In 1993, Asics celebrated the launch of the Gel Kayano series, christened with the name of its designer Toshikazu Kayano. The latter was guided by his own needs and thus designed a shoe that could be used both for jogging and indoor training. Inspired by the stability of beetle exoskeletons, Kayano wanted to apply this concept to footwear. Combining this with a boot construction and using what were, at the time, the most advanced materials, guaranteed maximum functionality. Kayano's idea for the Gel-Kayano 2, which followed in 1995, also came from nature - here the praying mantis provided the inspiration. Since then, Asics has continued to develop the Gel-Kayano range every year, and it has enjoyed great popularity ever since. In 2020, Asics therefore already launched the 27th version! With the Gel-Kayano 13, Toshikazu Kayano ended his work on the Gel-Kayano series and handed over the responsibility to new designers. Kayano couldn't imagine his shoes off the running track at the time, yet he is flattered that the retros of his running shoe line have now firmly established themselves in the lifestyle segment. Collaborations with sneaker stores and streetwear brands also enjoy great popularity. In the meantime, Asics has also expanded the Gel-Kayano range with new interpretations such as the Gel-Kayano Trainer Evo or the Gel-Kayano 5 360. Based on the classic designs, these are further developed with the latest technologies. The Gel-Kayano 14, the first "non-Toshikazu" Kayano, represents a milestone in the history of the Gel-Kayano range. The new edition retains the midsole equipment and GEL cushioning technology of the original. Slight adjustments have been made to the fit. Asics hits the spirit of today with this release. The layered leather and mesh construction is typical of the popular Millennial runners.

As someone who has been using Asics Kayano running shoes for at least 20 years putting on my new pair of 14RE's was like meeting an old friend. Whilst the latest Kayano's no doubt pack in a lot of the latest tech, I have to confess to finding them less comfortable/supportive/well made than previous models. The last pair of Kayano's that used the original forefoot construction as far as I am aware were the Kayano 21....which I still use for Gym work almost every week..they just won't die. Many pairs of later Kayano's have fallen to bits since I bought my 21's. The 14RE's not only feel fantastic but look amazing IMHO...in fact I was so impressed with them that I went and bought another pair of standard 14's, which may not look quite as cool as the RE's but they feel ... MoreAs someone who has been using Asics Kayano running shoes for at least 20 years putting on my new pair of 14RE's was like meeting an old friend. Although these shoes are sold as 'Sportstyle' shoes I would suggest that they are a better motion control shoe than any of the recent Kayano's that I've bought, as the older style of forefoot construction holds your foot in place far better than the current mesh technology. The shoes also feel 'premium' and make my Kayano 27's & 28's look (and feel) like cheap 'knock offs'. I would recommend these shoes to anyone seeking a quality running shoe...the looks are just a bonus! Can I implore Asics to move back to this construction type for the Kayano or continue to produce 'retro' style Kayano's...my old 21's can't last forever...I'll have the re-issue in green and black please!! :-)

These shoes are Amazing! They feel as good as they look!
Great looking shoe, however I felt they ran a 1/2 size small. Returned them for a larger size.
Very comfortable shoes! They look really good and feels like you are not wearing anything
I like how these runners feels on my feet , they look good too. I really thank they going to last me a long time like 2 previous ones.
Very comfortable shoe, very good looking. I’m wearing it the past few days and already received an insane amount of compliments
Very well balanced and lightweight would definitely recommend
These are the first pair of Asics that I ever purchased and I'm extremely pleased. Although I'm a runner I wear these as a casual wardrobe shoe. Exceptional comfort but attentive to sartorial detail. The putty/habanero color scheme is understated yet bold.
The tongue sits up higher on your ankle than previous models, but otherwise same fit & feel.
