsive so when I'm gaming or even just boring old typing there's no delay after key presses and everything is smooth and easy. The cable is plenty long enough to reach down to my desktop tower under my desk. I love the magnetic attached wrist rest which helps when I spent that little bit too long engrossed on a game! It did take me a while to get used to a ten keyless board after having a full size for so long but now I've converted myself- it probably only took me a few days and I had got used to it. Obviously the rainbow backlighting is a bonus because it's super cute and adds some pizazz to my gaming, especially in the ... MoreI absolutely love this little gaming keyboard. I don't think I could go back to a non mechanical keyboard now, this is just too satisfying to use! The only minor quibble I have with it and it's extremely minor is that it's a bit of a dust magnet and you need to wipe it every single day or it's so dusty! Must be the colour and also the material it's made with? Doesn't really bother me overly though.
Overall this is a good keyboard. It’s analog switches provide a new approach to video gaming and offer a lot of customization the addition of the “Rapid Trigger” feature that is made possible by analog truly changes movement in video games, and sometimes can really give you a competitive advantage.Wireless functionality is good if not great. I haven’t had any issues with wireless connection and there is no noticeable latency.Build quality is good for a gaming keyboard however, for this price, I would’ve hoped for more attention to be paid to fit, finish, and sound. I would’ve preferred a metal chassis and less wobbly keycaps it sounds and feels like $100 aiming keyboard you can buy from any of the major brands. The real issue I have with his keyboard is it ... MoreOverall this is a good keyboard. I would’ve preferred a metal chassis and less wobbly keycaps it sounds and feels like $100 aiming keyboard you can buy from any of the major brands. The real issue I have with his keyboard is it software that is required to be on while using it. To take advantage of standout features like “rapid trigger” and “dual actuation” the software must be running in the background, which takes up your computer’s resources. More importantly, the UI is cluttered and confusing. It is filled with bloat like an aim trainer that I haven’t even bothered to use adjusting RGB is in an entirely separate area of the program than the rest of the keyboard’s settings. Changing keybinds and setting up dual actuation is split up to 3 tabs, all of which could easily be put into one clear page. All in all, if all you want is a good analog gaming keyboard, I’d recommend looking at Wooting and their Wooting 60HE. They were the ones that popularized analog keyboards and have really dialed in on a solid design with much more functionality. But if you NEED a TKL layout and/or Wireless capability, this keyboard might be the one to get.
The Good:The features of this keyboard are great. The easily adjustable switch activation is perfect for moving between various game genres and daily task such as typing. The keyboard is well constructed and solid. Huge points for adding feet to the middle of the board which helps the keyboard feel planted and ensure there's no movement when using it. The palm rest is a hard plastic material with a soft rubberized coating on it, oddly enough I've found it pretty comfortable which surprised me, but it's nice they include it. The Doubleshot keycaps are a HUGE improvement to older keyboard keycaps we have seen from Steelseries, kudos on including them. The Meh:First off in the "Meh" section is the position of the USB-C connection. The Doubleshot keycaps are a HUGE improvement to older keyboard keycaps we have seen from Steelseries, kudos on including them. The Meh:First off in the "Meh" section is the position of the USB-C connection. It's high on the side of the chassis and if you use the feet to angle your keyboard up at all the USB-C connector just looks silly, makes cable management a bit less tidy, and could lead to potentially damaging the connector. Next fo rthe "Mehs" is the sound of these new omnipoint switches. I dont know what changed with the switches themselves or the internal design of the keyboard but holy heck they are clacky. I have the original omnipoints in the Apex Pro Mini and it sounds much better while typing. The Apex Pro TKL sounds kinda... cheap by comparison. Lastly, it would be nice to have more integration in the OLED panel, controlling Discord mute/deafen or something of the like would be fantastic. The Bad:I'm including the switch sound in the bad as well, Steelseries missed an opportunity to make improvements in various areas by actually making the keystrokes sound worse (imo at least) than their first gen omnipoint boards. Lastly, I don't know if it's hardware or software but I've been troubleshooting the backlighting on my own and with Steelseries support (only via e-mail which is very unfortunate) due to the backlighting effects freezing every 5 to 10 seconds and then acting like it's suddenly "catching up" which is quite distracting when seeing flashes of light in your peripheral vision. Hopefully it's just a software issue but after a day and a half of exchanging e-mails and doing my own troubleshooting I'm still no closer to a resolution and this keyboard is currently hard to find in store so a fast swap out isn't possible.
