TFT/LCD displays are perfectly flat, a lot thinner and lighter than conventional CRT displays and do not flicker, all this because of the new technology they use for producing images. Do you want to free up space on your desk, or do you want to be able to move your monitor without breaking your back? Then this is the perfect display for you!

When I could no longer get the latest ISO and Adobe updates to Lightroom and Photoshop for my iMac, I decided to purchase a Mac Mini 2. I was hoping that I would be able to use my iMac as the monitor, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I even thought about opening my iMac and see if I could adapt it to work with the Mac Mini, but the more I researched it the less promising it looked. Then, I started researching for a new monitor. There is only one alternative 5K monitor out there to the Apple Studio Display. Both are well over $1,200, so then I started looking at 4K monitors. There are some nice 4K monitors, but the more research I did the more issues I found with all the other monitors, such as build quality, and just plain working correctly with a Mac. ... MoreWhen I could no longer get the latest ISO and Adobe updates to Lightroom and Photoshop for my iMac, I decided to purchase a Mac Mini 2. My previous monitors required some set up with their included stands, not that they were particularly difficult. The Studio Display, on the other hand, simply required you to take the monitor out of the box, plug in the Thunderbolt cable and attach the power cable. However, when you consider the other alternatives in the market, the Apple Studio Display should be your first choice.

It’s beautiful and the quality is as well. I purchased open box excellent and unfortunately it had no wrapping on screen so it does have small scratches on the screen as well as big cloudy wipes which was unfortunate. This was the first time I’ve ever ordered an open box that had an issue as two weeks prior to this order I bought the m3 max chip MacBook Pro 14 inch- open box excellent condition and it was pristine and have purchased a few other open boxes before that. So, all in all happy and keeping item because I got it for such a low price that I can live with the scratches. But can we trust open box excellent conditions anymore? Pros: aesthetics, guaranteed apple integration, 5K resolution, built in speakers and high quality cameraCons: priceI transitioned from separate 27" iMac and MacBook air once those computers started to get old to a single MacBook pro with a monitor. First off, the monitor is expensive. You can easily get a simple monitor that works for 1000$ less. However, after comparing monitors that are more similar in feature set, the price is not that far off. For example, a Dell ultrahd 4k thunderbolt compatible monitor is actually more expensive as listed on the Dell website and the apple monitor is a 5k monitor. Aesthetically, it obviously blends in seamlessly with an apple laptop or mac mini if looks matter to you. Aesthetically, it obviously blends in seamlessly with an apple laptop or mac mini if looks matter to you. Furthermore, when I purchased it, I knew integration with my laptop would be seamless. It has 3 usb c ports on the back that are basically extensions of my laptop so anything I plug in their interacts directly with my laptop OS without issues. Other monitors also have USB hubs built in. Would they work as seamlessly? I would guess they would, but I didn't want the frustration of finding out otherwise. It has built in high definition camera and a very nice speaker system if that is important to you. I plug in an external DAC and speakers so I don't use the speakers, but they do sound very good for built ins and reduces clutter on your desk if you don't want to use external speakers. In conclusion, if you want to maintain the apple aesthetic, want a very high definition monitor, and/or have need for the extra features it has then the monitor is worth the high price. If not, then there are cheaper options
This is an Apple display. That means the picture quality is good, the price is high, and it works seamlessly with a Mac computer. The build quality is fantastic. There is no wobble, and the stand is very sturdy. It does have fans, though I've never heard them in my home office. The display would benefit from additional ports on the back, however.Picture quality is great, and running at the "recommended" scaling on a Mac produces absurdly sharp text. This is a true 5k display, so with the UI scaled to 1440p you will still have decent on-screen real-estate on the 27" display. The speakers are surprisingly competent, but do not delude yourself into thinking they are great. They are perhaps the very best built-in speakers I've ever heard, but that is not as great praise as it may seem. Good enough for zoom calls and casual background music, absolutely. Good enough for critical listening? Not so much.I don't use the built-in camera, but that is probably the weakest feature on the display, being lower resolution than one should expect from a premium product.I'd like to see >60Hz refresh rates and HDR, and more ports. That said, this is a fantastic monitor to pair up with your Mac.
Bird photography is my hobby. I take hundreds of pictures every week, weather permitting, and process the ones I want to keep on a MacBook Pro. I admit I sometimes pixel peep, looking for fine feather detail and examining for noise. I often crop a lot. I spend several hours a day examining photo files. The 16 inch MacBook screen is good, but too small to allow for close examination for sharpness. I purchased a cheaper monitor, thinking that it would be good enough for my purposes. After a year of using this, I decided to move up to the Apple Studio Display. I am not at all sorry that I did so. The resolution and color rendering are clearly superior and I am enjoying my hobby more as a result. I moved the cheaper monitor to a winter residence (RV) and plan to use it with my MacBook during winter months. The Studio Display charges my MacBook without issues, and additionally has enough USB C ports to attach my card reader and an SSD. The only downside to this display is, of course, the cost. I am glad that I overcome my reluctance to spend the money; for me it is worth it.
