The no tongue sock liner takes some time getting used to. Otherwise they are comfortable. Tractions seems a bit slippery in the wet, but haven't properly tested that. Have heel slippage when wearing non cotton socks, such as poly/nylon for moisture wicking. feet slide forwards, unable to keep your heel locked in. But is mostly solved with cotton socks. Asics claim the shoes are breathable and there are small air holes in the fabric. However, I have had to punch them through using a small instrument to open them up; most of these little holes were not drilled properly in the production process. My Innov-8 Parkclaw trai l running shoes have a much more breathable mesh if that's what you're looking for. The feel of the Asics is also too spongey for my taste and I prefer something a lot firmer. I have switched to a different insole to stiffen them up. In terms of size, there are no problems with these Asics Gel Kayanos and there is plenty of room and width at the front end. Here, they score much more highly than products which skimp on internal space, such as Adidas.

With every recent iteration, the Kayano has gotten worse and worse. It's so sad. :-( I ran in them for years and LOVED them until about version 25 or 26, and they have gone down hill ever since. Had these for 14 months, use is casual walking not running. User weight 130kg, Comfortable to wear. Sock liner now split under right ankle and hard white plastic band is cheese grating under the ankle. EVA foam about 80% dead, sole tread about 15% left. mesh and glue line in good order. Average rating as these haven't been used on heavy terrain or running just casual walk arounds 5 days a week so durability for $300 is average at best. The Brooks Beast was considerably superior in comfort and durability for a similar price. I have a range of runners across Asics, Brooks, NB and feel bang for buck? this model should be priced around NZD180.00. Disappointing for a flagship model.
