Great little machine for everyday use. I’m sure it’s more than capable of handling some not too heavy graphics / photo editing in Photoshop. Although equipped with only 256GB of flash memory, I run everything off Dropbox. My file sizes aren’t massive so it’s not a problem. With broadband getting faster, it’ll only be a problem if you’re video editing 4K+. Go external off USB C or Thunderbolt 4. It’s cheaper than Apple’s pricing - 4* for Value. 16GB is good, though for unified RAM.

This is my first non laptop Apple computer. I used a Macbook for years, it was all I needed at the time. I never considered the older Mini, either the Intel based or M1/2 based ones, they were ok for what they were but they lacked normal priced upgrade options...seriously $200 for 256GB of additional storage is nuts!This new one still suffers from Apples delusional upgrade pricing, but they at least start you off with more ram (16GB) instead of a measly 8GB, and the M4 chip in the base model is plenty powerful enough for even heavy editing work. I got around the idiotic upgrade pricing for the storage by adding a Thunderbolt 4 external enclosure (around $50) and added my own 4TB NVMe ssd from Crucial. The transfer took much less time than I expected! I really appreciate finding the suggestion to do the migration with the use of an ethernet cable between the two.My friends consider me a "techie". My other items includean iPad Air with WiFi + Cellular, also purchased at Best Buy, and an iPhone 12 mini. I have a 10 year old Macbook Pro. It was due for an upgrade a few years ago but the timing for me was affected by the introduction of the M1 chip by Apple. I hesitated to upgrade when the M1 came out. Quite and invisible tiny mini computer. It's as if it's not even on my desk. Only way to know it is there is by the tiny little power light indicator which I must is kinda bright. Nice to have some located usbc connection on the front of the Mac mini. Power button is on the bottom in the back, but I almost never turn off and on my Mac's so it really not a deal. Plenty of ports on the back as well. Plenty of power for every day tasks and some photo, video and production work as well, especially for under a grand. M4 with 24gb RAM (unified memory) and 512gb storage is more than enough for none paid professional work and honestly even that to some degree with an additional external storage. Highly recommend!

It's nice to have it as a backup computer. Simply connect a wireless keyboard and ,ouse, and it's like having a huge computer in your family room. Connect the Apple CD/DVD drive to it and you can watch movies on it, replacing the old DVD player on your shelf.The fact that this has 16GB RAM as a base model at that price really is ... Others have said it, and I will echo most other reviewers. As a Mac (Apple) user since 1982, this is one of my favorite Macs of all. It is one of the best values, even at the base model. Some complain the 255GB isn’t enough but iCloud storage solves that issue, or an inexpensive external SSD. With the 16GB of RAM standard, combined with all specs, it is indeed one of the best Macs for most non-power user. And, with the M4 (and Pro version), the Mini encroaches into professional territory also. Love everything about it. Specs, size, and price.

Progress has been made, now the storage side needs up to par. It's still $60-100 for a good TB4 external enclosure, plus the cost of extra SSD stick.The 5 ports finally being standard is the second best change this time around.
