The Proton FL (old version) has become my go-to winter active jacket. For XC (skate) skiing or running I find it comfortable over just a base tee from about 25-35F, a bit warmer unzipped and colder with a long sleeve base layer.My only complaint with the FL was the sleeve length. I bought this jacket a year ago to replace another brands similar light weight synthetic light “puffy.” Unlike those other light jackets that look like a light puffy with quilted thin nylon over insulation, the Protons outer fabric is much more stylish for around town and the office. Taken it climbing on multiple occasions and have been really satisfied with how it moves and stretches under a harness. Similarly, it breathes well once you start moving on the wall or on the approach. Hood fits over a helmet as well. The inner fleece lining is incredibly comfortable and feels great. I purchased this about a month ago and have been wearing it regularly for walks, hikes and general day to day activities. I haven’t don’t anything crazy with it or taken it on any trips. I’m giving it three stars because the functionality of this jacket is one of the best I’ve ever had from Arc’teryx. It’s lightweight but heavy enough to provide warmth on cooler days and breathes very well through activities or on warmer days. Tried a few options as I thought it was a bit short at first. However after review and comparing to my delta hybrid, it’s a little boxier. Arc considers this a “fitted” however it’s more like an atom LT similar to a “regular” fit. After tightening the hem drawcord I find it fits me better. I’m not slim, more athletic however on the revised it’s a tad boxier than my delta hybrid. It allowed my body to comfortable vent without feeling smothered by the fabric. When my body temperature started tolower, the jacket provided a comfortable degree of warmth in both snow and spring desert conditions. I read in other reviews how some commented on the Proton's deficient in terms in wind protection, but I found how the jacket lets a refreashing breath of outside air in occasionally to be the exact opposite of a problem and welcoming. Have had this jacket for 5-6 yrs and am very happy with its quality and performance. I use it primarily for day hikes in cool to cold weather and have used it couple hundred times. I’m 5’11” 175 and medium fits me well. Fitted but not tight. With temperatures in the 35-45 range I find myself wishing I had more insulation but after a few minutes exertion I’m comfortable. The exterior is quite durable and sheds dirt well.I’ve been wearing Arcteryx since 1999-2000 and have my share of their stuff but this and the kyanite hoody get the most use. I also love my Proton LT but generally to warm for it most of the year in Georgia.

Since the weather's becoming warmer, I decided to wash my wife's Proton and Atom because Arcteryx Kitsilano doesn't techwash non Gore-tex and Down jackets/hoodies. Please note that we are very meticulous when it comes to pricey clothing so we make it a point to use Laundry mesh bags when washing and our washer is front load.After washing, to my surprise, I noticed a rip on my wife's Proton!!! We don't go outdoors and we only use our hoodies casually around the city and whatnot. So I thought about visiting the Kitsilano Store to hopefully get a warranty since it wasn't any damage that we caused. Then I just washed it carefully and it rips???Not much help was offered and no customer service at all - doesn't really appeal to me. Honestly, the patch is an eye sore! I would accept the guy's solution if I have caused the issue, however I'm sure I didn't. Arcteryx should stand by their pricey products and should choose their employees better. We are not buying from Arctery anymore. Just hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

After two days of hiking I had pilling under the armpits and across my shoulders from my backpack straps. I also had pulled threads EVERYWHERE. Seriously, there must have been 30-50 small pulls on every part of the jacket from basic wear. No bushwhacking here! Open-ground hiking.
