The UNO R4 was created with maximum compatibility in mind and keeps the same physical factor, compatibility with shields, and 5V operating voltage as its predecessor. The Renesas RA4M1 32-bit Cortex-M4 CPU, which powers the UNO R4, significantly increases processing speed, memory capacity, and functionality. The Arduino UNO R4 WiFi combines the processing power and exciting new peripherals of the RA4M1 microcontroller from Renesas with the wireless connectivity power of the ESP32-S3 from Espressif. On top of this, the UNO R4 WiFi offers an on-board 12x8 LED matrix, Qwiic connector, VRTC, and OFF pin, covering all potential needs makers will have for their next project. Renesas' RA4M1 (Arm Cortex -M4) running at 48 MHz powers the Arduino UNO R4, which outperforms its predecessor by three times. To support more sophisticated projects, SRAM has also been increased from 2kB to 32kB and flash memory from 32kB to 256kB. I bought a R4 WiFi board and a R4 Minima as well ; I appreciate the high quality of theses boards. The delay to be delivered was shorter than I was thinking so I was obliged to postpone the delivery ; it was very easy to do so. The shipping is very serious and your parcel is delivered with your signature, not only put in your letterbox.I have tried the boards and all the exemples given on Arduino's site were running. These boards are very important to replace the Uno R3 in a project already done. I wanted to experiment with the added CPU power with various remote monitoring and data logging projects, but it simply won't work since it loses a couple of seconds every twenty minutes or so.Setting time from an NTP server using the ezTime library, and displaying on it using LiquidCrystal_I2C was no problem, but it pointed out the massive errors when I queried again every few minutes.)I mean, the examples with the LED matrix are impressively cute, but just about every one of my projects needs better on-board time-keeping.

Love it however, for some reason my Arduino does not like 12-24V at all (Confirmed with a multimeter). I was powering it with a variable power supply at 1-1.5A. It draws around 50mA and it drops to zero almost right away. The on board LED dims significantly.I tried an R3 UNO with no problems with it's max voltage rating so I'm thinking it's the board I received. At 12V and lower, it works perfect. I was planning on using it in a DIN rail mount application with 24V so it's a little disappointing but I still enjoy all the other features.

Great performance improvement in comparison with the UNO r3 + lot of memory + lot of interfaces + WiFi + the LED matrix is so nice.I had not much time to play with it, but after much enthusiasm I was a bit disapponted by a couple of things.First impact not exciting: uploading the first sketch failed due to device not found on COM3 (though everything was set properly and the IDE up to date).Another small frustration: I had big expectation on the CAN capability of the board, but I was a bit stuck discovering that you need an external CAN transceiver.So: UNO r3 will always be in my hearth, need some more time to get familiar with UNO r4.

I would just love to tell you how much fun the UNO R4 is as a tinkerer, about how useful the LED matrix is and how amusing it is to animate a winking smiley face on it...But I can't.I'd be overjoyed to recommend the combination of affordability with connectivity that doesnt sacrifice speed or function...But I can't.I would jump at the opportunity to praise both the product and the manufacturer if I could, but as I've sent email after email asking for assistance in finding my order that says it was delivered 3 weeks before it was ordered, and have gotten nothing in response, I can do none of these things.Then I get an email asking me how my last order experience was.Bad, Arduino. Really fuckin' bad. I want to write a good review of the R4, but... Awesome new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities. Really expands the usefulness of the base board. My board came much faster than I thought it would. Thanks for the great service!LED Display is a little wonky. The docs give row addresses as arbitrary numbers that don't align with the actual display rows nomenclature and the whole thing is Charlie-plexed, so you really need to keep your row and column pins sorted and properly polarized. Very complicated and unlike Arduino's normal ease-of-use aesthetic.Maybe the programming library will make the LED Matrix easier to use. Like, "Serial.Print -matrix -scroll -loop 'Hello World!' I am an electronics teacher and have enjoyed the Arduino community very much over the years. So, I cannot miss the opportunity to explore this new UNO R4 version of the still very useful UNO R3.As a teacher, I find the new built-in LED array fantastic and would have appreciated if all the digital outputs also had one LED each.But you have done really a great work with this new R4 Wi-Fi version.My sincere compliments

This version of the UNO has everything I could ask for and had added to the previous version, or used a different microcontroller. I was all set to use the onboard LED display, and then, I tried to add a shield for all my sensor and relay connections. Shield made viewing the display impossible. Bummer. Do you have plans to produce an UNO R4 with stacking headers so that the shield board can be placed under the UNO R4? Even with this "flaw", this board is a bargain. Positive Waves on the release.
