The GEL-CONTEND 8 running shoe offers good cushioning, support and durability. A jacquard mesh upper stretches with the natural movement of the foot and creates a comfortable fit. Meanwhile, synthetic stitching on the overlays helps create a more solid foot. The midsole features GEL technology and AMPLIFOAM cushioning. These technologies help increase durability while creating a softer feel underfoot.

I received my first pair of Gel-Contend Asics as a gift and was surprised at how well they fit. Since I have wider feet, most shoes squeeze me toes, but these give me plenty of room while also providing great support!Since I loved that first pair so much, I found the exact same ones online (different color) and bought another pair. I love the balance of cushiony softness of the insoles and the firm-feeling tread. I'm on my feet a lot at my job and do a ton of walking, and even though these are meant as running shoes they keep up better than any other shoe I've tried.I wore my first pair as my daiy shoes for two years and decided to get a new pair because the outsides were starting to look a bit grungy and my toes were beginning to wear through the tops. Usually I have to change out shoes because the treads wear out or the sides blow out all within a year, but the treads and sides are still in great condition, it's just the toes that are getting worn out. Again, I realise these are meant to be running shoes and not meant to be scuffed in warehouse settings, so they'd probably last even longer if they were used as intended. To sum it up, I've found the brand for me and I look forward to trying other of their wide lines in the future.

I've owned three pairs of these sneakers, which I've used for running/jogging, walking, the gym, and everyday wear around town. Although less cushioned than higher priced shoes, I actually prefer the lower stack height and firmer ride as I have a weak ankle that sometimes starts to roll a bit and get achy with shoes that have softer mid-soles, higher stack height (esp. in the heel), and/or lack stability. For me these shoes have been really stable, comfortable, and versatile. I've worn these shoes for a variety of runs (easy runs, strides, long runs, and some speed work) and walks (up to 9 miles) on different surfaces (trails, treadmill, but mainly pavement) and they've worked fine. I also find them to be stable enough to do heavy squats and lunges in at the gym. ... They're really breathable and fairly lightweight.I just wish they had more durable mesh in the upper and slighter harder, more durable rubber in the outsole. These were two areas that experienced premature wear on the first pair of these that I owned. These shoes seem fairly "true to size" and standard in their sizing. I have a men's "size 10.9, width C" (slightly narrow) foot and can wear these in either a 10.5 or 11 (Medium, Standard, "D" width) but the size 11 gives my toes plenty of extra room so that's what I wear currently.

I walk 15-20 miles a week, and at times walk 8 to 10 miles up and down hilly asphalt roads in one stretch. I have high arches in addition to a large protruding bunion on one foot, and tingling/ discomfort of toes on the other foot when shoes are too narrow. Before bunion developed, I wore a 9.5 regular width. After spending three days and countless hours trying on running shoes in the store, I finally figured out that the best way to tackle this challenge is to bring my arch inserts with me when trying them on at the store. I found that a women's size 10-wide gave me plenty of width to accommodate bunion and avoid toe pinching, and sufficient space for an arch support insert without having to remove the original foam insert that is secured to the inside of the shoe. ... Anyone with high arches will need to add a separate insert, as the shoe has minimal arch support. It would likely be perfect without an added insert for women with flat feet though. There is just the right amount of cushion so that my feet aren't tired after a 10-mile walk. Happy feet; happy life!

