Years ago my Wife and I bought a first generation Apple TV and it wasn't quite there yet. We ended up swapping it out for a Roku which worked fine for our needs, but the performance was always buggy and slow. Fast forward to our purchase of this Apple TV and we've unplugged the Roku completely and haven't looked back. This new third generation 4k 128GB Apple TV is incredible. The picture quality is amazing (noticeably better than Roku) since it's takes full advantage of our HDR 4k TV. We're very glad Apple got it together with this version of their streaming device and we highly recommend it, especially now that there are so many great streaming services - for $150, you really can't go wrong.

The Apple TV runs at 60p, and when the projector is on, the Apple TV will match the source material. 24p or whatever. It all automatic. I don't need to change any settings. -it's really fast. The navigation and staring of movies has not lag at all. -it's extremely easy to use with AirPods. When you put the AirPods on, the Apple TV will ask via a small popup if you want to use them. No pairing necessary. -my iPhone and Apple Watch are remote controllers. Other devices have apps for control, but when you need to enter text on the TV, your phone will buzz and ask if you want to use the phone to type text. -you can disable the screen saver and sleep so it's always ready to go. It uses almost no power when the menu is on. I think 2 watts if its on and 1.5 watts in standby. -iCloud Photos. I love how easy it is to have my photos on the TV. The only thing that's not perfect is that when I use Plex, it will not use lossless audio from blu-rays. So if I watch a blu-ray. I'll continue to use my Shield TV. But for everything else, I'll use the Apple TV. It's just a significantly better user experience than the others. For $150 it's crazy not to buy it. It's the best value for dollar device I own.

This Apple TV HD replaces out decade old Roku box. We liked the Roku box for what it did all those years, but this last year, with Roku boxes we had, just had too many issues and both are dead. So when it came time to replace them, we looked hard at both the highest end Roku boxes, the Apple TV options, we even thought about just replacing the TV with a Smart TV that already had the apps we wanted. In short, we absolutely made the best decision with the Apple TV HD. We would have gone with the 4K model except that the TV this was attached to is 720p and won't be upgraded anytime soon. Because we are already in the Apple Ecosystem, this fit in quite well, and even made things like separating family member accounts, and who sees what, very seamless and handy. Its also ... Its also great if you have Apple Fitness! Being able to see the workouts on a larger screen is a HUGE plus. Let's talk about searching apps. Roku's remote sucks. the Apple TV Remote with the Siri Button is beyond awesome. Just press the button, tell Siri what you are looking for, release the button, and Viola! Its like Magic! We will never go back to the single letter typing of the Roku. If that's not enough, if you have an iPhone or iPad, you can use those as remotes as well, with the same functionality as the Siri Remote. Very well thought out! And then there's Apple Homekit! We are just getting started with Homekit, but we see serious potential as we continue to build on it. Overall, I'd give this 7 out of 10 stars if I could since we ended up getting much more than expected out of it.

