Arcteryx Beta LT Jacket (Men's) Yukon / XL

The Arc'teryx Beta LT men's lightweight hiking jacket is the do everything and is very versatile for mountain environments with its waterproof, breathable and windproof Gore-Tex membrane. Designed with a purposeful simplicity, this non-insulated shell features a trim fit that eliminates bulk, moves with your body and fits comfortably over your insulation and mid layers. Its helmet compatible StormHood gives full coverage without impeding sight lines and pit zips provide rapid ventilation. This outer layer is famous for its remarkable performances across a wide range of activities: this is The Minimalist of the Beta family. Layering is the key of keeping you dry, warm and using your energy efficiently. Put into the right systems, a good sequence of layers moves moisture away from your skin, conserves or dissipates heat and provides you with weather protection. Here they are. The first layer, worn next-to-skin will provide warmth and quickly move moisture away from your skin. Then, the second layer, is the insulation and fleece, that provides warmth while also dissipating heat during periods of high output. And finally, the third layer, the shell, which is the most weather-protective layer, worn on the outside of all other layers.

A Solid Rain Jacket

I needed a rain jacket as I coach outside in the elements. I bought two other jackets that didn't work for me. The REI Rainier jacket that was fairly uncomfortable inside. I returned it and tried the Kuhl Stretch Voyager, which was super comfortable, but wetted through the first hard rain I stood in. I was tired of being frustrated so I decided to spend the money on the Arc'teryx Beta LT. So far it seems to bead the water up nicely and keep me dry. It's not as comfortable on the inside as the Kuhl was, which is a shame, but it does what it's intended to do. I wanted the black color, but couldn't find it in stock anywhere, so I went with the dark blue. The sizing was tricky for me. I bought an XL, which fits my body. I'm hoping this jacket will hold up for a long time since it's pretty expensive.

The DWR lasted for quite a while. The jacket's fit is great for my skinnier, athletic build (5'10"), with extra space to wear base layers and my Atom LT or a slimmer down jacket. Hood coverage is great and the storm hood articulates well. The build quality is great and the hood adjustability is awesome. This jacket is def worth the extra 50 more than the Beta. The pit zips and multiple hood adjustments are really good when I need to dump any heat when hiking in the kinda cold New York winters (wearing an atom underneath). Great jacket overall (however, the Beta Lightweight may be worth it over this model [for $50 extra] due to the lighter weight, new internal pocket, cleaner design, and Vislon front zipper).

I purchased this shell primarily because of the color (Tatsu). I don't like to stick out in a crowd with bright colors and am tired of black. I am ex military and like olive, green, subdued brown etc. I am 5 feet 9.5 inches tall, wear a size 33 waist 30 inseam jean (actual waist is 37, hips 39). I wear arc'teryx medium in fleece and soft-shells. Over a fleece, a size medium just barely fits me. I called Arc'Teryx before ordering and explained my size situation and was told that a size M would fit over a Cerium down jacket. Impossible! Regardless, this jacket runs small. I am going to try a large but I am guessing it may also be too small. I wear a Patagonia medium in everything without any layering problems.

Great fit and features, bad customer service
10 April 2024

I bought this jacket slightly over a year ago and the fit is amazing! The materials appear to be high quality and the craftsmanship is why I have bought so many jackets. The articulated fit and features have been the best thing about the beta LT.My issue comes with customer service because after a well-maintained jacket that’s costed me $450 has some weird issue that I can’t figure out, I’ve been left hanging. I have always pulled up the “materials and care” section on the page every time I washed this. Even bought the special Arcteryx branded tech wash and DWR. I bought it in the phenom orange color and I was surprised at the orange color bleeding through or delamination (not exactly sure what’s going on) and I was just outside of the return window with REI where ... MoreI bought this jacket slightly over a year ago and the fit is amazing! I emailed Arcteryx and after requesting more information and specific photos, I stopped receiving any feedback despite reaching out a few more times. Beware of Arcteryx customer service. I own lots of shirts and jackets from this company, and most things have been exceptional quality. I’m not sure if this is a quality issue or a one-off, but if you need support after purchase, you may be out of luck.

I hope it lives up to its claims
21 November 2023

I bought this jacket two weeks ago. I have not tested its properties yet. I bought a men’s jacket because the colours for women were the worst I have ever seen for any brand of jacket. I bought this entirely on reputation of the company’s products. It is exceptionally expensive but I am tired of jackets which claim to be waterproof and are not. I tried it on in the store and had to order the size online which was done in the store by the sales associate for me . My biggest disappointment is that the one delivered does not have an inside pocket like the one I tried on in the store. An inside pocket for jackets is a must have.

