I’ve been advocating for longer jackets or top from Arcteryx for quite a while as I’m 5’9’’ (1.76m) 158lbs and a muscular built (36B torso with 31’’ waist with V shape body, wide shoulder) It’s my body that is quite long, not my legs (just regular length pants are ok for me). And I’ve been having issues with the length of certain tops or jackets from Arcteryx as I do not like when a jacket is above my buttocks. Well, you know when you sit down and you constantly have to bring your jacket down, so that the area just above your hips isn’t exposed to the cold. I hate being cold and this was a real pain point for me. With this new version of the Sentinel, problem is solved ! It clearly goes below my butt cheeks and I just love it ! Thank you Arcteryx, excellent improvement for this jacket. My only concern was with the thickness of the insulation. I think you could have add more as for the price tag, I should not have to add lawyers to feel adequately warm. In Qc province, we have real winter and at the top of Mt Tremblant, it’s windy. The good thing is that I tried to put my beloved Proton AR jacket and it’s looks great. I have selected the size large for the Sentinel insulated and w an older version of the Proton AR (large), it works really well. I’m specifying as the new sizing chart was a challenge. This Sentinel is quite roomy, hence the room for layering with the Proton. Next step will be to really test this baby on the slopes on my next skiing day. I also luv the snow skirt, though I donno about the buttons, testing on my first skiing day of the season will prove its longevity. Also luv the color, it’s a really nice grayish blue and it was one of the reason I selected that color. I prefer darker colors with Arcteryx products as lighter colors tend to show more the Ā« dirt Ā» of wearing it often.

It fits comfortably over my atom hoodie, while not being too bulky. The sleeves are perfect, coming to about halfway on my palms, and the torso just over my butt.Build: feels solid but pliable. This is 100% just a shell, I don’t expect any added insulation in comparison to my guide jacket, but I do expect it will be more comfortable on wet spring/summer days in just a tshirt.Overall, I am very happy with the purchase, I will update the review once it actually sees some weather.

Great fit with simple design
21 November 2023

Great jacket but I did end up sizing down as it is truly a very relaxed fit. This is an upgrade/replacement for me from an older size large Sentinel LT jacket. The older regular fit Sentinel fit a bit more snug around the shoulders and was restricting with puffy layers underneath. I was hoping the large in this more relaxed fit would solve those issues. I usually opt for a size large in Arc’teryx outerwear to allow for layers and a more relaxed fit. I was swimming in the large so I ended up returning the large for a medium and to my surprise it still fits better than the old size large I have. It’s roomy but doesn’t look so oversized that it is unflattering. The extra room in the shoulders is very appreciated and the extra length is great. As a bib wearer, I always find snow skirts a bit redundant and annoying so I’m happy to not have one on this new jacket.

Keeps me dry and toasty
18 January 2023

I absolutely love this jacket. I have it in Small and in bright pink. The shell is loose fitting without being too long in the arms or in length. I'm able to fit a 800 fill packable down puffer underneath with base layers, no problem. It keeps me 100% dry and warm on the lifts while skiing Jackson Hole or Grand Targhee, with plans to use it skiing Big Sky, which is substantially colder, and in Mammoth with just the shell for spring skiing. I am fit, 127 lbs, 5'7", slim, 32D bra size. I tried this on in store, but the pink was out of stock everywhere I looked. So I ordered it online directly from Arc'Teryx as soon as it was back in stock.

My ride or die ski shell
12 December 2022

I’ve had this shell for a few seasons since it was previously called the Sentinel AR and it’s still going strong. I love the pockets both inside and out and the fit is great for layering a baselayer, light fleece and midlayer on top for cold days. I ski with a Proton hoody all the time and it fits easily underneath. I don’t really have need of the powder skirt but it doesn’t bother me leaving it undone. The length is good for some butt coverage but not too long to start affecting movement while skiing or sitting on the chair. I like the flannel backer for some added comfort/ teensy bit of warmth but I run hot usually so it’s not overkill. I have used this jacket in the backcountry before but don’t always bring it because of its reduced breathability with the flannel ...Ā MoreI’ve had this shell for a few seasons since it was previously called the Sentinel AR and it’s still going strong. Nice winter jacket
3 January 2023

I already had some and Arcteryx jacket the Andessa but I wanted something insulated for skiing but less warm so that's why I bought the Sentinel Insulated jacket. This jacket is good for the Gore Tex and the Coreloft insulation. I'm 5'6" and this jacket run a little bit long (size large). It's Ok for the look and the exterior of this jacket but the problem is inside because the snow skirt is not at the right place. Even if the jacket is long I think it would be better to have the snow skirt on the hips like habitually and not under the buttocks because that's not comfortable. I'm thinking about asking a seamstress to try to modified it but that's desapointing for the price payed.

Not for shorties
1 November 2023

I really want to love this jacket. It’s clearly good quality and I love the colour options. Which is rare for women’s outdoor gear. I want to be an arcteryx girlie this winter, but sadly it is just not the fit for me. I am 5’2, petit and curvy and it was boxy in the shoulders and tight on the booty. It’s very frustrating that this body type is not represented in the outdoors and majority of gear for my body type is extremely hard to find. I hope one day arc makes a line of clothing that can help out us curvy shorties. We like to ski too. We like to the outdoors too!

Odd Fitting
27 April 2022

I was really pumped about this jacket when I ordered it, but bummed when it arrived. Right out of the bag I was disappointed at the colour. I ordered the Ephemera because it was the only colour of the three that made sense to use in the backcountry and forested areas to still be seen for safety. The picture of it on the website is a vibrant orange-red, but this jacket is a faded light orange colour. I thought I’d still give it a chance if the fit was good, but that was a letdown too. I’m a very average build (5’4ā€, 128-130lbs), I ordered a small (I am a Sm or XSm in shirts and jackets) and this fit like a men’s jacket — super roomy through the shoulders and chest, tight around the hips. Whenever I run into this it frustrates me, because women-specific clothing should be made for the average woman instead of like mens clothing that is built for their wide shoulders and narrow hips. The tight hip fit doesn’t seem necessary because there is the snow skirt underneath to prevent snow coming up into the jacket. As MANY reviews have mentioned the sleeves are too long as well. They can be tightened with straps which helps, but they are still much too long. I completely understand that the roominess through the upper body can be there to support layering, but the tight fit around the hips it makes it even tighter when wearing snowpants. I put a puffy vest on underneath and it filled the upper part better, but it’s still much too floppy and baggy around my shoulders and the chest puffs out like a shelf. For an $800 jacket this needs to work for me, so sadly I will be returning it. Hopefully there are some adjustments for next year’s model — and a wider variety of bright colours, please?

Put it to the ultimate test!

At first I was hesitant to pay this much for a shell even though I love Arcteryx products! I have always gone skiing with mediocre gear and been cold, wet and uncomfortable at some point in the day. If you are hesitant about this jacket, don’t be! I went to Schweitzer in hopes of a great day on the mountain. Well it was a blizzard with avalanche risk and many runs shut down. 50mph winds at the top, icy snow shooting at me, nearly zero visibility! Everyone in my group was soaked and cold. I was the only one dry and warm! This jacket does it’s job! Even with crazy winds and icy snow shooting toward me I didn’t feel it where I was protected with my gear. So glad I made this purchase! Thank you for making great gear Arcteryx. If you want to be dry, warm and comfortable even in a cruddy blizzard buy this jacket and other products mentioned!