Design and AestheticsThe SteelSeries Apex Pro 2023 TKL continues to impress with its robust build and sleek design. The frame is made of aircraft-grade aluminum, giving it a solid, premium feel. This level of customization is a game-changer for both gaming and typing, as it lets you tailor the keyboard to your specific preferences and needs.Performance and Gaming ExperienceIn gaming scenarios, the Apex Pro 2023 TKL excels. The ability to set a shallower actuation point for faster response times gives a noticeable advantage in fast-paced games. The keys feel responsive and the overall typing experience is satisfying, with a nice balance between tactile feedback and smoothness.Durability and Build QualityThe durability of the Apex Pro 2023 TKL is top-notch. The double-shot PBT keycaps are resistant to wear and shine, maintaining their texture and appearance over time. The magnetic wrist rest is a nice addition, providing comfort for extended gaming sessions.Software and CustomizationSteelSeries' Engine software is intuitive and offers extensive customization options for lighting, key bindings, and actuation settings. The onboard memory is a nice touch, allowing you to save profiles directly to the keyboard, making it easy to switch between different setups.Connectivity and PortsThe keyboard features a detachable USB-C cable, which is a welcome feature for portability. However, it lacks additional USB pass-through ports, which some users might miss for connecting other peripherals.Price PointThe Apex Pro 2023 TKL is positioned at the higher end of the market in terms of price. It's an investment, but for those who value the level of customization and performance it offers, the price can be justified.ConclusionThe SteelSeries Apex Pro 2023 TKL is a top-tier mechanical keyboard that caters to both gamers and typing enthusiasts. Its build quality, customization features, and performance are exceptional, though the high price point might be a consideration for some. For those seeking a high-end, customizable TKL keyboard, it's undoubtedly one of the best options available.
This is a great keyboard, not just a gaming keyboard. If you’re a fan of linear switches, the Omnipoint switches in this keyboard will likely be the best keyboard switches that you have used. Rather than traditional mechanical switches, this keyboard utilizes Hall-effect switches, which utilize magnets and corresponding sensors to detect and register keystrokes. This circumvents the need for the standard contact points in mechanical switches, as well as the time required for “debouncing”. This keyboard also has double-shot PBT keycaps, which are generally excellent as they will last effectively forever, while being resistant to finger oils and general grime.Due to the way these Hall-effect switches operate, there are limitless possibilities regarding actuation ... MoreThis is a great keyboard, not just a gaming keyboard. If you’re a fan of linear switches, the Omnipoint switches in this keyboard will likely be the best keyboard switches that you have used. This circumvents the need for the standard contact points in mechanical switches, as well as the time required for “debouncing”. This keyboard also has double-shot PBT keycaps, which are generally excellent as they will last effectively forever, while being resistant to finger oils and general grime.Due to the way these Hall-effect switches operate, there are limitless possibilities regarding actuation points on a per-key basis, all of the way from 0.2mm to 3.8mm. Additionally, Steelseries has stated they will support 0.1mm-4.0mm actuation, as well as dynamic actuation (similar to Wooting’s “rapid-trigger”) in a tertiary firmware update (coming soon). The acoustic characteristics of this keyboard are generally improved over the legacy 2019 model, in my opinion. While each key is moderately more “clacky” as opposed to the “thocky” sound of the 2019 model, the stabilizers on the new 2023 version are significantly improved by reducing the rattle while maintaining a “fast” and fluid feel, which is something that is often lost when it comes to custom keyboards. The ONLY critique that I have is that the RGB profiles are no longer able to be saved to memory or adjusted outside of the software. This is potentially an exceptionally important note for users who may be unable to install third-party software on PCs where this keyboard may be used (i.e. work computers). While I find this frustrating, it does seem to be par for the course when compared to most competition, and does not impact overall performance.
My buddy had the first version of this keyboard and got me interested. One of the key features of this 2023 edition was the USB-C port. Makes it so much easier to unplug and travel with a different cable as to not mess up my desks cable management. Seems like a small detail but fixed cables have haunted me for years. I also really like the soft linear switches and the degree of control over actuation. The Steel Series software is also top notch. Gives me granular control over macros and allows for highly customisable meta macros. Definitely expensive but in my opinion, a fantastic keyboard software passage.