I have had three Apple TVs over the years plus a collection of Rokus, Fire TVs and Chromecasts. This is the best performing streamer I have had the privilege to use. It is quick, the remote has been massively upgraded and the video quality is excellent. On the downside, if you you dont rent or buy your content from iTunes, it is not as good as Roku. You have to jump on a browser and buy it outside if the gilded gates of Apple world. Also, if you are an Android person, the casting does not support Chromecast. For the typical Apple user this is the best. And the high price matched the performance. If you are a basic user, Roku will sell you a streamer that does most of the same things for at least half the price. Recommend
I bought this as an upgrade to another streaming device I bought for £30. I honestly don’t know where to start with this device. Firstly Siri only brings up its own content and stuff from a few other services. Although the device supports Netflix, Disney+ and Prime apps, Siri does not show content from these apps only it’s own content and a few other lesser known apps. This is very disappointing as other, cheaper mainstream devices offer cross service voice search functionality. Considering the price of the device this is a a big disappointment. Also streaming video from phone and iPad is glitchy at best ( I have a top of the range Wi-Fi router) and also the remote doesn’t work with my TV even though it supports the hdmi protocol that is needed to make it work. If you want a really restricted experience that is designed to push you to apple content then this device is for you. Otherwise I would strongly urge you to save your money.
I upgraded to this from the Apple TV 4K (2021), the previous generation. So, I wasn't expecting much. But I wanted the HDR10+ feature for dynamic HDR, which is conventional HDR that works like the superior Dolby Vision. I got that, plus an unexpected bonus: My LG OLED B6 TV always had elevated black levels with the previous Apple TV box. They're back to inky black with this new box, just like regular HDR and SDR. Also, with the upgraded processor, apps like Netflix and Hulu snap into focus in a blink, whereas with the previous box you had to wait a bit. For the future-proofing and the superior HDR/Dolby Vision, this upgrade was worth it.
Apple TV is extremely useful for those without a smart TV. You will need an apple ID, wi-fi and HDMI cable 2.0 to connect and you will be able to download all your favourite apps to view (with subscription) from the Apple TV. The picture quality is always impressive, providing screen savers and auto-shutdown options if you happen to fall asleep on your couch. Apple TV plus is Apple's own channel like Prime or Netflix and it requires a subscription but it isn't too expensive. Pros: - We’ve owned every generation of Apple TV, all still working and still in use. This is an incremental but important evolution with some vital improvements. A must-have upgrade if already immersed in the Apple eco system.- eARC at last on Apple TV! Finally all audio from all devices (live TV, TV apps, PS5, etc.) can be returned by hdmi in Atmos quality and sent to stereo paired HomePods. We’ve just disposed of a massive black-box amplifier, 7 speakers, a subwoofer and miles of wiring. Living room looks huge again!- new Siri remote is a joy to use and resolves many issues with the old one.- effortlessly operable from any other apple device in the house, even Apple watches, with the remote-app baked-in to the new iOS.- works perfectly as a hub for Apple HomeKit. ... When paired with HomePods and HomeKit equipment, enables us to manage all of our lighting, heating, music and even coffee machine via Siri commands and shortcuts. Cons: - the new 120hz frame rate capability is currently of limited use as there’s virtually no content available- still expensive for a streaming box when considering the competition- external design indistinguishable from previous models and a bit boring for an “exciting” new Apple product. Awesome colour range across all other Apple devices. Apple TVs are often on clear display in the main room of the house just below the main focal point so probably get looked at a lot. Who decorates their living room in black? Why does Apple TV only come as a featureless black box?
I bought this HD 32GB 2nd Gen Apple TV to solve a problem I was experiencing with my newly purchased TCL 4K Roku smart tv. The TV has Apple TV on the remote and the Apple App is pre-loaded on the Roku tv. BUT...it kept giving an error message. No amount of YouTube fixes or tv reseting could make it work. Anyhoo...I plugged it in, attached it via the html cord to my html 1 output on the tv and it immediately started up. It took me through all the hoops apple makes you jump through upon set up, but in the end guess what? IT WORKED! WOOHOO! I was concerned it might not for two reasons. 1) My new ROKU TCL 4k smart tv seemed to have a vendetta against apple tv (even though it was build in!) and 2) my new tv is 4k and this unit is only HD 32GB 2nd Gen Apple TV. I read all the reviews to see if anyone had problems with these techs being incompatible but no one had mentioned it? So fingers were crossed. In the end, there was nothing to worry about. I can watch all my shows on Apple TV again! Now, if you are a gamer or use the unit in some more demanding fashion I can not vouch for its responsiveness on a 4k tv. I just need my Morning Show and Ted Lasso fix. But for those fighting the frustrating fight with a smart tv that won't load Apple TV...this seems to be a real fix. I got it on Black Friday sale for about $60. But I'd pay the $100 or whatever it is to get this unit. My stress levels are down and my home entertainment is back up! It's a nice unit.
Coming from a Roku Ultra the Apple interface and tvOS is far superior-both in speed and the apps like YouTube and Netflix can be switched and you'll pickup where you left off as it's like an iPhone where they're treated as Apps where you can have multiple open where you can switch back-and-forth or swipe up to quit.
