A Superb Incredible Comfortable Sensible runner

Have highly recommended these runners to others who over pronate. For those who don’t know if they have a neutral gait or over pronate, it’s a great idea to get checked (most sports stores have machines for this) and then wear the right runner for you because it will help towards your joints staying healthier for longer. For two years in a row I bought the Gel-Kayano 27, which instantly cleared calluses and was easily the best shoe I ever wore. So earlier this year when I saw that they were out of stock of my size (and continue to be months later), I figured I would be safe to buy the Gel-Kayano 28 in the same size. What monumental difference could there be in a shoe by the exact same maker in the exact same size, in the same series of shoe? Apparently a big one, because after 10 minutes of wearing them I get a searing pain all down the left side of my left foot, and because I waited too long to try them out (my previous pair still had a little life left in them), I'm past warranty. And as the good pair continues to be out of stock, I guess I need to look elsewhere for shoes now.

I’m a fan of the Kayano line. Picked up a pair while on holiday travel about 5 years ago and had finally found the perfect sneaker, however, it appears that the last three pair that both my wife and I tried on may have us in search of a different sneaker mfg. It can’t be a coincidence that we both are finding the fit to be too snug, especially around the arch area. Plenty of reviews state similar issues. Maybe there was a change in factory or QC? We are now looking around for the older series. We’ll try ASICS again when the Kayano 30 series. Hopefully they correct this issue.

GEL-KAYANO 28 - critical opinion
25 April 2023

Used to have older version of Kayanos (bought around 2012-2013), loved them! Lasted 10 years but recently outer developed few rips and I foolishly decided to replace with newer version. Now I wish I had the old ones patched up. ( BTW I Managed to re-glue the sole of my SO older Kayanos and she is still using them and prefers over any newer shoes!)The sole of my old Kayano was undestructable while the shoe provided great support and stability. Overall, best shoes I have ever owned! Should have bought 2 pairs. My new Kayano's (28) seem lighter and not so durable. They too provide good stability and cushioning, however, when fully laced up, there is space between eylets and the tounge of the shoe, where my foot is uncovered and unprotected. I have to double check that the tounge is as flat as possible to cover my foot.I bought exactly the same size and width as the last time, yet its upper is completely different. How come there is space between upper and the tounge? Pics taken without socks so not as visible as when with socks. They also feel like designed to last one season. I only bought them about a month ago, and to me they already look beat up (after 6 x 2 hour outside walking sessions), while GEL-CUMULUS 23 G-TX (4months), GEL-KAYANO 25 OBI (2years4months), Trabuco Max (1 year) and GEL-QUANTUM INFINITY(3yr4months) all look like new.I would return them if I could and go for non-goretex Cumulus instead, the sole feels indestructable and my foot is properly protected in my Cumulus-G-TX's, however, these are too worm on hot days.Altogether I have 7 pairs of (casual & training) shoes, various Asics (6) and one pair of indestructible trail running Salomons, and I feel like I will be looking elsewhere for my next trainers. I will not be paying for so poorly designed yet highly priced product.Feels like overengineered or, worst, sales/data analysis people got to determine durability and quality on new models.Asics, durability was your strong point, without it, you will not be worth the price.

Heels feel like they are falling out; rude and inc
24 April 2023

Heels feel like they are falling out; rude and incompetent Asics sales info telephone agents who told me to look up width in centimetre info myself. Asics stores can't tell me the width in cm either on the phone. So I had to return so many sizes.I had very good experience with Kayano in the past, but this version of Kayano was completely uncomfortable. The width is so narrow that I had to buy 3cm longer than my true length, to try again. The shoes feel not cushioned in general, and the heels felt like they were falling out of the shoes.

Injury free with GEL-KAYANO!
8 August 2022

This is my third pair of GEL-KAYANO and I'm very happy with the performance of these wonderful shoes. They have helped me successfully recover from plantar fasciitis and have improved my overall running performance. After many years struggling with running injuries using other brand and models, I am now completely injury free and I'm convinced that my choice to start using GEL-KAYANO plays a big part in this. They are very stable and helps with my pronation of my left leg, at the same time they have excellent cushioning which I think mitigates impact in my hip and have alleviated the hip pain I have been suffering from for over 15 years. Being injury free and able to go for runs regularly over a long period of time I have improved my average speed from around 6:00 ... MoreThis is my third pair of GEL-KAYANO and I'm very happy with the performance of these wonderful shoes. Also I’m now able to run longer distances from being limited to 5 km to now covering a distance of 20 km without any problems. These shoes cost a bit more than other models, but they are worth every penny. For me injury free running is priceless!

Kayano 28
17 October 2023

I've used Kayano for many years and swear for them. However, when I bought this model the first time and did my first run on them, I got a really bad fascitis... Maybe it was just coincidence. Nontheless, I found them on the bulky side compared to previous models, so I bought the MK model as it's a bit lighter. I don't use this model for running, but for everyday walking as it has a casual look and still provide great support. This is acutally my second pair as the firs one is worn out.

Marathon training

Outsole not appropriate for cross-training anymore
2 June 2023

My first pair of Gel Kayanos was probably the 14. I’ve been buying new pairs every 1.5 years since for running, weight lifting and cross-training, including for Cross-Fit the past 5 years. What I found out the hard way with the 28s, is that the outsole is MUCH softer than previous versions, including the 27s, which I own. After two days at the CrossFit gym, I already had a tear in the outsole. It wasn’t until a couple weeks later that I realized it was from most likely from rope climbs. Thankfully, ASICS Customer Service didn’t really care that I was a long time customer and was quick to deny my warranty claim. Oh, and the 27s withstood multiple workouts with rope climbs and took it like a champ. Unhappy customer
27 November 2022

Have had two pairs of 28s prior to this pair and they were great shoes. Great stability and enjoyed the bouncy and softCushion they provided. For some reason this particular pair had zero bounce or softness and actually caused me to develop knee pain. I contacted customer service to see if i could get a replacement and did nothing more than read to me the return policy and could have cared less if i was satisfied with my purchase. Asics is a multi-million dollar global company and could try to make things right with me. I ran in the shoes maybe 5-6 times so i wasn't trying to take advantage of anyone- my shoes were truly uncomfortable. I am not happy and will go back to Saucony.
