Art Pro Audio MX624 Six Channel Stereo Mixer

The ART MX624 Six Channel Stereo Mixer with Two Zone Outputs is a versatile rack mount mixer that combines six independent input channels and routes them to two stereo zone outputs. The first channel can be used to control, via a front-panel switch, a ducking feature for all other channels making it an ideal solution for paging systems. All six channels can accept unbalanced stereo line-level signals. 48v phantom power can be independently assigned for each mic channel. Each channel has independent level controls and can be independently routed to either zone output, both or neither. Separate level, bass and treble controls adjust the sound of each zone output. Two bus inputs allow patching of multiple units when more input channels are needed. The ART MX624 may be used on stage, in the studio, or for permanent install applications including conference rooms, corporate boardrooms, churches, restaurants, small clubs, health clubs and more. A built-in power supply and single high 19-inch rack mount format allows for easy installation and reliable long-term operation. Features Six stereo input channels with individual level controls Balanced mono microphone XLRs available on the first three channels Selectable padding on mic inputs Full +48V low-noise phantom power independently switchable for each mic input First channel provides switchable ducking of other channels with selectable parameters Front panel 1/8-inch stereo (TRS) mini-phone plug for portable music player input Two sets of left and right 1/4-inch TS main output jacks with master level, bass and treble controls Two bus input 1/4-inch TRS jacks allow units to be chained to provide extra inputs Rugged 1U rack-mount steel chassis with built-in power supply

Ordered this unit for an install. Works great. I love the XLR connector instead of euro block. IEC power is also a plus over DC for me. Knobs and buttons feel solid and the sound is great.

It was difficult to find a component with all the features of the MX624, so I ordered this unit to install in a very simple bowling alley sound system. It had the balanced mic ducking I needed and enough unbalanced high impedance inputs for the owners existing devices. Only one zone was needed and the simple operation was a easy learning curve for the employees to operate. Unfortunately, three weeks after the install the unit exhibited intermittent noise and gain issues on the right channel of input 3. This problem was easily repeatable with the unit out of the equipment rack, by flexing the chassis.I requested an RMA from the from the factory and returned it for repairs. This problem was easily repeatable with the unit out of the equipment rack, by flexing the chassis.I requested an RMA from the from the factory and returned it for repairs. The unit was promptly returned (about a 1 week turn around) and was re-installed after a brief bench test. The service center reported that a control was replaced so I didnt give it a second thought. This happens -- occasionally.Less than 10 days later I got another call from my customer who reported that they could not get one of their devices to turn off the signal when the control was at zero. I again removed the mixer and bench tested it. Sure enough, The unit was passing a low and distorted signal on right channel of input 2 when the chassis was flexed or you pressed on the top of the case -- basically the same problem on another channel.I again got an RMA, packed it up and returned it under the warranty. This time the technician reported the unit had intermittent issues with the PCB traces and they returned a new unit in its place. The serial number was lower than the one sent in, so I had to assume it was from an older batch and had high hopes it would be fine. However, it was not!Within a week my customer called and reported that this NEW replacement mixer was also producing random noise and intermittent operation. Once again, I removed the unit and ran a bench test. The reported symptom was confirmed on the bench, however once the chassis was flexed it disappeared. My experience with intermittent problems led me to the conclusion that this model must be plagued with intermittent trace problems due to poor assembly techniques -- usually due to too cold wave soldering. At this point I went back to the drawing board and searched for a comparable mixer from a different manufacture. There was no sense in sending it in for service again since I had lost so much time on this project. At this point and the seller wouldnt take it as a return, because too much time had lapsed since it was purchased. I found a good replacement and installed it. There have been no problems since this mixer was retired.I have used many ART products in the past 35 years with out any issues. I firmly believe this particular model is designed well, but poorly constructed, so avoid the hassles and look for anything other than this model from ART.