After a series of monitors that just didn’t work well with my Mac and iPad, finally bit the bullet and bought this. Voila, All my issues resolved. Devices charge properly, connect through one cable, enough usbc ports, webcam built in, resolution native and amazing. Sound is surprisingly good. Brightness and clarity very good. One gripe I have is the webcam. Expected this to be much better. Big let down relative to the steep price. Secondly, power cord not removable. May or may not be long enough for your setup. Would be so much better to have a standard plug that you could replace with longer or shorter cable for clean setup.
This monitor has great PPI, picture quality and build quality. Most importantly it just works with your Mac and IPad devices flawlessly. I was previously using an LG 5K2k ultrawide display. Right off the bat it had connectivity issues through thunderbolt and eventually the port stop working all together. Even though the LG has HDR, the Apple Studio Display trumps it in brightness, smoothness and clarity. I’ve owned Apple monitors before, and I already know it will work without issues for a very long time. I considered other Ultra-wide monitors on the market, but I didn’t feel like the headache of trying to tweak stuff to work with my Macs properly. Would be nice to have multiple ports.
I had been through a series of other displays before I finally pulled the trigger and got this one. Yes, it has a steep price, but it's worth it in the long run. The display is crystal clear, colors are magnificent (P3 mode), and the sound is very nice too (although not as great as my studio monitors). The resolution is absurd, and in the highest setting (5120 x 2880) you can barely read the text because it's so small. I use it in the recommended resolution and it's great there. The brightness is awesome, I have to turn it down lower than the display on my Macbook Pro (2019) so that it's even for the lighting in my room. I chose the base model with no add-ons (skipped the nano-glass and the fancy stand), and it's fine.My main reason for getting this was to keep ... MoreI had been through a series of other displays before I finally pulled the trigger and got this one. I chose the base model with no add-ons (skipped the nano-glass and the fancy stand), and it's fine.My main reason for getting this was to keep color consistency between my devices. I found that using other monitors, even when calibrated with Spyder, didn't give me the same color result (portrait photographer). The skin color looked good on one monitor then looked yellow or red on an Apple Device. With this monitor, I can edit photos and know they'll be good color-wise.One thing I note: I keep my Samsung T7 SSDs (3) of them plugged into the monitor and every day I get one of those pop-up messages Disk Not Ejected Properly. Assuming this is a setting I can circumvent, but it's new to me.I'll eventually upgrade to the Mac Studio, so with the monitor, I'm a portion of the way there.I also love the look of the display, it's solidly built and has a great aesthetic just sitting on the desk when off. It doesn't have a power button, it just times out after a while.I'd have more Apple products if they weren't so costly, but I do love them. This display is worth the extra money.
Not going to lie -- the price point for this display was a VERY difficult pill to swallow, and I previously had no intention of purchasing it. The lack of features on this particular model (height adjustment, screen rotation, the thicker-than-preferred-in-2022 bezels was almost enough to deter me away initially. However, I've worked in the tech industry for years and I also do a lot of photography & video work, but truthfully have never spent more than $400 on a quality monitor. I've specifically targeted and purchased monitors that meet the specs I need for editing, and I CANNOT tell you exactly how many monitors I've gone through over even over the last 5 years, but it's maybe close to 2 per year. I've purchased the 28" & 32" versions of Sony's 4K monitors from Best Buy as well -- attempted to calibrate them, but the color just would not stick... Anyway, my birthday was the following day & Best Buy had one in stock -- so I bit the bullet and made this purchase.I had slight buyer's remorse for the first week, but it quickly faded. The display fits perfectly next to my iMac and seriously ties the aesthetic together in my office compared to having a monitor of a different brand, primarily being housed in black plastic, inconvenient controls, unmatching color profiles, having to manually adjust the monitor settings separately, etc...If you decide to get one, you'll probably laugh at the ginormous, clever yet simple, and protective packaging that this thing comes in. But I think that you'll love the quality and aesthetic of this thing. It was weirdly relieving having a monitor where I'm able to control the monitor settings via my Macs -- and more especially, having matching color profiles where both my iMac (or even my MacBook Pro M1Pro) and Studio Display have 100% matching colors on screen which speeds up my workflows. Not sure why people are complaining about the camera (I suppose it could be better this day in age, but image quality is great with the lighting I have in my office, and with Apple's Center Stage - people surprisingly trip out and give positive comments while I'm in Zoom meetings. Sound quality is fantastic and pairs very well with the homepods in the room. I ended up giving away the iMac to someone who needed a computer for college, so I now use the display solely with my MacBook Pro -- and having the USB-C/Thunderbolt4 ports comes in clutch by having the display also be a hub. Oh -- need I say that you literally just need the one Thunderbolt cable connected to the MacBook to connect the display, power the MacBook, as well as having access to whatever USB-C peripherals (I have 3 SSDs connected) you want connected. Almost forgot -- controllable Night Shift mode and even screen brightness via your Mac/keyboard -- YUUUSSSSSS!!!This display is NOT for everyone and is obviously not a necessity. However, it's a beautiful monitor that you can tell will last for well over 5+ years of monitor swapping -- so in that sense, it is worth the investment, at least for me.Lastly, if you're going to drop this amount of money on this display, just get some reassurance and get Apple Care. I purchased the $50 annual plan since it'll last until you decide to cancel it and is worth having for something like this.
