API AlgaeFix controls the main and most persistent types of algae in freshwater aquariums, and does so without causing harm to your fish or plants. You can use AlgaeFix as part of your aquarium maintenance routine, or to directly treat and control algae. Weekly doses of AlgaeFix will control algal growth and reduce aquarium maintenance over time. Do not use with freshwater crustaceans, including shrimp, crabs, and lobsters. Directions: Add 1 ml for each 10 gallons or 5 ml for each 50 gallons of aquarium water. Repeat dose every three days until algae is controlled. Siphon or scrape any dead algae from aquarium. Once algae growth is under control, add one dose per week.

Have a quick search of the reviews online before buying, this is a dangerous product. I thought that people were just overdosing with the product and that's why everyone's fish were dying. Thinking it was more a user error sort of problem. I was wrong, I underdosed with 0.5ml just to be safe (recommended was 1.5ml for my 70L tank.) Mixed with about 10litres before slowly adding to the tank. I was monitoring for about 40 min and noticed all the fish began acting out of sorts and being very lethargic. The mystery snails had become none responsive and would float to the top. I immediately did a 50% water change, and separated the snails. I will be doing probably another 50% water change in the next two hours as someone else online had done to save their fish from this ... MoreHave a quick search of the reviews online before buying, this is a dangerous product. This product will harm certain species more than others, from my experience they will harm Tetras, endlers, corydoras and Danios. It's my strong recommendation that anyone reading this avoids this product. I'm just glad I underdosed so much. Instead of buying this product, turn the tank light off or move the tank out of direct or indirect sunlight for a week, the green water will slowly disappear o its own.

Please please please for the love of god do not use this product. I made the mistake of buying it this evening to use on my fish and now they are all freaking out and hyperventilating. My girlfriend and I are in the process of doing a water change and I’m hoping it saves them. Just save your fish the trouble. Don’t use it. Please. I’m heartbroken

I dosed my 20 gallon tank as directed in the morning. By the afternoon, all of my mollies were dead and my guppies were not doing so well. I had two adult mollies and 14 fry of about a month and a half old and two adult guppies. After looking into it, I see that this has happened to many others. This product needs to be taken off the shelves. It does not treat the algae at all, but it does kill fish.
I had some ugly algae on my driftwood. Normally I would take it out and scrub it but I thought I'd give this product a try. After carefully following the directions and adding the Algaefix one night I sat back and wondered how long it would take to clear the algae. The next day I had several dead fish and it didn't stop there. They kept dying. I suspected the AlgaeFix since nothing else was wrong in my tank so I did water changes. Apparently the damage was already done because I lost all my fish in my 125 gallon tank (lots of fish) except for three. Ten year old clown loaches, 15+ year old synadontis catfish, 6 year old angelfish all died to name a few. This is why the natural way is the best way. Ten year old clown loaches, 15+ year old synadontis catfish, 6 year old angelfish all died to name a few. This is why the natural way is the best way. Frequent water changes are the best way to control algae and taking things out and scrubbing it off if there's some is the best thing to do. Relying on chemicals isn't always the best option and I'll never do it again. I wouldn't recommend this product. It's not worth the risk. I cannot say if it would have eventually got rid of the algae because I started doing water changes when it negatively affected the fish, but even if it would have, it certainly wouldn't have been worth it.
DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT I dump the recommended dosage in my tank and less than 2 hours later my fish are gasping for air at the top of the tank as the oxygen is sucked out of the tank. Please do not use this product, I'm currently dechlorinating for a water change and I don't know if the little guys are gonna make it. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT
I just bought this to fight some cloudy/ greenish water. Our tank gets alot of natural sunlight in our office and the algea was starting to get out of control. I was skeptical trying this product but pleasantly supprised. It's has not impacted my fish negatively and my water is now clear again!
We recently had an algae bloom which got out of control pretty fast in our 36 gallon bowfront tank. I went ahead and ordered a UV filter, but to take quick action, we decided to try this product out in the meantime. HUGE MISTAKE, we used the recommended amount and within 2 hours most of our fish were all sucking at the surface for air. A few hours later we noticed most of them were just being sediment at the bottom of the tank, we woke up today and found 6 of our fishy friends dead. I've now moved the remaining fish to a quarantine tank, drained all the water again, and am starting completely over when my UV filter gets here. Already threw the rest of the product away and recommend you do the same.
The picture does no justice really. The rock was heavily draped in green algae. I actually liked the green color on it. I just was trying to maintain a clean tank because I don't like the sight of algae eaters. Ths product does a really good job. Too good!!! Everything in the tank was clean over a matter of time and the fish are still alive. Great product.
I have kept fish for decades. I test my water, keep tight maintenance, and run everything professionally. I used API Algaefix in a mixed African Cichlid tank, according to the printed specifications (checked twice). Within hours two species were entirely killed: Otopharynx lithobates "yellow blaze" & "red blaze", and Crytocara Moorii "blue dolphin". All other fish didn't have any symptoms: other haps, peacocks, mbuna, and frontosa.
