I needed a rain jacket as I coach outside in the elements. I bought two other jackets that didn't work for me. The REI Rainier jacket that was fairly uncomfortable inside. I returned it and tried the Kuhl Stretch Voyager, which was super comfortable, but wetted through the first hard rain I stood in. I was tired of being frustrated so I decided to spend the money on the Arc'teryx Beta LT. So far it seems to bead the water up nicely and keep me dry. It's not as comfortable on the inside as the Kuhl was, which is a shame, but it does what it's intended to do. I wanted the black color, but couldn't find it in stock anywhere, so I went with the dark blue. The sizing was tricky for me. I bought an XL, which fits my body. I'm hoping this jacket will hold up for a long time since it's pretty expensive.

The Macai is a good not great on piste jacket. I’m 6’1” with a classic dad bod and the large fits perfect with plenty long sleeves for my positive ape index arms. The boxcar color is great, nice and neutral not to garish. The jacket is more than warm enough for those chilly days on the mountain, it’s still early season so we will have to see if I’ll need more than just a base layer under it when it dips into the single digits or lower, but probably not. The removable powder skirt is nice with two different snap levels for adjusting fit, the ability to take it off when I just want a warm coat for around town is great. The insulated hood isn’t to bulky and has awesome hidden snaps so when you’re wearing it without the hood it looks natural. The goggle cleaner cloth is nice with its long stretchy tether but I didn’t like a wad of cording and cloth in my pocket when I was wearing the jacket not on the mountain. My biggest gripe and why I’m giving it 4 stars is the zippered pockets are hard to use while using the heavier gloves I wear at the resort, the one chest pocket is to small to be useful while wearing any but the thinnest gloves and the water resistant style zippers on the sides have small pull tabs and bind up when wearing gloves. Nitpicky maybe but I expect better on high end jackets. Overall a good jacket that could use a few pocket improvement to really tip it over the edge into awesome.

I own lots of shirts and jackets from this company, and most things have been exceptional quality. I’m not sure if this is a quality issue or a one-off, but if you need support after purchase, you may be out of luck.

