The ART S8-3Way 8-channel 3-way Mic Splitter - Eight channel three way microphone splitter is ideal for live sound, recording and broadcast applications where microphone and XLR balanced line level input signals have to go to multiple mix locations. Each channel provides one XLR input, one XLR direct output with two additional transformer isolated XLR outputs for a total of 3 balanced outputs from each single microphone input signal. Typical uses would include sending 8 direct signals through the S8-3WAY to a main Front-of-house mixer, with additional feeds going to a monitor mix station while transformer balanced isolated feeds are sent to remote recording desk or used for a broadcast feed. The ART S8-3WAY features the same high-quality musical sounding transformers used in the popular ART S8, and is housed in a standard 1U space rack-mountable steel chassis designed for years of reliable operation. The ART S8-3WAY Main Features Include: High quality passive interface. Eight high performance transformers. One direct and two transformer isolated output per channel. Balanced XLR input and 3 balanced XLR per channel. Extremely wide frequency response. Extremely low voltage insertion loss. Reversible rack ears for added system flexibility. Live Sound, Permanent/Fixed install, Studio applications.

I needed three of these for a show involving over 20 mics that had to be split to FOH and recording. The 3-way split was more than I needed, but I elected to future proof the system with it anyway. They performed great!

This is my second purchase of this unit. It is well built, sturdy and I have experienced no difficulties in two years of constant use. It's a bit more expensive than two way splitters, but I appreciate and occasionally need the third line out for recording or splitting a signal to two different sources while also running the third line to the sound man. That flexibility is worth the extra expense for me. I would rate it atop of the line product and recommend it to anyone looking for a signal splitter. The only improvement would be to make the input a line/ MIC jack instead of the standard XLR inputs that are currently built in.

I'm using these (I bought 2) to split our live snake out to my older 32 chnl. Soundtracs Solo Logic console. 16 channels now go out to the PA, while 16 channels go out to our ProTools rig. Now I can dedicate 16 mic pres and EQ and levels to tape and the same to live sound. As the S8-3 Way still has another iso out I plan on sending this out to another small board for independent monitor mixes. These thing are invaluable! The sounds seems very transparent, I have not notice any difference in running through them as opposed to straight into the board. As the only other devices that do this are in the $1K+ range, these are awesome for the money! Connections are very solid and entire unit is quality.
Recommendation, It should have 1/4 inch line inputs also which is not there, but beside that, it does what its supposed to do. So no complaints.
This product does exactly what we bought it for. We needed something for our in-ear rig that we use live that is capable of splitting 4 vocal lines, 2 guitar lines, and a backing track line. We needed to run each of those channels to both our in-ear mixer and the front of the house. Using the ART S8-3WAY splitter, we were able to accomplish this. Convenient rack-mount too. Really happy with this purchase!
Sound:I bought 4 of these units which provide me 32 channels of transformer-isolated "splits" for my mobile multi-track recording rig. The improvement in my recordings is incredible- the sound quality of these inexpensive splitters is quite good, but the greatest benefit is NOT having to use the direct outs of the FOH console (which are POST-fader, and pass ALL of the FOH GUYS MIX AND INSERTS).I'm very pleased with this product!Features:I was originally considering the "2-way" version of this ART product. But for a few bucks more, I chose to buy these splitters which have TWO transformer-isolated splits per channel. As my equipment grows, I plan to use the second set of splits tot feed a redundant recording rig. As my equipment grows, I plan to use the second set of splits tot feed a redundant recording rig. And in the meantime I have already used them to feed the monitor system for a couple of larger shows.Ease of Use:Gave this category a "9" for one little reason, and that is simply due to the fact that the inputs and direct-outs are both located on the front of the unit. Not a HUGE problem, but it does make for a "cluttered workspace" when I patch my split rack into the stage box, and the FOH guy has to patch his mic cables into my rack. The "fix" I'm putting together- a 32 channel stage box on a short snake, so the FOH guy has a "clean" panel tot work with...Quality:Bought 4 units (totaling 32 channels) and four 8-channel xlr snakes, installed them in my rack, and have not had any problems whatsoever. Clean, clear splits feed my recording rig, and I'm a happy camper!Value:I am very happy, and would certainly buy these again if I was starting over. Perhaps one day, when I'm running high-end "boutique" pre-amps on every channel, I might find a flaw in these... but I can't hear anything"cheap" about them now!Manufacturer Support:Haven't needed it...Overall:My only comment that is even remotely close to being anything less than "a perfect 10" is pertaining to the layout- having the front panel cluttered with the direct-outs- but I knew this going in and chose to deal with it. After all, if that were a "must have", I'd have bought their "2-way splitter" as I was originally planning.I went with these for the ADDED BENEFIT of having TWO transformer-isolated splits per channel, PACKED INTO A SINGLE RACK SPACE! If "clutter" around your input jacks is a concern, buy the 2-way with both of the outputs on the rear, or do what I'm doing and add a breakout panel in a stage box.
We needed a way to split our inputs into our PA head so that we can direct those signals also to our multi-track recording setup. This allows us to record all the original sources and not worry about the PA mix.
I have one of these set up in my IEM rig and it works great. I run one of the isolated outs into a rack mount mixer IEM and the other into an 8 channel interface to record. Gigs are easy because I just hand FOH an 8 channel snake that's labeled with our outputs and we take care of the rest. Sound quality is really good. Only complaint I have is you have to increase the gain on all channels that are split to compensate. This could potentially be a problem when trying to split a weaker signal (weak vocalist, etc) but hasn't been a problem for me.
Overall:Already owning and loving the ART P16 xlr patchbay, Digital MPA, and Headamp 6, it came time to share the signal so I turned to S8. It wasn't a difficult choice. The isolated and direct outs pass singles very cleanly with no noticable change in quality, possibly a db or 2 of volume reduction. Overall well built and dependable!I feel I need to share this context for the application tho for others sake. I picked up 2 to use in place of my patchbay and provide extra throughput. They worked as expected for live shows but when I went to record a band direct to my rig the drum overheads weren't giving me signal and after 30 minutes of trying things I realized it's because on the 3way the direct out and input are on the same side.I was using the 16 isolated ... MoreOverall:Already owning and loving the ART P16 xlr patchbay, Digital MPA, and Headamp 6, it came time to share the signal so I turned to S8. I bought the 3 way because getting the 2 way with both outputs on one side would mean either I put a strain on the snake cables making them do a U turn inside the back of the rack or I put my patchbay on top of these 2 units and buy 16 short xlr cables to patch isolated outputs out of the rig and use the direct outputs for my rig inputs making the 2 way more expensive and complex to implement than the 3 way. You cant always have your cake and eat it too I suppose. Hopefully this helps someone else decide on which unit will fulfill their needs! I have returned the 3way units to exchange 2way because I am a firm believe in ART products and will continue to buy them as my business grows!
