I've had Kayanos for over a decade and these are a big improvement over some models. Fit was great, and the wider toe box on the 31s is a nice change over what was becoming a narrower trend. The ankle sock/band was also better than past years with a softer and snugger feel/fit.The changes in the shoe in the midsole were a positive. I would have concerns with long term durability based on a lot of exposed soft foam but first feel was ok.Two areas I was less thrilled with: this much foam in the midsole and outer sole left me feeling a little "floaty" feeling when using my orthotics. It's a high sole to begin with, almost Hoka-like, and while it was not uncomfortable it took some getting used to.The other was the lacing across the top of my foot. My husband wears these shoes on a daily basis once he's home from work - errands and walking, biking working out and general exercise, except for hiking more challenging terrain. These are his "go to" shoes. They are comfortable and go many miles. He just switched to 2 new pairs so he can rotate his shoes and extend the life of both.

The upper on these seem to "hug" my feet just right. The base is super stable and cushiony without being mushy. I also am using the Brooks Ghost Max 2 which I like but I prefer the Asics more. Color scheme is really sharp and currently my favorite shoe.

I was specifically looking for a black/black shoe for refereeing youth football. I have ran in Kayano's for decades. I have always kept it in my running shoe rotation for all of my marathon and ultra training. With lesser miles under my belt over the past 6 months, I have felt the need to go back to a support shoe for many of my other activities. This Kayano 31 looks sharp and feels a bit lighter than some of its predecessors. I'm absolutely satisfied.
Use these shoes for walking. Extremely comfortable and stable. Great looking, too. Best of numerous Kayanos I have worn so far. Highly recommended for runners and walkers who need stability in their shoes.
I had to return these shoes as they were too narrow for my foot. I have been wearing Asics for over 35 years and these Kayanos are not sized as are all the other ones I have worn over the years. I was afraid that buying the wider size "E" would be a risk that they wouldn't fit properly.
I have been wearing Asics since I first ran the NY marathon in 1986 and started wearing the Gel Kayano in 2002 when I started doing Triathlons. I have tried other shoes here and there and ALWAYS come back to the Asics Gel Kayano. The two things I love the most about this version is the EXTEME comfort of the sole with the way it guides my foot without the need for orthotics and the rim around the opening of the shoe that makes for a very comfortable and snug fit.
I have been using kayanos for the last 15 years and this is the best model yet. They do feel a little bit more cushion than the previous models, but definitely fantastic stability. They are the type of shoe I can't wait to start running in every day
Cannot run because of hip surgery, but using Elliptical machine. After the first time using the new shoes for 65 minutes, my feet were a little sore, even though they were comfortable for walking, although they do squeak. I did break in the shoes by walking around for two weeks first.
I only run 3 or 4 miles a day. ( I'm 82) I have the 29 and 30 Kayano and they seem more cushioned and roomier than the 31. I don't know why, they should be the same. I wear 4E and there are few choices available now that Hoka quit making them. The Kayano is definitely a good shoe. They do come in a variety of colors but Road Runner seems to think people with wide feet only wear black or grey even though they are made in all colors by the company. Obviously not a deal breaker but still....
