Applaws Dry Cat Food

The food consists of dark brown kibbles about 8-9mm in diameter and 4mm thick - similar in size to an aspirin tablet. I chose Applaws because of the zero cereal and high meat content. The 400g size was ideal to test the food with my cat - the next size up is around 20 per bag and too much to spend if my cat won't eat it. However the cat seems to eat it ok - though I've not tried it myself. It is an expensive cat food, but I suppose you get what you pay for. I will probably switch over to Applaws as soon as the previous food runs out, but I don't want my cat to just eat one type of food so I'll look round for another similar product which she will eat as well. I've given 5 stars based on the food content. You really need to decide on the value for yourself.

I was skeptic at first about this cat food it seemed to good to be true. A few ingredients that I actually don’t have to look up; the bottom line is it’s good for all 3 of my cats(1yr, 4yr + 17yr) and they love it. I noticed some pet parents having trouble switching foods, thankfully I give my senior cat soft food so the extra ‘gravy’ I use for the other 2 dry kibble and they eat it up. Hope that helps

My cat is a very picky eater and has allergies to the preservatives they put in most cat foods on the market. However, she goes nuts over this food. I pair it with the wet version as instructed on the label for a complete diet. She has been on the food for over year and have not had any health complication such as vomiting, skin allergies etc. I highly recommend this food to anyone who is looking for a healthy preservative free food option for their cat.

Cats won't touch it
8 March 2023

I have 3 cats and not one of them will eat this so we cannot recommend. I had high hopes for this due to the higher meat content but they're just not interested in it at all and even choose to eat their old wet food breakfast instead - they never normally do that.

Fake ingredients on the package
9 May 2019

I bought this food because I took it to the description of the ingredients. It was what my cat needed, the price or the brand did not play a role for me, and the most important thing for me what my cat eat because I don’t have time to cook him natural food. Ingredients listed on the package were good. My cat loves the chicken and it’s taste, he basically can eat fish flowers, but without pleasure. What had happened with this feed! I decided to try this feed, always do it before giving it to my pet, and I was disappointed after bite! The food was very salty; it smelled like fish feed. It tasted like fish, especially if you chew on its bones. Exactly taste. It was like canned mackerel! Or like Orijent fish( bought it before urinary problems). My cat has urolithiasis, he is forbidden to eat fish and any fish food! Such hiding ingredients is dangerous to the health of your cats. If you have urine problems, you may end up unbearably painful for your cat and very long treatment with antibiotics!

Fewer Ingredients
1 August 2018

I found Applaws earlier this year (2018) because my cat was having lose bowels, It was due to a lot of added fillers found in the ingredients. So I began to experiment, the food without the added fillers were better for my cats intestinal function. Applaws was one of the foods that I offered, during the experiment, because it boosted of having only 3 or 4 ingredients. Puls, I found out that Pumpkin is beneficial to intestinal function for cats. Of which Applaws offers as one of the ingredients in their wet food. So naturally, I introduced Applaws dry food to my cat, so far so good. I applaud Applaws for making an items without all the added fillers.

Ingredient contradiction
21 June 2018

So there's a huge contradiction concerning the ingredients listed about this food. In the description posted, it claims grain and potato free. However, in the ingredients listed on the bag itself...the fourth or so item listed on the first line of the ingredients states potato. So which is it?I've purchased other Applaws brand products...the mackerel loin treats. My cats love it!!! And, I love that they love it. It's just mackerel. No preservatives or other additives such as artificial color or anything else unwanted.

Limited ingredient balanced food formula
28 December 2017

I'm not sure this is the same formula I purchased in the past. The bag is now four pounds instead of five. My cat has allergies which manifest themselves in ear irritation. My vet stated not to feed him any fish, as many cats are allergic to fish. It took me a long time to find a limited ingredient dry food he will eat. Applaws also makes a duck formula my cat loved, but it made his feces smell so bad, I started mixing it with this chicken formula until I weaned him off the duck entirely.I supplement this food with the four ingredient Applaws chicken and duck in broth.

Ok for kibble
13 September 2016

I gave this product 4 stars because my cats ate it, although they didn't eat at it as voraciously as the Wysong Optimal Nurture and Natural Balance dry food I had them on prior. The kibble however is smaller and easier to chew than the Wysong. And thumbs up that the first 3 ingredients are meat products! The bad:1) it's dry food. For cats that do not drink a lot of water, like my male kitten, dry food isn't very good for them due to dehydration. Now it's a good thing he's a kitten because he won't develop kidney stones as easily.2) The ingredients: Only the first 3 ingredients are meat based. Cats are obligate carnivores, so I don't see the point of putting in rice, potatoes, beets., etc. Sure humans need it but for cats it seems pointless other than to bloat ... MoreI gave this product 4 stars because my cats ate it, although they didn't eat at it as voraciously as the Wysong Optimal Nurture and Natural Balance dry food I had them on prior. Sodium selenite: I've read that it has caused digestive issues and even death in animals that have consumed high amounts of this product. I'm not an expert, so please research on your own.I was glad to see Petco selling Applaws products, because their food toppers and canned foods have limited ingredients which are usually meats. However just be careful that cats are carnivores, cats can become dehydrated from all the dry food, and cats also need supplements that even the limited ingredient wet foods do not seem to provide.

We love Applaws!
10 December 2019

Both the dry food and the wet food for Applaws is fantastic! The dry food has all the vitamins my cats need listed in their nutritional info. My 10 year old cat Iggy was diagnosed with IBS this year, and he had lost several lbs due to malabsorption. Since I switched him to Applaws, he’s off all his meds and back to a healthy weight. His vitamin supplements are now in his dry food already! And the wet food is minimalist in that it doesn’t have much that can upset his stomach. Definitely loving this brand!
