I have always thought of Arc'teryx as clothing for the name brand. But after recently having the opportunity to grab the proton hoody my entire perspective changed! I think the quality and materials fit exactly the description and activities I get up to. I really like the embroidered touches too. Im 6'8 and got the 2xl which amazes me of how well it fits with arm length vs torso length. The hoody cinch has been the biggest surprise! It actually works and snugs the face well without overhanging into your eyes if you choose not to wear a hat/helmet underneath.Super lightweight, and the breathability vs warmth is surprisingly really good. Been raving about it to a lot of my mates so I am stoked

My old Proton Lt is my favorite mid layer in winter. It’s comfy, and just warm enough under a parka for blizzards and temps below freezing. With that I was excited to see a warmer version of it with a couple extra features that I always look for.The pocket configuration is perfect: Two chest, two lined hand warmer pockets, and two dump pockets inside (all winter jackets should have these). External chest pockets are way better in winter in my opinion so you are not unzipping to get at stuff. It’s a great spot for a phone. The liner material is very very thin and I’m a tad concerned about that, but time will tell. I also wish that they dropped to 80gsm in the sleeves and hood instead of 60. I received this as a gift from a client of mine, and I am very happy with how it’s lasted me for the past 2 years. It’s survived New England (Massachusetts) weather pretty well, and does great in the snow and rain. I took away one star because I would have liked to have pockets on the inside of the jacket, but the fit is great (5’10”, 180lbs, L). It’s light and keeps me warm. Minus one star since the DWR has basically worn off, and isn’t what it used to be, so it looks soggy when wet. Pairs well with an Arc’teryx gaiter! Especially with the matching color and logo.

Arcteryx has completely abandoned its quality control measures. I have over 10 pcs (atom, proton, beta lt, beta ar, atom vest, cerium jacket, fleece sweaters, etc.. and ALL of them are in size M (I'm 5'11, 170lbs). My sister (who lives in the US) bought this for me since she knows I wear size M and sent it over as a present so I can't even return it. This thing fits horrendously, it's like wearing a big garbage bag, the sleeves are unrealistically long and wide, the torso is huge (like a plus-sized jacket) while the neck, hoodie and back length are the same. the old proton used to have a more sleek fit which was easy to layer under the shells but i can't imagine layering this one under any shell comfortably. Excellent material. I have the Sabre midlayer and regular proton in black. The difference besides the fit and function is of course the horrible chemical smell. I refuse to take the chance to wash it out and lose the ability to return it. My question is: why don’t the Sabre midlayer and proton hoody which are the same material and color have the same awful smell??? Frustrating for sure.Fit of Thai jacket is slightly baggy even for me at 6’ 205 lbs ( give or take) in a size large. I would absolutely keep this jacket for cold weather hiking if not for the odor of the black dye. I will likely return it and try the Eden color instead. Hopefully that one doesn’t stink as badly.

I use it to throw over a Proton Lightweight and a baselayer when I've sweat-out my layers skinning uphill. It keeps me warm and breathes enough to allow the layers underneath to dry out. Putting a shell over this really cranks up the heat. Since my use is fairly specific to layering over already pretty substantial layers I went a size UP to keep things roomy and the fit was just what I needed. No... this does not look runway-ready on me by itself. If I were to wear this for the good looks Arc'teryx is known for, I would wear my normal size L and it would probably be more fashionably acceptable. However, this is a technical piece with room for gloves and hats in some big ole dump pockets (two) on the inside, two chest pockets for random things you end up stashing/reaching-for in a day in the backcountry, and two hand pockets for even more odds and ends. After stuffing gloves, snacks, random knick-knacks, and detritus into those pockets, you're going to look lumpy; and rightly so. The fabric is so silky and nice inside and out that it's honestly tempting to wear it all the time. The cord adjustments keep out drafts at the hem (using what I consider to be the less handy cord tensioners which aren't the sqeeze-to-release kind) and cinch down the cavernous hood (with a squeeze-to-release tensioner!) with ONE bungee cord instead of two like on the hardshells. The single bungee tightens across the forehead, under the ears, and back around the base of the skull where the tensioner lives; so a single tensioner is actually entirely sufficient and makes for a comfortable result. The zippers are top notch of course. The chest pocket material is a fair bit more burly than the already pretty tough Fortius Air 50 outer fabric (and less silky) and I don't worry about anything inside them poking a hole through it. This is a keeper with, for me, a fairly specific but crucial role in keeping me useful in the mountains all day. Oh, and it's a sight warmer than the Proton LT, which I also own, due to noticeably thicker insulation as well as the hardier face fabric.

Soft, stretchy, breathable and warm, this is the most comfortable and versatile jacket I have ever worn and it will be used every day this winter.
Most comfortable daily wear jacket I have. It's soft, warm, and breathable. I bought it to wear under a shell for skiing, but have not had a chance to use it for that use case. In the meantime, I wear it almost everyday, when I expected to just keep it in my closet until ski season.The fit isn't as flattering as my other Arcteryx stuff. Not sure if it's because of the puffiness, but I wear it a lot in spite of that. I do wish they made a non-hoody version. I tried the Atom, but the Proton is superior in terms of insulation and feel.
