I have been buying ASCICS shoes for years now, 9.5 extra wide. They have always fit like a glove, and have been the most comfortable shoes I have ever tried. I tried recently to buy a new model the patriot 13 wide. I could barely get my foot in. I returned them for a Gel Contend-7 9.4 4E. Same problem. I returned them and tried half a size larger10.0 4E. Still too tight around the toes. I found that if you remove the foam insoles that you can get it to fit, but then the bottom of the foot doesn't feel comfortable. I will now have to look for a new brand of shoes that fit. I guess ASICS doesnt want return customers anymore...

I have been buying the Contend series of shoes over the past few years and have been only wearing Asics for the past 20 years when running, however the there was a design change in the padding around the ankle that is uncomfortable. Confirmed in the attached photos.Previously, I had the Contend 5 and the padding is minimal directing behind the back of the heel and then there is a thin top layer of padding around the ankle to lock in the heel to the shoe. All Asics up from 20 years ago to the Contend 5 felt great and never had an issue.I recently bought the Contend 7 from your website and did not like the shoe at all. If this change is not rectified, I will have to start looking for a different shoe design or a different shoe brand.I am looking now to purchase the old sytle Contend 5 while I can still find them online.

I usually wear 9 men shoe size but I read the reviews before I ordered the shoe and the majority recommended a one size over your normal wear; so I did order 91/2 instead of my normal 9… Surprisingly; even 91/2 size wasn’t big enough for me and the Wide Width they claim is NOT there !!!!!! The ONLY positive thing about this shoe is the comfort but sizing is all out of wack !!!! They most definitely dropped the ball on this particular shoe. if you are still interested in this shoe; I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU ORDER A WHOLE SIZE OVER YOUR NORMAL SIZE; that’s if you wear size 9 men ; I recommend you order size 10….Still at this PRICE; the shoe is well worth it but be careful with the size…Best of Luck !!!

Been while since my last pair of Gel-Contends (I think the old pair were GC-4's). Immediately noticed new shoes felt much tighter across the upper lace area than old shoes. I admittedly have a very, very high instep, combined with a wide (4E) foot, which very few shoes fit comfortably. GC-4's were so comfortable, I purchased 2 pairs and rotated them until they lost their support. Hopefully new GC-7's will grow on me as I wear them in and become more comfortable.
I own previous generations of the Contend line and they are awesome shoes. The Contend 8 quality is very poor. The mesh is not flexible and the shoe is very stiff. The cushioning is not as good. Also the width and length runs small. It's like they cut a bunch of corners to reduce cost. I wish I could return this shoe but it's already worn out after wearing it a few times.
I have bought Asics GEL Contend shoes for many years. I think they are great shoes at a reasonable price. I have always worn a size 9. I ordered a size 9 of the GEL Contend 8 online and they are too small. I wore them for a week or so and my feet hurt so bad from wearing them. Other reviews say similar things...these apparently run a half size small. I don't know why a shoe company would change their sizing for no reason. Returning these and will avoid buying Asics in the future since I don't know what size I will be getting. If you're going to buy the GEL Contend 8, I would recommend buying a half size larger than you normally wear.
A stable road shoe with cushioning a bit firmer/less responsive than I expected. It feels like landing on a stale marshmallow that doesn't quite spring back enough. Toe box a little tight - I find I have to adjust laces mid run to loosen up in the front, but that's probably just my feet. The rubber is nice and grippy and the foot landing is quiet. I don't envisage doing an ultra in these, but as a daily 8k trainer, it seems to be holding up.
Good value for the price point for a solid basic running shoe. More comfortable than expected, and gave me a very good impression of Asics. (My preferred brand is Saucony. Recovering New Balance customer, never again.)Good cushioning, good arch support, stable. Really good fit for my slightly wider than average feet. Toes don't feel squished.Minus 1 star only because this doesn't compare to my Saucony Ride's. But for the price, super solid.
My old ASICS are about 10 yrs old. With some superglue and new insoles they’ve been warriors all these yrs. My second pair of ASICS really, my first pair are my yard work shoes. Pretty much only wear these at the gym for workouts so they’ve never seen the pavement. However with age some sole sections are sort of glazed over and they are a little slippery on the hardwood floors, so time to replace. So I turned back to ASICS. Overall I’ve found they offer a somewhat wide toe box area. My foot is normally a D width but even in ASICS I go for the extra wide to be sure my toes have the space they need due to arthritic big toes. Got 4E and they are not excessively wide in my heel or mid foot, while my toes do not feel cramped like too many normal shoes that never fit me ... MoreMy old ASICS are about 10 yrs old. Got 4E and they are not excessively wide in my heel or mid foot, while my toes do not feel cramped like too many normal shoes that never fit me well. These look a bit narrow in the toe area but they feel ok. Reasonable cushioning and comfortable fit for my cardio workouts. I don’t run due to toes problems but I do a lot of indoor power walking, step, cardio kickboxing and similar. These shoes seem decent and should last me quite some time. I generally workout about 1 hr per day normally 5-6 days per wk, so not a heavy user. For my needs these are decent. At the half off pricing, it was a great deal.
quality went down hill. you went with smaller material to maximize profits and now your shoes don’t fit true. uncomfortable, cheap, no support. bought 4 pairs and none of them were quality. sent one back and will not wear the other 3 pairs after a couple of weeks of use. I would’ve sent back all four but for the fact that I was trying to break them in to make them more comfortable. back when you made good shoes I would have to break them in for a couple weeks. i’m now wearing a two-year-old pair of brooks beast that are more comfortable and have more support after wearing them for at least 500 miles.