Very good quality shoe for the money its a great value for someone looking for a serious running shoe and cant afford anything better. The greatest thing abot it is I beleive this shoe is going to be the best your going to get for this money compared to everything else at the same price. This is a good training and conditioning shoe that is light enough to race in if you had to but of course there is better more expensive options out there for a race shoe. I rate this shoe 5 stars especially for the value you get out of this one. What I like most about it is the classic look of the shoe that is not over the top crazy looking like a lot of other shoes out there are.
I bought these shoes to replace my old pair of ASICS that I had worn out from daily use. These shoes are so great that I keep coming back for another pair when I need new shoes. I like that they run a little bit wide naturally, because the "wide" shoes are usually a little too roomy for my awkward shaped feet. These shoes are comfy and fit pretty well. I walk my dog multiple times a day in all types of weather and my last pair of ASICS held up well for over a year. I like the purple in these; it matches my dog's harness and leash! I almost want to take off a star because of one small thing - for some reason, they are squeaky? Sometimes at night it sounds like it echoes. Other than that, I love them.
I've been wearing the same beat up pair of Asics for years and finally decided to get a new pair. I wanted something that felt just like my old ones, and this is as close as I'm going to get. I think the toe box might be just a tad wider in the new ones, because I find myself wiggling my toes a lot which I never did before... But the difference isn't big enough to make the shoes uncomfortable. I have always preferred Asics because they are a little on the narrow side and provide a snug fit around my skinny feet. Please don't ever change this! Folks with wide feet have so many options made just for them - it's hard to find good fitting shoes for narrow feet.
Ive worn Asics for probably 3 decades, Gels for maybe 2 decades (have they been around that long?), and Contends since version 3 (I think). They usually fit my feet just right. For some reason, with the Contend 8, I HAD TO go up a half size to make them fit like previous versions - the 1/2" material that touches the sole and wraps around the toe box rubbed my toes just below the the of my toenails... maybe other versions it was a little taller to wrap up over my nails a bit?For me, these running shoes see more "running of errands" than "running miles", but I do already have several miles worth of errands, neighborhood walks, and work hours on them in a month's time. Because I work on my feet and move quickly, short distances all day, I wish there was mote of a Contend -7 arch support or more, and a bit more resiliant or supportive cushion to ths sole - not more "squish", just help me feel I'm not on the floor. For this reason, I couldnt imagine these having a long life as a running shoe. The company exchanged the first pair; the dark blue top layer of mesh fabric had 1in fatique tears all over, with only 4 days of running errands.
I am a sneaker collector and bought a pair of Asics and it was shipped in a shipping bag instead of an outer box so the custom shoe box came destroyed. When I contacted Asics they had 3 or more different people emailing me the same message on the same thread despite me already sending them the story along with pictures but more associates just kept emailing me like it was the first response again. I asked about returning and if they would cover return shipping since it is a damaged product but they just sent me some generic information and avoided the question. It was super frustrating and I won't be buying from Asics again which is too bad because I been using Asics sneakesr for over 30 years. It was super frustrating and I won't be buying from Asics again which is too bad because I been using Asics sneakesr for over 30 years. The organization has terrible customer service and the shoes themselves are not what they used to be. The tongue is super thin with minimal padding and it feels like there is minimal stability when wearing the shoe like I'm only wearing a sole. I know it sounds odd to be upset about a destroyed box but I could get that type of shipping from Amazon for half the price and for other sneaker collectors out there they will understand the box is a part of the overall product like the outer jacket that a vinyl music record comes in. It's just cheap, sloppy shipping practices to save money. I tried to work with them but it went nowhere so I'm leaving this review as an alternative.
I've only had these for 2 months, and there are tears on both shoes in multiple places. I wear these shoes all day, every day and ONLY inside my house to do daily housework, etc. I don't do anything crazy in them. I don't do running or aerobics in them. I walk around my house in them. For the price, these shoes should NOT be falling apart after 2 months!!! I always buy ASICS and for some reason they changed something as my last pair did not fall apart and lasted well over a year. Very disappointed and will not be buying these again.
Perfect! I usually only buy shoes in stores, because I'm worried that there will be some problem with them, they will be too small or too big, they will squeeze or break my heels and fingers if I don't try them on before buying. However, I found either no Asics shoes at all or only a very small selection in the surrounding shops. Unfortunately, I didn't like what there were either. Either they were too colourful, or the soles extended too far back at the heel, etc... Finally, I found three pairs, which I really liked on the Asics web shop, so I ordered one pair of them. When they arrived and I tried them on, it was like Cinderella's glass shoes in the fairy tale. They were fantastic comfortable, so I ordered the other two pairs as well. I love them!