I was bait and switched by Arc’teryx
24 December 2023

My family members have been loyal Arc’teryx customers, and they convinced me it was worth the price for the impeccable customer service and no-questions-asked repairs. Well, that was before COVID. Ever since then, Arc’teryx has followed suit with every other company by shrugging off their responsibilities and customer-forward policies. When I bought the jacket I was convinced to do so thinking the company stood by their product and catered to their customers. Now I see that Arc’teryx products are no longer backed by their company making them all overpriced - especially when compared to every other premium outdoor equipment brand that still backs their products. I will never buy Arc’teryx again, and I see no reason for anyone else to either. Well there won’t be another order from Arc’teryx.

Revised version is bad. Previous one is 👍🏼🔥
9 May 2024

I had the previous version of the Beta LT jacket. Awesome jacket. Truly one of my best purchases ever. But the goretex fabric layers started to delaminate a bit (manufacturing defect) so I returned the jacket under warranty and got my money back in store credit.I got the new revised Beta LT and it’s just not the same. I had to return it. The material feels a tiny bit less durable than the previous one. When I poured some water on the sleeve, it would kinda bead off but nowhere near as good as the previous version. As mentioned by other people, you’d probably get soaked if you wore this in the rain for longer than 20 minutes. The one upside is the pit zips on this new jacket. I think those are cool and a very useful feature that the old version didn’t ... MoreI had the previous version of the Beta LT jacket. Awesome jacket. Truly one of my best purchases ever. Tight belly from AW23-24 season
11 June 2024

I am a chubby type, 1,78m for 93kg with muscular torso but some arising beer belly ;-) and i bought the Beta Lite jacket for mountain-biking in L size.I already use the Beta Ar jacket ( L size) for powder snowboarding , all conditions, and just love it :-).The Beta Lite has a storm hood ( means no collar hampering air flow when front zip is open ) and kinda a longer back protecting you when pedalling.Fine.But due to sizing update in Winter 23/24 season, the belly is now much tighter, making it impossible to wear anything more than a technical first layer plus a light fleece ( 100 g /m2 ) under the jacket ... i guess the sizing update was a bit too radical ; note to haters : shoulders are exactly fitting, and chest is fine tuned to my Swimmer's upperbody. Unacceptable flaws for $500.
26 September 2023

Good! Not great! I had this jacket on my wish list for a year. I saved money every month until I was able to buy the jacket out right. Upon purchase, I was super excited, but after wearing it a few times, I noticed a few flaws. First, the cuff is very flimsy. The velcro strap is lackluster and when tightened, creates a wired flap near the inner forearm. Second, the cinch drawstring mechanism near the hood, does not hold. The moment there is pressure or tugging on the hood it loosens. The GoreTex is great, but for $500, the features should be better. I have had many jackets prior to this one and this purchase proves that more money is not always better. This was my first Arc'teryx jacket and my experience did not feel like it was $500 worth.

Versatile and high quality
8 May 2023

Every cent you invest in this jacket is worth it, and this rapidly becomes apparent upon wearing it. Like all Arc’teryx products, the quality is there to be seen, felt and experienced. I’ve owned a few iterations of this jacket over the years and it has become progressively more streamlined, stripped down and light weight. The new fabric is a game changer; lighter, more breathable and with a vastly improved next to skin feeling. Pit zips are crucial for high output activities and they are generous enough to really cool you down when needed. Rubber zippers, seam seals and the fabric all combine to make a fortress impenetrable to even the heaviest downpour. The cut is modern and flattering and allows unrestricted movement. Rubber zippers, seam seals and the fabric all combine to make a fortress impenetrable to even the heaviest downpour. The cut is modern and flattering and allows unrestricted movement. The hood design is a triumph of design, and allows great flexibility and customization. It sheds rain, keeps your head dry and allows the water to run off without getting in your eyes or sneaking into the jacket itself. Having said that, I would love to see this jacket (or another model) available with a smaller, more refined hood. This hood would not be helmet compatible, but it would create a more streamlined look and feel and open up more uses for general hiking and urban wear. You can feel a little silly wearing this hood while watching your kids play sport. The occasional person is going to ask you when you arrived back from a South Pole expedition. Another option would be to make the hood stow-able (like my 10 year old version of the Alpha SV). The jacket could also do with a chest zip pocket for a mobile phone, as when wearing it as a shell the only option for a phone is within the lower hand pockets (where a phone tends to gets in the way). But overall this jacket is a winner, and is quite versatile in its current form.
