You can literally just wear the jacket with no shirt underneath and have a great time. This jacket gives shelter from the elements, but most importantly - it gets out of your way as it does that. It doesn't inhibit movement, comfort, breathability, etc. For daily use, where you're looking for something that can bring you almost anywhere and do it smoothly, this is the ONE!You should know its weaknesses, though. On multiple occasions, I've also pushed this thing a bit too far and it's shown its limitations. It is by no means bullet-proof (or fully water-proof, snow-proof, wind-proof, rock-proof, any of the proofs...). Heavy rain or wet snow for extended periods (30 min+) will thoroughly wet out the face fabric (you'll still be dry-ish, it just won't breathe at all, which can end up being quite a clammy situation). I would not recommend this as an all-winter ski shell in the PNW (or other wet, temperate climates), though it does the bumper seasons perfectly. Given that this is not the intended use of the jacket, I won't hold this against it, but the shell definitely does have its limits.Durability has been really good. I have not babied it in the slightest, and, as far as I can see, there is only one visible scuff on the face fabric. Here's my one main gripe, and that's that there is no internal pocket. Why!? Skiing with this thing would be so much better if I didn't have to contort my body every time I needed to scan my lift pass in the deep front pockets. The older Beta LTs had it, I don't know why they would have taken it away this time... It would be so simple and would solve such an inconvenient issue with the shell. But, that's kind of it. It's perfect otherwise. Get this jacket and you'll have a new best friend to take with you on (almost) all of your adventures.

Fit & Features

I've had 3 Beta AR jackets over 30 years as an outdoor professional. They have given outstanding service. I don't need the extra pockets or the tougher, heavier fabric anymore and just bought a Beta Lt. A careful inspection reveals the same great attention to detail, design and construction. I live in the SE US where rain and humidity minimize moisture transfer through permeable fabrics. Ventilation is more effective for me. Pit zips and the large, helmet compatible hood promote this as does a "mid-level" GoreTex with a ribbed inner lining. This lining disperses interior moisture best IMO. The fabric is stiff enough to stand off the skin allowing additional ventilation and avoiding "clamminess." The hood, cuff and hem closures are there too, for cold dry conditions. ... MoreI've had 3 Beta AR jackets over 30 years as an outdoor professional. They have given outstanding service. Great Initial Impression

I prefer this Jacket over the Beta LT. I am (5' 8" 170 lbs average/ athletic build) I have pretty broad chest/shoulder with some love handles. I had tried the small and medium size. The small fit me best in sleeve length and drop, however was way to constricting in the midsection (these hips do not lie) and made layering difficult. So I went with the medium and can comfortably layer with a Atom LT or Cerium. The sleeve length is a bit long but I don’t mind it. I much prefer the C-knit fabric over the Beta LT, this fabric feels less restricting, lighter, and also produces less noise (for people who care about that sort of thing). I feel like I can move with less resistance and be able to grab items without feeling "clunky". The new zipper is way better than the Beta ... MoreI prefer this Jacket over the Beta LT. Overall this Jacket takes all features from the Beta LT and improves upon them.

Great, but…pockets capture wafee

Hello! I use this as an external shell (of course) for mainly backpacking. I sweat a lot. The pockets of this jacket allow moisture in from the INSIDE-OUT. And if you keep your phone in those chest pockets, it will be soaked! Not sure if this is a defect, but it certainly happens on both of my pockets. I think this is because only the outer layer keeps rain out, while the inside of the pockets let my sweat pour in. Completely useless pockets during a sweat-inducing activity….as for the rest of the jacket, it’s done fairly well. I’ve noticed the inner lining black material has worn off in several very small bits, but in two places (not high-rub places either). I never dealt with the pocket issue because I’m reminded each time I start a long backpack trek, forget about it, and here we are.

The Do-(Almost)-It-All Hard Shell

For a jacket that’s designed to do a lot of tasks, it checks all the boxes for the optimal hard shell. I’ll be using this jacket while technical mixed climbing at 7,000m in Pakistan this summer and will report back, but in the meantime, I’ve been skiing, cragging, alpine climbing, and soggy Pacific NW hiking in it with impressive results. As an alpinist, I want the lightest hard shell with no-frills features that can live in my pack for when I need it for the unexpected squall or wear as armor as I plow uphill through a section of deep snow, but also survive the occasional scum up an iced-up chimney. I also don’t want a separate jacket for every single activity, preferring to just have one perfect jacket for most things, and I finally found it. I also don’t want a separate jacket for every single activity, preferring to just have one perfect jacket for most things, and I finally found it. At 9oz, this goes in the pack for every outing regardless of the forecast. This jacket isn’t a high-aerobic mountain-running jacket, and it isn’t an uber-burly drenched-to-the-bone jacket for stormy multi-day hiking, but it does fit the 90% use case for everything in between. It is also by far the most breathable hard shell I have ever worn, but nothing magical. Don’t expect it to perform like a soft shell. Take it to the crag, to the alpine, to the resort, around town, to the backcountry, and everything in between. This is also my go-to jacket for skiing, whether backcountry, inbounds, or side-country (the RECCO searchability gives peace of mind).I have a small frame, and I find this jacket purposefully-baggy in the chest and arms for layering over mid-layers. I appreciate the priority of range-of-movement over city style in this piece. Wearing this jacket while swinging ice tools over my head with one or two layers underneath doesn’t result in tight shoulders. The jacket hem is trim so it doesn’t scrunch-and-splay under a harness like a baggy freeride jacket would. Can’t say enough good things about this piece!

Unacceptable flaws for $500.
26 September 2023

Good! Not great! I had this jacket on my wish list for a year. I saved money every month until I was able to buy the jacket out right. Upon purchase, I was super excited, but after wearing it a few times, I noticed a few flaws. First, the cuff is very flimsy. The velcro strap is lackluster and when tightened, creates a wired flap near the inner forearm. Second, the cinch drawstring mechanism near the hood, does not hold. The moment there is pressure or tugging on the hood it loosens. The GoreTex is great, but for $500, the features should be better. I have had many jackets prior to this one and this purchase proves that more money is not always better. This was my first Arc'teryx jacket and my experience did not feel like it was $500 worth.

Beta LT is a series of jacket of Arc'teryx. It is made of 3L (three-layer) Goretex fabric and has undergone DWR (durable waterproof treatment), which is waterproof, breathable and wear-resistant. The detailed design of Beta LT is excellent. For example, COHAESIVE® adjustment system is adopted, and the circular adjuster is hidden in the hood, keeping a minimalist appearance, and it is easy to press the adjuster to adjust the size of the hat even when wearing gloves. The brim is designed to be stiff by pressing glue, and it has the function of a small hat, which can resist light rain. The cuffs have hook and loop design, which is convenient to adjust the cuff size. However, Beta Jacket uses N30P fabric with c-knit backing, while Beta LT uses N40P fabric with warp-knitted back, which is more tear-resistant and heavier in grams than the former.Generally speaking, Beta LT is a jacket with perfect functions and excellent details, which gives outdoor users full experience and perfect protection.
