Made of waterproof, breathable and windproof fabric, the Arc'teryx Beta AR women's winter sports hooded jacket is the do everything garment created to deliver performance versatility in mountain environments. This highly versatile multipurpose shell with hybrid construction offers full protection for diverse activities in alpine conditions. It offers a regular fit that accommodates comfortably an under layer and a hood with an internal collar for more comfort in storms, climbing, skiing or simply enjoying the outdoors. This outer layer is famous for its remarkable performances across a wide range of activities: this is The Dynamo of the Beta family. Layering is the key of keeping you dry, warm and using your energy efficiently. Put into the right systems, a good sequence of layers moves moisture away from your skin, conserves or dissipates heat and provides you with weather protection. Here they are. The first layer, worn next-to-skin will provide warmth and quickly move moisture away from your skin. Then, the second layer, is the insulation and fleece, that provides warmth while also dissipating heat during periods of high output. And finally, the third layer, the shell, which is the most weather-protective layer, worn on the outside of all other layers.

If you are confused about which Arc'teryx Beta to get since there are so many options:- Arc'teryx Beta SV- Arc'teryx Beta AR- Arc'teryx Beta LT Hadron- Arc'teryx Beta LT- Arc'teryx BetaThis jacket is the best option because both SV and AR are too stiff and heavy (good for extreme weather, but too heavy/warm for all other weather) and other editions do not have arm pit zipper. Trust me, you will want that arm pit zipper. One bad thing is Arc'teryx do not provide a lot of color options on purpose. They do rotate the colors, but it may take few years for your color to appear. They are not insulated, but they do keep you warm in cooler weather.

I purchased this jacket because I was looking for a three-layer Goretex jacket that I could use for running and for all-around outdoor wear. I have tried other three-layer Goretex jackets - this 40 denier jacket is slightly heavier than the 30 denier jacket I have used by another brand, making it a tiny smidge heavier and more crinkly, but also slightly more durable. In comparison to that other jacket, the Arcteryx has more features and overall better engineering. The waist draw cord, for example, is easier to use. The hood has more capability for adjustment, with potential for being tightened horizontally and vertically. The brim is very well-fitted, hanging down slightly in front of my face to block drizzle, sleet or snow when I'm out running (it's not only ... MoreI purchased this jacket because I was looking for a three-layer Goretex jacket that I could use for running and for all-around outdoor wear. The pit zips have two way zippers so I can adjust them to sit any way I like! Size-wise, I noticed some women find this jacket slightly big. I am 5'8" and 122 lbs and I would have to say it is comparable in sizing to other goretex jackets I have tried. There's enough room to layer underneath (I wore it running last night in -17 weather layering a long-sleeved sweat-wicking layer, a 200 gm long-sleeved merino shirt, a micro-fleece sweater and the Arcteryx Atom LT hooded jacket) and the fit was comfortable. The shell was warm and breathed well, I had enough room to move, I did not feel constricted. I have had quality/warranty issues with de-lamination of zippers on goretex jackets before, and the lamination on this jacket appears to be of a superior quality. That being said, I am careful when zipping and unzipping it, I make sure the tracks are aligned on either side and when I get in the house from the cold I wait a few minutes for the jacket to warm up before I unzip it (I'm not sure what temperature the lamination is tested to and I don't want to go through the hassle of making a warranty claim). The fit is nice enough to wear in the city if I needed to, even with all of its performance features it still has a stylish cut, very neat and minimalist.

I purchased this shell primarily because of the color (Tatsu). I don't like to stick out in a crowd with bright colors and am tired of black. I am ex military and like olive, green, subdued brown etc. I am 5 feet 9.5 inches tall, wear a size 33 waist 30 inseam jean (actual waist is 37, hips 39). I wear arc'teryx medium in fleece and soft-shells. Over a fleece, a size medium just barely fits me. I called Arc'Teryx before ordering and explained my size situation and was told that a size M would fit over a Cerium down jacket. Impossible! Regardless, this jacket runs small. I am going to try a large but I am guessing it may also be too small. I wear a Patagonia medium in everything without any layering problems.

