Consisting of GORE-TEX Pro Most Rugged technology, waterproof taped seams and a triple-layer design, both rain and snow have no chance against this waterproof hardshell jacket. Plus, WaterTight zips, a high collar and a helmet-compatible StormHood also increase the jacket’s waterproofness. In addition, accumulated sweat won’t be an issue anymore thanks to the membrane because moisture will reliably escape to the outside where it can evaporate. And, if you get too warm, just open the zips at the armpits for some fresh air. But, the Alpha SV Jacket wouldn’t be complete without storage space. That’s why it comes equipped with small pockets on the sleeves, an inside pocket and two high pockets that are easily accessible when wearing a climbing harness. An added bonus: a practical Recco reflector is featured on the Alpha SV Jacket. So convenient!

I bought this jacket 2019. I use recreationally. Hikes, walking the dog, occasional run. It's the best rain jacket I've ever owned. Amazing fit, comfortable, keeps me insanely dry.The main zipper failed last year, and they replaced this no question. Still disappointed that the zipper failed on a $1000 jacket after 2 yrs light use.I sent the jacket in again earlier this summer. Goretex had delaminated and one of the seams had come apart. They said it was due to contamination and refused to fix.Super disappointed. It's an amazing jacket, but the quality is lacking if you're looking for a bomb-proof shell to last you a lifetime. Not worth $1000 IMO.

I've owned the Alpha SV for 3 years. On the mountains, I use it primarily for skiing and mountaineering. I've also found it incredibly valuable as a soccer coach in the Pacific Northwest. I love the simple versatility of the design. The pockets are perfect for holding ski passes, maps, and phone, easily accessible even with gloves. I've taken this jacket into white out blizzard conditions with wind whipping past me at 11,000 feet and didn't feel a thing. The water and weather proofing is incredible. The hood goes over helmets easily, and the zippers respond when temperatures change and I need to open up the pit zips off the chairs. On a whim I wore it coaching on the sidelines in a downpour - tired of my "coaching" jackets not keeping me dry - and I'll never go back ... MoreI've owned the Alpha SV for 3 years. Excellent gear!

I just picked up the Alpha SV jacket in the new Bordeaux color. Really loving this jacket! It provides great protection against snowstorms and high winds, which we have had a lot of this winter here in northern Nevada. The craftsmanship is timeless. I feel this jacket will last a lifetime and then some. The features are also what you would expect from Arcteyx. Pocket layout, zippers and seams, and the pull-tie designs to ensure a snug fit are all top shelf. This jacket is well with the money! I'm 5-6 and 150lbs and it fits great. On a cold miserable day with temps in the teens, heavy snow, and winds 45+mph, I was feeling perfect with a base and mid layer. Loving this!

This jacket is hard shell perfection! I don’t need to go on about how tough this jacket is, as this has been commented on many times. What really impressed me was how light and packable this jacket is for its capabilities! I will not likely use my mid weight hard shell again. As expected, water proofness is a non-issue. Breathability is great. The fabric is very stiff, but not uncomfortable or problematic. This jacket does fit large. I almost always wear a size large in Arcteryx jackets. I could likely have gone for a medium. I swim a little in this jacket unless I have an insulating piece under it. Im 6’2” and 190 lbs.Overall, I love it. Highly recommended! Buy it and love it forever.

Terrible Service
17 February 2023

I bought the SV jacket in 2019. It worked well until the Fall of 2022 when the zipper stuck. I took the time and expense of submitting it, a lengthy and unsatisfying hassle, for repair at the Arc'teryx repair facility in Canada. They refused to even fix the zipper, saying it was due to coming delaminated. I washed the jacket regularly with Nikktech Direct Wax. When I bought it, I understood it was guaranteed for life. They offered to I've me $130 for the jacket, which they would repair and sell through their website. However, after being treated like I was, I have no desire to buy another Arc'teryx product. Something has happened to this company. They have no desire any longer to stand behind their products. I

This shell is an absolute tank. Despite my best efforts to destroy it over the past two ski seasons, it appears to be brand new. It functions in a few capacities for me:1. Midwinter shell in my touring pack. While not breathable enough for uphill travel unless its seriously windy or stormy, the shell is perfect for descents, slower technical climbing with skis involved, and the sharp, tree-lined exits here in SW Montana. I've run nearly full speed into trees and rocks, and the shell shows... nothing. In the spring, I switch over to either the Alpha FL or even Squamish, but this is a perfect midwinter shell.2. Resort use. I only ride chairs 3-4 days/year, so this is perfect for me. No need for a dedicated resort shell. If you are a frequent resort skier, you ... MoreThis shell is an absolute tank. If you are a frequent resort skier, you might want more features and comfort (powder skirt, neck liner), but this shell even has an arm pocket that functions as a pass holder. For me, at 5'7", the hem length is more than adequate to keep me dry.3. Extreme weather layer when alpine climbing. On a typical day, I will hopefully not need it. But when I do, it's indispensable - the storm hood and general weather resistance can prevent a good day from becoming very uncomfortable.I am normally a S, and am comfortably XS in this shell. This fit still allows for layering a base / mid and insulation under. For most folks on most days, this shell is likely overkill, but if you want to absolute best and most hardcore shell, look no further.

