ASICS shoes just got smaller!

I have been buying ASCICS shoes for years now, 9.5 extra wide. They have always fit like a glove, and have been the most comfortable shoes I have ever tried. I tried recently to buy a new model the patriot 13 wide. I could barely get my foot in. I returned them for a Gel Contend-7 9.4 4E. Same problem. I returned them and tried half a size larger10.0 4E. Still too tight around the toes. I found that if you remove the foam insoles that you can get it to fit, but then the bottom of the foot doesn't feel comfortable. I will now have to look for a new brand of shoes that fit. I guess ASICS doesnt want return customers anymore...

I've been using them for marathon training. Done over 400kms and still going strong. They're great for easy and recovery runs. Not fast by any means but they're nicely padded, comfortable and built to last. I've had this pair for over 4 years. Had a break from running, came back and they're still all good. Did 24km today and they held up great. Might even buy a new pair and run my marathon in them. They're probably not the best shoe ever but for the price, these are the best thing I can find.

If this change is not rectified, I will have to start looking for a different shoe design or a different shoe brand.I am looking now to purchase the old sytle Contend 5 while I can still find them online.

GEL-CONTEND 8 (4E EXTRA WIDE)
20 February 2023

I bought a pair of these about 2 weeks ago and couldn't believe how quickly they arrived but more importantly how comfortable they were. They felt so good and the price was really good value so I bought a second pair. I previously had bought Asics and found them to be very durable but I had bought Standard sizing rather than the extra wide I really should have been wearing. At the time I didn't realise that was my correct size. Despite that they very very had wearing and long lasting.. Now that I know my correct size I look forward to great usage out of these shoes. I am so impressed I have just bought some Asic shoes for walking as well, so probably won't need any more shoes for quite some time. Great products and free postage and speedy delivery, you can't go ... MoreI bought a pair of these about 2 weeks ago and couldn't believe how quickly they arrived but more importantly how comfortable they were. Gel contender 7
3 December 2022

Having been wearing a pair of ASICS for some time as an everyday shoe/trainer, it made sense to purchase a pair for running in place of my Brooks. Gel contender 7 looked good and had good reviews in many publications. After purchasing, the shoes were delivered quickly and efficiently. On arrival when trying on, the left shoe fit well, very comfortable. The right shoe felt different, not so comfortable, when walking the left shoe was very comfortable but the right shoe rubbed the heel and felt as if the ball of the foot did not fit the insert. When running the same was found and gave blisters. Hopefully in a short timeframe the right shoe will become comfortable.

I recommend the shoe…BUT…
11 September 2022

I usually wear 9 men shoe size but I read the reviews before I ordered the shoe and the majority recommended a one size over your normal wear; so I did order 91/2 instead of my normal 9… Surprisingly; even 91/2 size wasn’t big enough for me and the Wide Width they claim is NOT there !!!!!! The ONLY positive thing about this shoe is the comfort but sizing is all out of wack !!!! They most definitely dropped the ball on this particular shoe. if you are still interested in this shoe; I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU ORDER A WHOLE SIZE OVER YOUR NORMAL SIZE; that’s if you wear size 9 men ; I recommend you order size 10….Still at this PRICE; the shoe is well worth it but be careful with the size…Best of Luck !!!

Normally, you get what you pay for...
22 November 2022

I was skeptical buying the budget line of ASICS shoes. I have recently been racking up significantly more kms than normal, and my legs have been complaining. Generally, this means I need new shoes and, since my dollars are tight right now and I have been nothing but satisfied with ASICS shoes, I took a chance. My last shoes gave me 900 km before my legs started to hurt (more than I should have probably gone without a tread change), so I was hoping the next pair could do the same.I haven't reached 900 km yet, but so far I am wildly impressed. The shoes feel sturdy, they're relatively light weight, and they are really comfortable. I live near the arctic circle and run through the winter, and I have not needed to change anything about these. They have a robust tread ... MoreI was skeptical buying the budget line of ASICS shoes. The shoes feel sturdy, they're relatively light weight, and they are really comfortable. I live near the arctic circle and run through the winter, and I have not needed to change anything about these. They have a robust tread that grips the paths I'm running (even with the addition of some snow and ice). They are padded enough that the wind doesn't chill my tootsies, but breathable enough that I'm not stoking a toe-sauna whenever I run in hot weather. They aren't much to look at, but that doesn't bother me at all. What would be the point of having slick looking shoes when the rest of you is covered in snot, sweat, or both?I've been skeptical about pinching pennies when buying shoes because, as the adage goes, you get what you pay for. In the case of the GEL-CONTEND 7s, you get what you pay for several times over! I highly recommend for anyone looking to buy a decent pair of road runners for a reasonable price.

Solid value daily running shoes
29 November 2022

Good value for the price point for a solid basic running shoe. More comfortable than expected, and gave me a very good impression of Asics. (My preferred brand is Saucony. Recovering New Balance customer, never again.)Good cushioning, good arch support, stable. Really good fit for my slightly wider than average feet. Toes don't feel squished.Minus 1 star only because this doesn't compare to my Saucony Ride's. But for the price, super solid.

Super durable & awesome extra-wide comfort
15 May 2022

I'm a big guy with flippers for feet, and it's very hard to find comfortable shoes. I normally have to wait for shoes to stretch, or be plagued by that nagging, uncomfortable tightness around middle of the foot that just makes them a nightmare for all day wear. The Gel Contend 4E are a really well made shoe with the added benefit of an extra-wide fitment that totally eliminates that discomfort. They are super comfortable straight out of the box, and I am not aware of any tightness, no matter how long I wear them for. I'm hard on my shoes, and work on my feet for much of the day, but these just keep going. The shoes are very tough, offer excellent grip and stability, and just keep going. I replace them periodically simply because I get them so dirty through my work ... MoreI'm a big guy with flippers for feet, and it's very hard to find comfortable shoes. But I don't waste time trying anything different, and just order another pair of the ASICS. I think I'm on my 4th pair now. At the risk of sounding like an evangelist, if you have wide feet and know the discomfort I'm talking about, then the Contends are a sensational option. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

Working well for my fussy feet
15 December 2021

My old ASICS are about 10 yrs old. With some superglue and new insoles they’ve been warriors all these yrs. My second pair of ASICS really, my first pair are my yard work shoes. Pretty much only wear these at the gym for workouts so they’ve never seen the pavement. However with age some sole sections are sort of glazed over and they are a little slippery on the hardwood floors, so time to replace. So I turned back to ASICS. Overall I’ve found they offer a somewhat wide toe box area. My foot is normally a D width but even in ASICS I go for the extra wide to be sure my toes have the space they need due to arthritic big toes. Got 4E and they are not excessively wide in my heel or mid foot, while my toes do not feel cramped like too many normal shoes that never fit me ... MoreMy old ASICS are about 10 yrs old. These look a bit narrow in the toe area but they feel ok. Reasonable cushioning and comfortable fit for my cardio workouts. I don’t run due to toes problems but I do a lot of indoor power walking, step, cardio kickboxing and similar. These shoes seem decent and should last me quite some time. I generally workout about 1 hr per day normally 5-6 days per wk, so not a heavy user. For my needs these are decent. At the half off pricing, it was a great deal.
