Currently the Arlo Ultra 2 cameras need to be connected to a Smarthub to work. But this also has an added benefit because the Smarthub allows you to store footage locally without an Arlo Subscription plan. Everybody likes free stuff.On the last note, anytime I’ve been asked which wireless system to go with, I always suggest Arlo. So if anyone complains that they do not like their products for whichever reason, or they are not working properly, or the batteries don’t last long, it’s because they’re not aware that many of these issues are user error. Battery life and features are all adjustable through the app.These cameras have so much technology packed into one tiny unit that when used properly, crushes the competition easily. When you’re using these cameras at their fullest capacity, the value you get is well worth the price.

I picked this model of camera as it would work on my wifi and it came highly recommended from all of the extensive research that I did. After having them working for one year I have a list of problems that they have.1) The quick change battery only works for the first few Changes and is very difficult unless you remove the entire camera from its mount. These Arlo cameras have been really good for our New Home. I haven’t had any issues. Detection has been on point. It detects if a person,animal or vehicle have passed by. Very convenient especially when my husband and I both work and are away from home for a couple of hours. The app is very easy to use. User friendly. You can arm and disarm the cameras from anywhere through your mobile phone. Another awesome thing about the Arlo is that, it has a light that will turn on if something is detected. Very awesome tool. Comes in handy at night. The battery to me lasts a very long time. I would say about 3-4 weeks, estimate. It comes with an extra battery, so no cameras will be without one if one needs to charge. Thought these were going to be a nice upgrade/addition to my pro 2 cameras. The ability to review clips via cloud, remotely, and thumbnail shots was great until the 90-trial ended, then you have to pay to have those features; bs. Ended up having to upgrade base station ($60 on sale) so I could record to a flash drive locally. Can’t view those clips remotely without port forwarding which I can’t get to work. Can only view when on home WiFi network, more bs. Would have sought out more pro 2 that offer all these features at no cost had I know. Additionally these do not perform as well as pro 2 in cold and battery wears out faster too. Highly disappointed with this purchase.
I bought a set of these last summer, Aug 2023.Within a month I noticed the battery was draining a lot, and I had to recharge the cameras.Please note, I have had lorex cameras in the past and never had any issues. Charging frequency with lorex was as advertised around 9 ish months.I contacted Arlo, and to THIS date May 2024, they refuse to address my concern.My case was "escalated" a couple times and I thought things were going to be addressed. Just to get a message saying they need to make sure that these cameras do indeed have an issue with the battery. It randomly disconnected (this has never happened before) and we have done everything humanly possible to reconnect - to no avail.Our main modem supports 2.4g and we also have a guest network that does as well. The doorbell suddenly can no longer connect to any of our modems (we haven’t changed any settings since purchase) and we had tried every step the agents told us to do (delete/redownload app, reboot modems, factory reset doorbell) multiple times each. The battery life lasts for 1-2 months depending on use (only using it at night can last up to 3-4 months), the ability to use different operating modes is excellent, and it activates only by motion. I had a fully black doorbell. They replaced it with a white one. Ugg. Installed, same issue. Night Vision still does not work. There's no camera reflection, no windows and at worst, a few tiny lights are visible in the image from house across the street. I'm now back to 3-4 email exchanges to "Update my Case".Customer Support: They send regular emails where they want me to "Update your case" and they sometimes ask for screenshots, videos etc. I provide all the requested info within 2 days. The first email is from person A and says if there's no reply in 7 days, they'll close the case. Even tho I reply within 2 days, I then get another email which suggests I haven't replied yet, from person B saying if there's no reply in 5 days, they'll close the case. Then, person C warns me it will close in 4 days, etc. Each time they email me, I reply. I now know the names of about 12 people in their support group, and none of them seems to talk to each other or refer to the notes in my case. I've had to repeat so much info.Even though I've provided everything they've asked for, they're now asking for a longer list of items such as my router model, network topology, cell phone model (!) and once again, screenshots and details previously provided. The doorbell camera works fine during the day. This is not a WiFi/Router/Network Topology issue. I'm getting the runaround and I totally regret paying for a yearly subscription. Feel like I'm locked in.Even if they sent me a free product and subscription in the future, I wouldn't use products from Arlo.
I have never been this disappointed with an electronic item I bought. This is not just a review specific about Arlo 4 cameras but the fundamental problem with Arlo system in general. Arlo camera with hubs won’t work at all if you have 2.4 ghz wifi (who doesnot have right) issue is Arlo hubs use that spectrum to communicate apparently and can’t manage the conflict. This makes the hubs useless and with out monthly paid plans your cameras becomes worthless and won’t able able to recorded anything just the live feed. Now even if you put these cameras on the wifi they are slow response and they every to start showing the vdos including for the doorbell cameras. These production are build to work with paid monthly plans and not with hubs.

By the time I received the notification to help the police, he was gone. And the recording prematurely stop recording his motion so we couldn’t even tell where he went. Spent extra money on the solar panels and cables just to keep the cameras on. What a pain. I even bought the wired doorbell to compliment this purchase… same problems minus the charging issues. In addition, one of the cameras has a buzzing/static noise issue when on/recording. All my cameras are under eves and patio and don’t get dirty or wet when raining. No direct sunlight, prime location and good WiFi connection. Why the spotty connecting. System/app is too buggy and not reliable. Do yourself a favor and get a wired/local system.
