Aputure Light Storm LS 60x Bi-Colour LED Light

The LS 60x is a batterypowerable bicolor focusing LED that uses custom aspherical optics to achieve a 1545° spotflood beam angle with intense output and flexibility. The LS 60x punches way above its weight class as a 60W Expanded BiColor Focusing LED fixture that outclasses the output of a 300W tungsten Fresnel and outpaces comparable LED lights. With its custom, Aputure aspherical optics, the LS 60x (@ 5600K) can output 30,000+ lux in full spot, or 5,200+ lux in flood mode. Matching the LS 300x, the LS 60x features an expanded bicolor CCT range of 2700K6500K, with builtin CCT presets, to give filmmakers the ability to add just a touch of warmer or cooler colors to their scene. The LS 60x Bicolor LED continues Aputure's ambition to provide highquality, coloraccurate LEDs to all filmmakers, with CRI/TLCI scores of 95+, and SSI (Tungsten) of 86, and an SSI (D56) of 74. Designed to withstand the rigors of any film set, the LS 60x lamp head u0026DC power connector feature a weatherresistant design as a sign of its durability, so filmmakers can feel free to take it on any adventure.

The lens has it's own yoke/mount and being much heavier than the light even with a beefy Vmount battery on it you pretty much need to use that one to put this whole thing on the stand. Then the light clips onto the lens with the barndoor tabs and SPRING lock. There is nothing to keep the light upright at this point so it rotates to equilibrium depending on what, if anything, is clipped to the V-mount and where you have locked the now unused light yoke. For me it is usually at a 45 degree with the spring just barely holding the light in place. I tried mounting the whole rig to the stand through the light's yoke, excited that this would then let me rotate the shutters, which is impossible otherwise, and frequently necessary. Well the little spring on the barndoor locking clip is definitely not rated for that and the lens fell off. So I guess the need for the toothed washer is that this light comes with a Bowens mount adapter and someone will want to put the Dome II on the front of it. Options, I mostly love them.

While there are certainly a lot of differences between the Dedo DLED 7 and the LS60X, all things considered I've found the 60x to be an amazing light and superior in many ways. It certainly doesn't have the punch to be a key light (of course, neither does the DLED7), but the price point makes it possible to buy several kits and use them as fill, hair, and splash lights for the background. And that's exactly why I own 4 of them!

Brilliant! Affordable! Maybe even ground-breaking!

From the build quality to the power to the very clever design and engineering, the LS 60x hits the sweet spot for me and the type of work I do. Easy to set up - and the holder for both the Sony battery, or plug-in AC, or V mount - it's so simple a solution but one that has been missing on so many lights by so many manufacturers for way too long. The knobs and buttons are sturdy, the LED read-out crisp, bright, and clear. The ease in which to manipulate temperature and brightness - it's all top-notch - as is the really great carrying case that houses it all. It's beyond expectations at this price point. Great work, Aputure!

Great, versatile light!
18 January 2023

It?s a really versatile light with a ton of features packed in. The built-in fresnel lens and multiple power options that come included with the light are incredibly useful. You don?t have to buy additional battery adapters for this, which is just so convenient. The build quality is also super solid and feels great to use. My only complaint in that regard is the dangling cable that?s attached to the light, which can sometimes get in the way but that?s pretty minor. The light is fairly slim and lightweight so it?ll fit on most light stands as long as you don?t put heavy modifiers on it. The output is also not crazy, although it is very impressive for being a 60w fixture. I would say that it?s comparable if not a little bit brighter than my amaran 100d, although I ... MoreIt?s a really versatile light with a ton of features packed in. I?ve seen other reviews compare the output to 300w fixtures, but I?m not sure how accurate that is. Overall, I am very happy with the amount of features that are packed into this light.