This Jacket Saved My Life
8 August 2022

On the 7th of July 2022, I went to Iceland for an expedition we planned to explore some of the land's glaciers. First day, we walked up to 500 meters, everything went fine when we reached our camp. The next day, we climbed the next 1100 meters. During our trek, we experienced a huge sudden storm of rain and wind. We were about to cross glacier rivers, but the wind was so strong. It was blowing over people and things at a weight of 80 kg. There were other people who experienced hypothermia. 20 people got airlifted out from the area. It was an emergency status.I was wearing the Beta AR Pant and the Alpha SV Jacket. When we got back to the camp safely, I ended up being the only person in our group completely dry. Everyone was soaking wet.If it weren't for my Arc'teryx gear, I would of been wet and cold, and who knows -- possibly getting hypothermia too. This jacket was so expensive, but the quality is there. It is worth every penny when you are in a severe weather scenario, and it literally saved my life.To this day, I thank God and my Alpha SV for keeping me dry and safe there in the Icelandic mountains during that abrupt storm.

Underwhelmed due poor jacket finishing in design
20 November 2022

I spent a lot of time carefully selecting my choice of new goretex ahead of my winter mountain leader assessment this season and spending the dizzying cost of £680 on a single item reflected how critical the shell is to my comfort and survival in the outdoors in a normal Scottish winter.Sorry for being brutal, I feel the Arcteryx design team have lived in coffee shops and warm offices a little too long venturing into the hills on those bright sunny days the rest of us get once or twice a year! The rest of us go out in the grim days of rain, blizzards and clang and require out products to perform to support our efforts. So why am I left feeling underwhelmed…The fit and style is good however the jacket is regrettably left lacking as a flagship product due to the ... MoreI spent a lot of time carefully selecting my choice of new goretex ahead of my winter mountain leader assessment this season and spending the dizzying cost of £680 on a single item reflected how critical the shell is to my comfort and survival in the outdoors in a normal Scottish winter.Sorry for being brutal, I feel the Arcteryx design team have lived in coffee shops and warm offices a little too long venturing into the hills on those bright sunny days the rest of us get once or twice a year! The rest of us go out in the grim days of rain, blizzards and clang and require out products to perform to support our efforts. So why am I left feeling underwhelmed…The fit and style is good however the jacket is regrettably left lacking as a flagship product due to the lack of pockets. We all know you can never have enough pockets where we stash food, gloves, hats, maps, guides, compass, satnav and everything else we carry for easy access on exped. The only other option is we carry this in our rucksack so constantly stopping. Perhaps this the intention for those using the jacket in a walk in the rain through the city to the office with a bag and briefcase. Full marks for the sleeve pocket and two chest pockets however the jacket misses two others pockets on the chest in my opinion. The fit and hood are great however I would like to be honest that these are basics to a design and at this price I would expect a finished product. Inner pockets are acceptable if a little on the small side and disappointed there is no snow skirt as this preserves heat, aids ventilation and stops the poor weather pushing up the jacket at the front (back protected by rucksack). Finally the finishing… I feel Arc’ have missed this step! zip pulls are poor and not attached to the slider but the pull so need replacing and existing difficult to operate with gloved hands. No D rings to attach critical kit to prevent loss and this could have been something as simple as a loop of ribbon or ribbon with small D ring.I would be happy to discuss the lack of core features to a claimed flagship product with the design team while I’m considering returning the jacket and sorry for writing such disappointing feedback. For a few extra pennies (dimes) spent by Arcteryx this “could” have been a fantastic jacket.PS as outdoor professionals get such a reduction it’s easy to understand why the company isn’t receiving the brutal feedback the organisation requires unless the desire is as a cafe waterproof and walks in the park on a wet day.

Very Disappointed...
9 February 2023

I purchased this jacket a year ago specifically because it was promoted as the most durable jacket and is still made in Vancouver. I purchased it directly from Arc'teryx's website so it is not an internet fake by any means and I still have the receipt. My use of the jacket has not been extreme by any measures yet two weeks ago while skiing in Ontario the armpit seam completely split open. I followed up on the warranty and the response time has been drastically slow. I eventually called in and was told that further photos are required and that they will likely try and repair it. I have still not heard back a confirmation on what next steps are. I have many Arc'teryx products and did not hesitate to pay premium for this specific item as my hopes were it would last many years given it is their most durable shell. It barely made it past one year and now I am having difficulty in getting the item replaced. Very unfortunate situation that I am hoping is rectified soon.
