A Superb Incredible Comfortable Sensible runner

I admit I was skeptical when I opened the box and saw these shoes lacked a tongue and instead used an elastic opening for the foot. More than once a shoe company has taken a perfectly functioning shoe and tried to modify it to "improve" performance, resulting in disappointment.I took them out for some easy medium runs (8 to 10k) and found no issues with fit and no stress on the usual suspects: knees...achilles etc. So to really test them I went out last weekend and did a back to back 27k Sat. and Sun. with only the usual fatigued muscles but no stressed tissue. The combination of the elastic upper with lacing really keeps the feet snug and stable in the shoe. Another nice feature is Asics makes the shoe pre rolled with the toes curved up so you don't have to break ... MoreI admit I was skeptical when I opened the box and saw these shoes lacked a tongue and instead used an elastic opening for the foot. Defective Manufacturing not Honored
14 February 2023

I was gifted a pair Gel-Kayano 28 size 11 for my birthday on 01/25/2023 as my hiking shoes had worn out. I used them approximately a week later on a 4 mile hike and developed a blister on my left heal. I took it as this was a new pair of shoes and needed some wearing in. About 2 weeks later took the same hike and developed a new blister in the same area while wearing the shoes for the 2nd time. I began examining the shoes better and discovered that material was bunching up on the heel and was different than the one on the right heel, which was smooth and padded. Instead of asking the gift giver for a receipt, I looked at Asis website and they indicated that they covered manufacturing defects. Instead of asking the gift giver for a receipt, I looked at Asis website and they indicated that they covered manufacturing defects. Called the company and they sent me over a form to fill out along with a bunch of questions to answer and requesting photos of the damage. Filled the form out and sent the pics and was surprised at the response.Quote: ASICS has reviewed your application for a warranty and determined that your shoes do not meet the criteria for a warranty, as the product has been determined not to have a manufacturing defect. This warranty does not cover any defects due to improper fit, normal wear and tear, damage due to improper use, misuse, improper transportation or storage, failure to follow product instructions, modification or alteration to the product, unauthorized repair, or negligence.ASICS has determined this product is not defective and the damage to the shoe is not a result of, or caused by, the materials used in the manufacturing of the product or an error in the manufacturing process and is a result of either improper fit, normal wear and tear, damage due to improper use, misuse, or negligence. The area on the upper heel of these shoes is a soft, flexible cushioning material that is intended to cushion the back of the heel against the top part of the upper heel structure of the shoes. These shoes are intended to have a tight, non-slipping fit against the heel (a finger should not fit between the foot and the shoe). These shoes are intended to be fully unlaced and loosened before being removed, and are intended to be tightened around a foot rather than being tied before inserting the foot. Can Customer service explain how the above mentioned items could have occurred after one use? This happened after one use, then again after a 2nd use. Improper use? Wear and tear? Fully unlaced? Thought I was getting a quality pair of shoes which failed on the 1st try. Asics now indicates that it was my fault after 1st use?

GEL-KAYANO 28 - critical opinion
25 April 2023

Used to have older version of Kayanos (bought around 2012-2013), loved them! Lasted 10 years but recently outer developed few rips and I foolishly decided to replace with newer version. Now I wish I had the old ones patched up. ( BTW I Managed to re-glue the sole of my SO older Kayanos and she is still using them and prefers over any newer shoes!)The sole of my old Kayano was undestructable while the shoe provided great support and stability. Overall, best shoes I have ever owned! Should have bought 2 pairs. My new Kayano's (28) seem lighter and not so durable. They too provide good stability and cushioning, however, when fully laced up, there is space between eylets and the tounge of the shoe, where my foot is uncovered and unprotected. I have to double check ... MoreUsed to have older version of Kayanos (bought around 2012-2013), loved them! I have to double check that the tounge is as flat as possible to cover my foot.I bought exactly the same size and width as the last time, yet its upper is completely different. How come there is space between upper and the tounge? Pics taken without socks so not as visible as when with socks. They also feel like designed to last one season. I only bought them about a month ago, and to me they already look beat up (after 6 x 2 hour outside walking sessions), while GEL-CUMULUS 23 G-TX (4months), GEL-KAYANO 25 OBI (2years4months), Trabuco Max (1 year) and GEL-QUANTUM INFINITY(3yr4months) all look like new.I would return them if I could and go for non-goretex Cumulus instead, the sole feels indestructable and my foot is properly protected in my Cumulus-G-TX's, however, these are too worm on hot days.Altogether I have 7 pairs of (casual & training) shoes, various Asics (6) and one pair of indestructible trail running Salomons, and I feel like I will be looking elsewhere for my next trainers. I will not be paying for so poorly designed yet highly priced product.Feels like overengineered or, worst, sales/data analysis people got to determine durability and quality on new models.Asics, durability was your strong point, without it, you will not be worth the price.