If it is windy, rainy, or snowy this is my go-to outer layer. As a shell it is perfect for walking the dogs, skiing, or walking around town. Adjusting base and mid-layers I have worn the jacket in temps from -20 to 35 F and been comfortable. A few of my favorite things ... Room in the shoulders for full movement, pit zips, high pockets (work well with backpack waist belt), sleeves are the perfect length - don't ride up but not so long that they get in the way when using my hands. The it is comfortable with only a single baselayer without feeling over sized. I have worn upto a base layer, vest, and mid-layer without feeling like a stuffed sausage. For skiing the only thing missing is a powder skirt, but I didn't miss it.
I live in Ohio. Friends and I are ultrarunners, which means that we for some reason enjoy training for and racing (running) long distances such as 100 miles mostly in the woods/on trails. We are outside almost daily, year round. I decided this is the year that I'm going to buy some good gear and therefore NOT be cold in winter.A friend told me about Arcteryx, and after some research online it was clear that this is a superior brand.I read (on the Arcteryx web site) about their best recommendation for staying warm during activity: you buy one of the Arcteryx jackets, usually one of the insulated ones, which provides the warmth. You then buy a second "jacket" which is really the outer shell, and this provides the waterproof and windproof elements. So, in October ... MoreI live in Ohio. You then buy a second "jacket" which is really the outer shell, and this provides the waterproof and windproof elements. So, in October I bought jacket #1: the Arcteryx "Atom Hoody W," size small. This jacket utilizes synthetic insulation. I went to an REI to try it on and luckily they had one in my size. From the minute I picked it up, you could tell that the "buttery" - feeling fabric was superior. Perfect fit. Warm when used as a standalone jacket. First time I wore it was in 28 degrees in the middle of the night during the Indiana Trail 100 (mile endurance run) later in the month, and it kept me warm. It worked. Loved this. But now this month, to the point of my review............................ I have purchased jacket #2: the Arcteryx "Beta AR Jacket W," also size small after reading about the fit. I ordered it from an REI store as there was not one in stock (which is fine). It was shipped (free for members) to the house. I was so nervous to take it out of the packaging... right away I could feel that this fabric is no joke. As some others have said, the fabric is very... firm... it's not soft... it makes a bit of a crinkling sound... but this type of (Gore-Tex) fabric is what gives you the windproof and waterproof elements. This shell looks so well made.So the fit... I was nervous about ordering another small, since I wasn't sure if my Atom Hoody would fit comfortably underneath. But!... the fit is perfect. What I mean by this is that as some have said, a size small, for example, is not that "small" ... meaning 1) the sleeves are long, which I think is OK because you can secure the velcro around the wrist cuff and therefor you don't notice the length of the sleeves... and 2) there is plenty of room to fit base layer(s) and a jacket underneath this shell.I wore both outside... the jacket underneath followed by the shell on top... it was super windy out... and wow, I hardly noticed the wind. Game changer.I plan on wearing either one or both of these Arcteryx jackets for probably the next six months of winter here in Ohio, mostly during running/hiking but obviously you can use it for other purposes too, like not freezing in the grocery store haha.Overall I feel that this Beta AR jacket is outstanding. It's a serious investment/commitment, and I hope that I own both jackets for years.
Did the job on the outside but wore out fast on the inside. I used this jacket for one rainy season here in the NW for the simplest of tasks. When I inspected it at the end of the summer, I noticed that the inner lining had worn off where my belt loops brushed against the lining. The jacket fits well with enough room for me to have an under layer but the lining wore away just by walking. Not what I would expect from a brand known for its durable outerwear. In contacting Arcteryx support they would not cover the jacket under warranty that was less than a year old. Luckily, I purchased it from REI and they took care of me with one look at the problem. I didn't have to explain a thing.
This is a great jacket. This shell keeps me dry in the rain, even after several hours. The hood works with my helmet or can be adjusted well for use without a helmet. I used it in Iceland and Alaska as a top layer. It works as a great wind block and/or rain jacket. The hood can be adjusted to protect the face well. The face/neck lining adds comfort when wearing this jacket for long stretches.Pit zips are well placed and hand packets are comfortable. The zippers work easily for me even if wearing gloves. The jacket is sized to allow me to wear layers under it, if needed. The sleeves are long on my short arms but they are easily adjusted at the wrists or I can adjust them longer if my hands are cold. The material is somewhat crunchy, but it is worth it to stay warm ... MoreThis is a great jacket. This jacket arrived just before Hurricane Nicole - perfect timing!Things I love:It's just long enough to cover my bum (no water seeping into my waistband, drier bum when sitting)double-adjustable hood (less of it flying off with wind)cuff velcro that actually works & armpit vents (because all rain jackets need them)layers SO WELL - it's warm with just a base layer, but allows for a sweatshirt underneath as well with plenty of movement and doesn't look awkward either way.color: the yellow is almost mustard, which is a fun play on the classic "yellow raincoat" of childhood that I loved.Overall, a great addition to my outdoor gear. I'll be wearing this for years to come!
Beta LT is a series of jacket of Arc'teryx. It is made of 3L (three-layer) Goretex fabric and has undergone DWR (durable waterproof treatment), which is waterproof, breathable and wear-resistant. The detailed design of Beta LT is excellent. For example, COHAESIVE® adjustment system is adopted, and the circular adjuster is hidden in the hood, keeping a minimalist appearance, and it is easy to press the adjuster to adjust the size of the hat even when wearing gloves. The brim is designed to be stiff by pressing glue, and it has the function of a small hat, which can resist light rain. The cuffs have hook and loop design, which is convenient to adjust the cuff size. However, Beta Jacket uses N30P fabric with c-knit backing, while Beta LT uses N40P fabric with warp-knitted back, which is more tear-resistant and heavier in grams than the former.Generally speaking, Beta LT is a jacket with perfect functions and excellent details, which gives outdoor users full experience and perfect protection.
this is my 3rd one. First one i got was back in early 2000 and the jacket was the BEST!! It was Made in Japan and solid!! 2nd beta i got probably 4 years ago, love the purple color but it was getting too tight for me… blame the covid. I recalled i only paid like $300. This time i was shocked the price went all the way to $600!! The cut of the jacket is so different…. not flattening at all very boxy as others have said. I’m so glad i didn’t order medium… and the material feels so thin… will be another rain storm next week and i will try it out but this is most likely my last one cuz the price is just way too much…
