I've had a lot of fish tank filters, Canister, Cartridge, Internal and External. They have all been messy, hard to clean, noisy, ugly and leaky with the exception of the Aqua One 800. The Aqua One works well, is unobtrusive. simple to clean, quiet and inexpensive both to buy and maintain. I would certainly recommend it.

Temperamental, wont start unless water is at max height of the tank, & you have to coax it with water top ups to try and gain momentum to work on its own, overheats easily, doesnt filter well. Get a proper filter because this isnt one.
It appears to do its job. I'm using it to filter a tank of axylottls.
It is a great cheap hang on filter that does the job but needed an extra sponge added into it as there isn't any, just a few carbon beads in a disposable fibre packet which would clog with debris from a planted tank in a couple of days. It's great now I've added the filter sponge. My other filter is an old aquaclear I've had for years so those who have one of those would understand my post lol!

(Intake tube) The cartridges are easily changed and can be adapted to suit other media's as well. I run planted tanks and do not use carbon. Keeps water Crystal clear Due to filter body colour you can clearly see when the media needs to be cleaned for changed. Super efficient, power saving only 3.8W for 300LPH Space saving and compact. Body shell is Durable will not warp over time its super quiet you can run this filter in a bedroom. Being an AQUA ONE PRODUCT you can Rely on replacement parts that can be sourced through your local dealer or online. one negative to this filter is cleaning the intake tube bend. The filter is working overtime but as yet the water hasnt become clear.
My Aqua One was very noisy. The retailer eventually agreed to test it, by which time it wasn't working. He told me to contact Aqua One who stated this model was very quiet, ignored the recording of the noise from my filter that I emailed to them and stated they would not communicate any further.
