After a Few Runs, it is the same Kayano you know

After reading the reviews, I still took a chance and ordered this year's Gel-Kayano.I have run 4 marathons and about 35 half marathons, plus a bunch of 5 and 10k's with my family. This has been my shoe for about 15 years, so I was reluctant to change even after the bad reviews. On the first couple of runs, I didn't feel great as the shoe seemed a bit stiff. I felt worried that I was going to have to find an entirely new shoe, but after that, the shoes loosened up and they work well. I am training for a half marathon in Sept. & running about 25 miles a week right now and plan to increase the miles in the coming months and I feel confident these will get me through. I used to buy my new pair of Kayanos exclusively before a race (the ones I trained in being used up!) and take them out of the box just before the race. As of now, I will probably buy new ones a few weeks before the race to break them in. I wear a size 7 shoe, but always size up for running, I buy 8's for half-marathon training, and I will go up to 8.5 if I am training for a marathon. Most people know that your feet swell when you run, so they have to be kind of loose when you first head out the door. As other reviewers have stated, this model does feel a bit snug for being a whole size up, but it isn't the shoe bed that is snug, it is the top of the foot, just don't tie them as tightly as you normally would. Overall, I am glad I kept the faith and stuck with my favorite shoe, it is a bit different, but still the same quality I have relied on for years.

This is my 4th pair of Kayano’s… they certainly are very suppportive, recommended by my Podiatrist as I have orthotics to support arches that roll inwards. They only last 9-12mths but then I exercise daily in the whole. This time I am trying to keep an older pair for outdoor walking and my new pair for gym work and indoors to try and get more longevity. Perhaps having two pairs is the answer. I have noticed that the material around the ankle tends to fray and inside the heel van wear away, not really sure why? But I continue to purchase them as they provide comfortable and supportive cushioning and they look great.

Narrow, toe crinkles, hope they last!
15 August 2022

The regular width of these run narrow, so although wider than those, these may be more narrow than the typical wide shoe, if that makes sense. I have moderately wide feet, but I've never had to buy wide shoes in my life, even in all my many past Asics, even multiple past Gel Kayanos. For me, moving to the wide width in my usual size made the right fit. These shoes, at least in this color, tend to do a weird crinkle thing in the material near the toe which is unfortunate for such an expensive, high level shoe. Overall, they seem comfy enough. I hope they last and do not get all torn up in the lining around the heel/achilles like every single past Gel Kayano I've had before.

I purchased 3 pair of ASICS gel-kayano 27 a few weeks ago. They don’t all fit the same. They are all size 7. The pair that fits my foot comfortably and prevents my pronation is the “Mako blue/Hot pink” pair. The box says it is made in Indonisia. My heel is comfortably seated and when I walk or run my foot is guided in the proper movement. The other pair is the “French blue/Champagne” pair. It is tighter in the toe area and squishes the toes together, not enough room, the heel area feels narrower and my foot does not sit comfortably - I can only wear them for 2 hours max in the house and then need to take them off. The front of my toes is also squishing the toes together. When you email them you receive an automatic reply that they are making some system changes and someone will eventually look at my inquiry. How can the same shoes in 3 different colours fit so differently. No more ASICS for me. Now I need to research this pronation issue all over again. The third pair is the

Not what I expected.

I am so sorry I bought these shoes. I have had many ASICS shoes including my last pair. I have never been disappointed. I was helped by a salesman trying to make sure I got what I needed the shoes for. I explained to him my needs and he showed me these ASICS telling me this were the shoes I needed. I wanted them for doing Step Aerobics and Strength Training. Salesman said these ASICS are what the National Women’s Soccer team wears. Because Step Aerobics has lateral movement he said these shoes would be perfect. I have worked out in them now for almost a month and my feet are hurting so badly. They are cut down on the inside of my ankles which starts to rub and hurt during my workout. There is no cushion for my soles. They tend to stick on the step! My feet are worse off than before I bought them. I want to return them but wearing them just inside to workout I have some black from my rubber mat on the bottoms and don’t think Lady Foot Locker will exchange them. I am upset because I listened to the salesman who didn’t know what he was talking about.

Relief finally from Flat feet & Plantar fasciitis
9 August 2021

I was only diagnosed with flat feet in the last 2-3 years but I have dealt with severe pain in my heel since the last 5-6 years. I also did not realize that I have severe over-pronation till I took the quiz on asics.com.My brother recommended the Gel-Kayano range as he too suffers from flat feet. I cannot tell you what a relief it is to be able to stand and walk for extended time periods without any lingering after pains. The best stress test is obviously Vegas as you have to walk a lot and we then went on a few hikes. I can comfortably recommend these shoes to anyone with flat feet or plantar fasciitis.I would not hesitate to buy these shoes again and have already bought a pair for my sister too.

Super narrow/small
15 August 2021

I’ve worn Kayanos for 20+ years (since X) and usually pick up a few pairs at the NSals. They are great to workout in and ASICS tends to keep making them better most iterations (and finally got past years of terrible color choices!). These 27s, however, are uncharacteristically small and narrow. I‘ve always worn an 8.5B in these, but couldn’t even squeeze my foot fully into it. I ended up going to a 9.5 regular/9-wide based on how narrow the 27s were (and what was left in stock). May be time to move on from Kayanos. Unless you have narrow feet, you may want to size up.

What Happened?
16 June 2022

I wanted to love these since I have the Gel-Kayano 25 and Gel-Kayano 26 sneakers. Why did they change the design? The toe box is long and narrow and the heel pressed up against my achilles tendon and it hurt! Yes, a pair of sneakers did that! I returned the medium width and got a wide width thinking that would do the trick. Nope! The toe box was still too long with extra room above my toes and the back heel was pressing so hard against my achilles tendon! OMG they went back too! I am disappointed. I really love my other Gel-Kayanos. I also have a GT and Gel-Venture 8 with no issues like that. Please Asics go back to the 26 design for the upper shoe! Thank you!

tried and true

Been running in these shoes for at least 15 years with great results. I love a stability shoe, with more cushioning than Nikes provide, and I'm pretty neutral with slide pronation. I tend towards IT band inflammation, and these shoes with good foam rolling have kept me running 30+ miles a week (over 3 days) for years with no issues. I recently ran a 10 mile hilly trail race (and won!) in these shoes so they can handle rocky trails also. Closest shoe I've trusted is the Ghost. I usually swap out the insoles though for a Sofsole Athete for more life/cushioning though, and I dedicate my running shoes for running (not casual walking/work), and rotate between 2+ pair.

Enjoy excellent comfort and advanced support with the GEL-KAYANO 27 running shoe. The redesigned mesh upper helps keep feet cool while the sole is more flexible to help promote a more natural roll through the gait cycle. This process starts in the heel with added flex grooves that isolate the initial impact to force a softer and smoother feeling at footstrike. Additionally, our distance running shoe is complemented with a wider fit for runners who require more width in their footwear. At midstance, the foot should stop pronating and re-supinate for an efficient toe-off. This shoe also incorporates DYNAMIC DUOMAX technology to help support the foot and increase stability for runners whose feet roll inward too much (overpronate). The midsole integrates SPACE TRUSSTIC technology, which provides stability and reduces the overall weight to help promote a smoother transition from footstrike to toe-off. This added stability is complemented by deeper forefoot flex grooves that create a smoother roll through toe-off, allowing the shoe to move more naturally with the foot.Lastly, a large section of reflective materials in the rearfoot helps keep runners visible when running in low-light conditions. The GEL-KAYANO 27 (Wide) model is an excellent choice for both competitive and non-competitive runners looking for an everyday trainer that combines comfort with support.