My family members have been loyal Arc’teryx customers, and they convinced me it was worth the price for the impeccable customer service and no-questions-asked repairs. Well, that was before COVID. Ever since then, Arc’teryx has followed suit with every other company by shrugging off their responsibilities and customer-forward policies. When I bought the jacket I was convinced to do so thinking the company stood by their product and catered to their customers. Now I see that Arc’teryx products are no longer backed by their company making them all overpriced - especially when compared to every other premium outdoor equipment brand that still backs their products. I will never buy Arc’teryx again, and I see no reason for anyone else to either. This jacket got torn while skiing - doing what it was advertised to do - and I was offered 20% off my next order from Arc’teryx or a repair at above-market rates. Well there won’t be another order from Arc’teryx.
Got it just in time for the rainy weather in BC. I bought this jkt to walk my dog. I like the bright yellow so cars can see me at night. However, after one use I got a bit of dirt on it from the dog park. Some of it wiped away on the spot with tissue paper but other marks seemed to soak right into the fabric and even using a little mild detergent when I got home didn’t get it out. Not sure how the jkt is going to wear over time because of this. The fit is also a bit weird. I’m generally between a sm & med. I’m 5’1” and approx 135lbs and I got a med to layer. The chest and stomach area is roomy but the bum/hip area (I think I’m pretty average in size) is really small and because it’s a bit longer style in the back doesn’t look really flattering on me. I can’t use the cinch function on the bottom because theres no extra fabric for that intended use. So far the waterproofness is good and was beading off of me during the hour I was out. I think it’s also worth mentioning that the hood is massive! After a few adjustments it was comfortable and worked well for me but I wouldn’t get this model if you are wearing it for light use. The hood and massive collar doesn’t sit nicely and isn’t particularly “fashionable” if that’s what you are going for
I had the previous version of the Beta LT jacket. Awesome jacket. Truly one of my best purchases ever. But the goretex fabric layers started to delaminate a bit (manufacturing defect) so I returned the jacket under warranty and got my money back in store credit.I got the new revised Beta LT and it’s just not the same. I had to return it. The material feels a tiny bit less durable than the previous one. When I poured some water on the sleeve, it would kinda bead off but nowhere near as good as the previous version. As mentioned by other people, you’d probably get soaked if you wore this in the rain for longer than 20 minutes. The one upside is the pit zips on this new jacket. I have the Beta AR jacket from a couple of years ago, and in early Spring got this Beta LT in the (now unavailable) bright yellow. Each rain-jacket has kept my hips and torso bone-dry when out in moderate to heavy rains during hour to half-day hikes in northern Cali and SoCal canyons and mountains. Difference between shells is, LT is lighter and the pit-zips are a little shorter than the AR pit-zips, which probably accounts, somewhat, for the LT's lightness and packability. I read reviews on this shell's lack of waterproofness, but that hasn't been my experience on this particular shell, or with the AR. I have tried so many raincoats, from uber cheap to high-end; Arc'teryx shells have been the only brand so far that I can trust to protect my insulators and basewear ... MoreI have the Beta AR jacket from a couple of years ago, and in early Spring got this Beta LT in the (now unavailable) bright yellow. I have not worn them in snow. I got a size up, XXL, for layering, and fit is perfect. I practiced adjusting the hood before I went on my first rainy-day hike, and was able to flip the hood up easily for effective face/neck protection. Hood-brim in front keeps rain off my glasses so I don't have to bring a ball-cap. Pockets are super roomy and I haven't had issues with keeping items dry. Front and pocket zippers work smoothly. Lastly--the (currently unavailable) bright yellow keeps me safer on the road. It also instantly cheers me up, and brings unexpected smiles from others on road and trail.
I am delighted to write this review for the Arc'teryx Men's Macai Insulated Jacket. Of course, when I first received the jacket, I explored it to make certain that it had ample pockets. There are two side pockets (zippered) and a smaller zippered pocket on the left arm. This latter pocket will be used for storing my ski pass. There is another internal zipper pocket on the left side, as well as a large pouch pocket on the right. I wore the jacket in temperatures in the 30s with 15 mph sustained winds, which placed the wind chill in the mid-20s. The jacket was about as windproof as you can get. I wore a wool ear band, but also used the hood for additional protection. The jacket is comfortable. I'm 5'8" and 165 lbs with broad shoulders – the jacket size is Large. Fits great and it is comfortable to wear. I was initially apprehensive about the color, but it's a great color and goes well with my hazel-green eyes and white hair! The ski area where I downhill ski is not open yet due to lack of snow, but I look forward to wearing this jacket for my downhill skiing. I know that it will work great, be comfortable and warm.
I am a chubby type, 1,78m for 93kg with muscular torso but some arising beer belly ;-) and i bought the Beta Lite jacket for mountain-biking in L size.I already use the Beta Ar jacket ( L size) for powder snowboarding , all conditions, and just love it :-).The Beta Lite has a storm hood ( means no collar hampering air flow when front zip is open ) and kinda a longer back protecting you when pedalling.Fine.But due to sizing update in Winter 23/24 season, the belly is now much tighter, making it impossible to wear anything more than a technical first layer plus a light fleece ( 100 g /m2 ) under the jacket ... i guess the sizing update was a bit too radical ; note to haters : shoulders are exactly fitting, and chest is fine tuned to my Swimmer's upperbody. Every cent you invest in this jacket is worth it, and this rapidly becomes apparent upon wearing it. Like all Arc’teryx products, the quality is there to be seen, felt and experienced. I’ve owned a few iterations of this jacket over the years and it has become progressively more streamlined, stripped down and light weight. The new fabric is a game changer; lighter, more breathable and with a vastly improved next to skin feeling. Pit zips are crucial for high output activities and they are generous enough to really cool you down when needed. Rubber zippers, seam seals and the fabric all combine to make a fortress impenetrable to even the heaviest downpour. The cut is modern and flattering and allows unrestricted movement. Rubber zippers, seam seals and the fabric all combine to make a fortress impenetrable to even the heaviest downpour. The cut is modern and flattering and allows unrestricted movement. The hood design is a triumph of design, and allows great flexibility and customization. It sheds rain, keeps your head dry and allows the water to run off without getting in your eyes or sneaking into the jacket itself. Having said that, I would love to see this jacket (or another model) available with a smaller, more refined hood. This hood would not be helmet compatible, but it would create a more streamlined look and feel and open up more uses for general hiking and urban wear. You can feel a little silly wearing this hood while watching your kids play sport. The occasional person is going to ask you when you arrived back from a South Pole expedition. Another option would be to make the hood stow-able (like my 10 year old version of the Alpha SV). The jacket could also do with a chest zip pocket for a mobile phone, as when wearing it as a shell the only option for a phone is within the lower hand pockets (where a phone tends to gets in the way). But overall this jacket is a winner, and is quite versatile in its current form.