It does exist! A running shoe for NE OH winters!
22 January 2023

Normally wear men Nimbus size 10 xtra wide for walking and jog mostly roads and some trails. Winter's always a challenge in NE Ohio, running shoes never sufficiently water resist/insulated and boots are heavy and inflexible. Until now. The 'all-winter along' AWL Kayano is the answer i was looking for. Performs like a running show while sufficiently water resistance and insulated. Even in freezing weather can wear mid-cushion socks and feet stay warm and dry. Toggle speed lacing works great too. Flexible stripes are nice touch for those dark early winter evenings when i'm on the roadside. For my wide foot, ordered size 10 1/2, and fit is very good. Have the width i need, and no issue with back of foot sliding out of a larger shoe. I never write reviews, and am not ... MoreNormally wear men Nimbus size 10 xtra wide for walking and jog mostly roads and some trails. It seems ASICS messed up their sizes again
29 April 2023

I remember that around 5-6 years ago ASICS somehow messed up their sizing and fit, and they disappeared from a lot of the good running shoes stores' shelves. They were actually hard to find back then. I switched to other brands, but they finally came back strong and I was happy to come back to ASICS.Now again, I find myself having problems with the sizing and fit, having to use a different size than I use on EVERY brand, including all of my previous ASICS, and having hot spots all around since the normal width isn't normal anymore. They are longer, they are narrower.I have not grown or changed weight. Maybe it is only this model of Kayano MK, which is the first ASICS I have had problems with since the previous meltdown, but is is annoying and frustrating to buy ... MoreI remember that around 5-6 years ago ASICS somehow messed up their sizing and fit, and they disappeared from a lot of the good running shoes stores' shelves. Upgrade from Gel Kayano 26
9 July 2023

Since I bought a pair of Gel Kayano 26 in 2020, I am addicted to the Kayano range. I am over pronation and honestly I will never use any other stability shoes. The Gel Kayano 28 has more padding in the surface area of the shoes. It feels more springy. The shoes have more cushion in the sole and I look taller in them than Kayano 26. The only thing is that the 28 model is not suitable for someone with chubby or wider feet. It is narrower at the front and middle of the shoes due to the heavy padding. The heel area also pushing inward so if you have big ankles they may not be the best. I had needle pain and burning sensation when I run in them when they are new. So please make sure you break the shoes by walking in them for at least a few days before you run a 10k in ... MoreSince I bought a pair of Gel Kayano 26 in 2020, I am addicted to the Kayano range. Wishing for the "good old days"
28 December 2022

The recent Gel Kayanos have not lived up to the reputation and performance of earlier versions, in my opinion. The "guts" of the shoe have been removed resulting in less support provided by the uppers and less durability of the soles. A "printed" design on the upper is just not the same as the multi-layer stitched Asics logo. And neither is the simplified sole composition. I have been a very loyal Gel Kayano user since the very beginning, in the early 90's because they enabled me to return to running & jogging. As a big pronator, the shoes have been a life (knee) -saver for me. I have purchased multiple pairs of every generation of Gel Kayano. I am very excited to hear that Asics is re-launching the Gel Kayano 14.