Perfect for weddings!
23 July 2021

I mainly wanted this light to use for weddings and I think the features it has make it one of the best lights for this use especially. For one, it has multiple power options. You can use V-Mount, Sony NPF batteries or wall power, with the adapters included in the case for each option. I love being able to focus the light to spot as well, super handy for controlling where the light goes. Finally, the bi-color option is great too. I always try to match the lighting to that of the environment and being able to do this quickly and even from your phone is super handy. I can?t wait to have a network of these and just control them from my phone. Definitely recommended!

Stopped working after one week
14 April 2022

I was very excited to get my first Aputure light. Got it in about a week ago and set it up. I have used it about 4-6 hours and then all of the sudden it powered itself down. Now when I power it on it only stays on for about 5 seconds and then powers down. I found a video on youtube from a guy that had a similar issue with a 120. His solution was to nudge the cooling fan with a screwdriver as it had become stuck. Mine looks to be stuck also but I don't want to stick a screwdriver in there to see if that fixes it. I put a ticket in with Aputure and am awaiting a response.

The perfect little light
19 October 2022

I'm a fan of Aputure products in general, but this one especially has been so well thought out. It's so easy to use in so many different situations, whether you're running and gunning with a V-mount or you're plugged in to a studio wall. The bi-color means I don't have to worry about gels or matching ambient. And it's surprisingly bright. Put a battery and a softbox on it, and you can have someone hold it (like a mobile tripod) and get a bunch of different shots really quickly. I love this light.

This fixture has more output than a 300w fresnel!

Love this light, the optics provide a smooth beam spread, it spots and floods better than my arri 300w fresnel, it also has a lot more output. The included barn doors are nice, and the bowens mount adapter works well! Right out of the box its compatible with aputure or other bowens mount lanterns and softboxes. The powercord is just a IEC cable instead of neutrik like a lot of pro lights but I see this as a positive, replacements are easily available and that keeps the cost low, plenty of cable length for me.When you mount the power supply the cable hangs perfectly straight down, no worrying about cable wear. Very versatile, clean beam
26 November 2021

The optics built into this lens means it behaves like a classic tungsten fresnel with some of the additional benefits of a Dedo light: it projects a very clean beam that you can properly cut, and the zoom control offers a useful ability to control the size of the beam. The punchy output and bicolor adjustment, combined with its compact size (which fits in an included case), make this an extremely useful light. The included adapters to use inexpensive NP-F or p-tap batteries further add to its versatility, and the clever ability to attach these plate to the yoke makes it easy to rig.Nitpicks: in a perfect world, I'd prefer the ability to lock the rotation control in smaller increments-though I imagine the current design ensures the light will be stable with larger ... MoreThe optics built into this lens means it behaves like a classic tungsten fresnel with some of the additional benefits of a Dedo light: it projects a very clean beam that you can properly cut, and the zoom control offers a useful ability to control the size of the beam. And as is common to many designs, you get some light leaks around the barn doors (at a right angle to the lens).Anyway, great light, it really fills a hole in my kit. I'm the future, I'd love an even smaller version that allows for a smaller spot.

Worth The Very Long Wait
26 January 2022

I ordered the Aputure Light Storm LS 60x the day they announced them. I own 2x Light Storm 120 D's and a 300 D. They have been great, until one of them recently stopped working. I decided to replace it was the LS 60X. I liked the small form factor, Bi-color option, zoom feature and the battery options. Plus barn doors came with it as well as a Bowen's mount so all my Aputure Soft Boxes would be compatible. My order was placed in Jan. and Covid happened in February. And I waited and waited and waited for this light to arrive. Then one day it just showed up. Like a year and 2 months later. That said the light is everything I hoped for plus. It's much smaller, water resistant and takes 2 Sony batteries. Having the portability has been amazing. The zoom feature is great, the dials easy to use and its still freakin bright. The only complaint is the way the Bowen's is mounted. It's a little cumbersome and feels like it has some unwanted movement when locked in place. Beyond that I'm tempted to sell my 120's and 300 and get a couple more of these LS 60X LED's.
